Usher has officially kicked off the Past Present Future Tour after needing to postpone his first few shows due to an injury.

The 45-year-old singer packed in more than 45 songs into a two-hour set list on opening night on Tuesday (August 20) at Capitol One Arena in Washington, D.C.

Usher told USA Today, “I’m promoting a legacy: past, present and future. I’ve been doing this long enough to celebrate the legacy of my music from the beginning of my career up until an incredible moment that I’m having.”

After more than 23 years, John Cena is preparing to step into the ring for the last time.

During a surprise appearance at Saturday’s Money in the Bank in Toronto, Canada, the 16-time world champion wrestler announced he’s retiring from the WWE following WrestleMania 2025.

Although Cena has been known to display a towel that reads “never give up” over the years, this time he came out with one that read, “The last time is now.”

“Why am I here? Tonight, I officially announce my retirement from the WWE,” he said to shocked gasps from the audience.

Later in his speech, Cena revealed he plans to stay on to take part in Monday Night Raw as it makes the unprecedented move to Netflix in January 2025.

Netflix is ready to tee off with Will Ferrell.

In his first scripted TV comedy series, Ferrell will star in a scripted comedy series titled Golf. The streamer has picked up 10 episodes of the series, which is co-created by Ferrell, Ramy Youssef — who will also have an onscreen role — and Josh Rabinowitz (Babes, Ramy, The Carmichael Show).

In Golf, Ferrell will play a fictional golf legend. Details on Youssef’s part are being kept under wraps though sources say the show isn’t a two-hander. (Netflix also stresses that Golf should be capitalized, though it’s unclear if it’s an acronym.)

There’s a “hungry little flea” ready to infect your “warm body,” a predator on the street turning aggression into an evil blues promise, a sink that runs red, a head that won’t stop banging, a dream that ends in hell. “I feel like graffiti on a urinal,” she sings. St. Vincent rolled out “Big Time Nothing” ahead of the release of her first self-produced record and seventh album, All Born Screaming, due Friday.

“Don’t blink/Don’t wait/Don’t walk/You’re late/Don’t fall from grace, behave/ Don’t trip, sashay,” St. Vincent sings against a fever-dream beat, before declaring, “I look inside your eyes” and counting down to the next verse. “Don’t show/Don’t flake/Go hard, debase/Don’t make a dishonest mistake/Don’t be so sure I need a cure.

St. Vincent has mapped out a 2024 North American tour in support of her forthcoming seventh album, All Born Screaming. Additionally, she’s revealed the latest single from the album with “Flea.”

The tour kicks off with a pair of lone California dates in late May, and continues in Bend, Oregon on August 8th. The musician will then hit cities like Vancouver, Los Angeles, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., and Toronto, finishing the tour with a date in St. Paul, Minnesota on September 20th. Annie Clark — aka St. Vincent — has officially announced her seventh studio album, All Born Screaming, and shared its lead single, “Broken Man.”

Due on April 26th via Virgin Music Group, All Born Screaming marks Clark’s first self-produced album, presenting her “post-plague” vision of emotional exploration. Speaking about the record’s sound, Clark said in a statement: “There are some places, emotionally, that you can only get to by taking the long walk into the woods alone — to find out what your heart is really saying. It sounds real because it is real.”

St. Vincent has opened up about her follow-up to 2021’s Daddy’s Home, and it sure sounds interesting. In a new interview with Mojo magazine, the artist born Annie Clark said her new album is “darker and harder” than her most recent project and described its sound as “urgent and psychotic.”

Clark self-produced the album and recorded it at her own Compound Fracture studio in LA, New York’s Electric Lady, and Steve Albini’s Electrical Audio in Chicago. “I needed to go deeper in finding my own sonic vocabulary,” she said about the experience. “I like to think of [the record] as post-plague pop, it’s a lot about heaven and hell — the metaphorical kinds. Which is appropriate, because sitting alone in a studio for that many hours I would say is a version of hell.”

She added that the album is filled with “lots of guitars” alongside ’70s and ’80s analog synths.

The spotlight will be on Brooke Shields this week following the broadcast premiere of her Hulu documentary Pretty Baby.

The doc is airing on ABC on Monday night (January 8) as a three-hour special, nine months after it debuted on the streaming service.

Veteran Hollywood exec Katie Martin Kelley is joining Warner Bros.’ movie studio as executive vp of communications, Warner Bros. Discovery announced Wednesday.

Her arrival at the studio’s Burbank lot isn’t a total surprise, considering she worked closely with Warner Bros. Picture Group co-chairs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy when the duo ran MGM.

In her new role, Martin Kelley will lead media relations and corporate communications for the film group, including Warner Bros. Pictures, New Line Cinema and the newly rebranded Warner Bros. Pictures Animation. She’ll report to De Luca and Abdy.

In a twinned move, Wbd announced earlier on Thursday that Candice McDonough has been appointed to the newly-created role of executive vp of publicity and communications for DC Studios, the arm run by co-chairmen and co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran.

The directing duo known as Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert) are two of the most exciting voices working in cinema today. Their first, "Swiss Army Man," was promoted as "the Daniel Radcliffe farting corpse movie," but turned out to be one of the most moving examinations of humanity and why life is worth living even when things feel absolutely hopeless. Like a too-generous parent on Christmas morning, “Spirited” keeps doling out the shiny presents long after the recipients are sated. But if there’s a genre that begs to be maximalist, it’s a musical comedy with its roots in Charles Dickens; it’s not so much whether or not you like what “Spirited” has to offer but how much of it you can take in one sitting.

The whole “one sitting” concept may be an outdated one, since this is a film that’s going to live its life (and its Christmases Yet to Come) on Apple TV+, where there’s always a pause button. But viewers who can see “Spirited” projected on the big screen absolutely should, if only to fully appreciate the splashy (sometimes in a literal sense) choreography from Chloe Arnold, one of the film’s true MVPs.

At this point it is almost impossible to count the number of remakes, ripoffs, variations, takeoffs and general thievery on the part of filmmakers riffing on Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol. The latest imitation, Spirited, isn’t even the only new version to debut this season; I can count at least two others still waiting for liftoff as the yuletide tidings continue in 2022. But this one has some real firepower in terms of who is involved with the Apple TV+ original film, chief among them stars Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell, who deliver a take most closely aligned with Bill Murray’s modern 1988 Scrooged, a homage even noted in the rat-a-tat snarky script here by John Morris and Sean Anders (Daddy’s Home), the latter who also directed.

Above all this is a lively musical with a whole slew of new tunes featuring some of the blessedly most cynical lyrics...

Though the sappy message in “Spirited” preaches that people can change, this spiffy musical comedy sure feels like an homage to tried-and-true Hollywood classics. , like a loud sweater or syrupy fireside cocoa. Proudly wearing its adaptation status on its sleeve, “Spirited” turns Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” into a contemporary feel-good comedy — with flashy musical numbers to boot.

Reprising some of the shenanigans of his lovable “Elf” character, reliable funnyman Will Ferrell plays a jovial ghost of Christmas present opposite a dastardly Ryan Reynolds as a modern day Scrooge. Bolstered by a stellar ensemble, both Ferrell and Reynolds make surprisingly charming showmen, impressing with confident crooning — and even some light choreo. It’s refreshing to see two stars who could have easily phoned it in for the rest of their careers push themselves to try new things.

Even more thrilling, they really can sing!

Will Ferrell’s signature comedy style is halfway between obnoxious and endearing, a naïve man-child whose excitable energy is matched by his fearless disregard for dignity. Anyone who’s been missing that persona should find something to enjoy in Spirited, Ferrell’s bid to headline another holiday perennial to sit alongside Elf. His delivery remains inspired and his chemistry with Ryan Reynolds, playing the smarmy Scrooge figure in this busy 21st-century riff on A Christmas Carol, has lots of fizz, even if a supposed romance with Octavia Spencer’s character doesn’t. But is the movie any good?

That will depend on how closely you identify with the delicious disdain of Patrick Page as the chain-rattling Jacob Marley, upholder of the Dickensian tradition, who rolls his eyes and begs for a reprieve almost every time someone bursts into song. Because, yes, it’s a musical.
