The director allowed the actors, particularly Dane Cook, to improvise extensively, often diverging completely from the script. He would sometimes run 20 or more takes, letting the performers do something different every time, before settling on a few of those ideas in order to get pick-ups or close-ups. This made life particularly interesting for the principal and background actors in the scene with Dane, as well as for the prop and sound personnel.
Jason Biggs and Jenny Mollen met on set, and married in April 2008.
On his personal MySpace blog, Dane Cook famously lambasted the movie's official poster for its unoriginal composition and bad photoshopping: "Whoever photoshopped our poster must have done so at taser point with 3 minutes to fulfill their hostage takers deranged obligations [..] The left side of my face seems to be melting off of my skull. I guess I am looking directly into the Ark of the Covenant? [..] It looks like I'm wearing Maybelline Water Shine Diamonds Liquid Lipstick. [..] My character is sporting a very high collar [..] It's going for the 'vampire lurking in the castle basement' vibe. An Olympic pole vaulter would have a tough go clearing that collar. I'm also able to turn my head comfortably 180 degrees, because I was raised in an abandoned barn by a family of owls. [..] It's no secret that I'm more rugged facially due to a drunken visit by the teen acne fairy, but according to this poster I've got perfect porcelain flesh. [And my hair is] actually a close up shot of Tom Selleck's Magnum P.I. mustache they photo-slapped on my noggin'."
Dane Cook's character Tank's real name in the movie is Sherman which is also the name of the main tank used by U.S. armed forces during WW2.
