Nearly three years have gone by since we heard that Ben McKenzie (Gotham) and Bojana Novakovic (Beyond Skyline) were the stars of the Japanese horror film Bloat, which had already started filming at that time. Now, it looks like Bloat might finally be almost ready to make its way out into the world, as the Motion Picture Association ratings board has announced that they’ve given the film an R rating for language and some violent content. The film will be released by Lionsgate, but they haven’t set a release date for it yet.
Written and directed by Tokyo-based filmmaker Pablo Absento, Bloat is a co-production between Timur Bekmambetov‘s company Bazelevs, the Russian streaming service Okko, French production and sales company Pulsar Content, and Japanese production company flag Co., Ltd. Filming took place in New York and Japan. Bloat does indeed use Bekmambetov’s Screenlife filmmaking technique, “in...

It’s been two years since production wrapped on the screenlife J-horror movie Bloat. Now, it appears as though a release date announcement may be imminent as the Lionsgate horror movie has earned an official R-rating.
Bloat has been rated “R” for “language and some violent content,” which sounds like a more ominous, foreboding style of horror.
Ben McKenzie (“Gotham”) and Bojana Novakovic (Beyond Skyline) star.
The film tells of “a military officer (McKenzie) stationed in Turkey while his wife (Novakovic) is vacationing in Japan with their kids. During the stay, their younger son almost drowns in a lake. Soon after the accident, the parents realize that something is wrong with their boy.”
Bloat will also feature Bon Koizumi, great-grandson of the legendary Japanese folklorist and horror story collector Lafcadio Hearn and the director of his museum. Previously released details reveal that the film’s characters will “eventually come to...

It’s been almost two years since we last reported on Steven C. Miller‘s werewolf movie Year 2,starring Frank Grillo. The filmmaker has offered recent updates on social media, teasing that the long wait for action werewolf carnage is nearly over and that it appears to have a new title: Werewolves.
The premise for Werewolves is described as “a supermoon event caused a latent gene to turn everyone exposed to the moonlight into a werewolf for one night. Millions died—and now, the supermoon is back.”
Katrina Law (“NCIS”) stars alongside Grillo as the brilliant geneticist, Dr. Amy Chen, who goes on a dangerous journey with Grillo’s character to saved loved ones, against a ticking clock.
That setup sounds like The Purge: Anarchy but with werewolves, and we’re so in.
Thanks to Miller’s posts on Twitter yesterday and today, we know that the filmmaker has been...

Financial tech operation FilmHedge has closed on 100M in debt financing, Variety has learned.
The Atlanta-based company offers short-term loans for film, television and other media productions — as well as products that track production spending in real-time and automate performance reports for content investors. FilmHedge has helped fund 14 feature productions thus far, including the sci-fi thriller “Beyond Skyline” starring Frank Grillo.
Private credit firm Coromandel Capital provided 50 million, as did another another undisclosed firm earlier this year. FilmHedge’s financial products determine the terms for loan offers using an algorithm, basing its model on the production finance plans and corporate agreements.
Coromandel Capital provides flexible, non-dilutive growth capital via senior secured lines of credit, and term loans to specialty finance and tech companies outside traditional traditional routes like banks.

Based on a screenplay by Nick Saltrese, the film will follow a group of old college friends who reunite on a Caribbean scuba diving trip exploring the wreckage of a WWII battleship and find themselves trapped inside the underwater labyrinth of rusted metal surrounded by great white sharks.
The film will be directed by Liam O’Donnell, who began his career working with Hydraulx VFX on projects including Fox’s “Alien vs. Predator: Requiem” (2007), Marvel’s “Iron Man 2” (2009) and Relativity/Universal’s “Skyline” (2010), which he produced and co-wrote. In 2017, O’Donnell wrote his directorial debut, “Beyond Skyline,” starring Frank Grillo, Bojana Novakovic and Iko Uwais. This… This is how you take a genre or story device and make it feel fresh! Let’s be honest the old re-living the same day over and over till it has a satisfying conclusion is a trope we have seen many many times. Groundhog Day and more recently Happy Death Day are a couple that spring to mind, so when I read the synopsis for Boss Level I did kind of shake my head. However, like I have said so many times, if someone I like is in the movie or it’s a director I’m into then your damn right I’m going to give it a fair shake!

Frank Grillo might not be back but the follow-up to Beyond Skyline has it's own set of ass-kicking prowess in the mix.
Picking up where the sequel left off, Skylines the third movie in the unlikely franchise that keeps on giving, Lindsey Morgan plays Rose, the young girl with alien DNA who has grown at an alarming rate into a badass military leader and fighter. To celebrate the release of Skylines, the third and final part of the Skyline trilogy, we sat down with its eclectic cast and filmmakers to find out all about the thrilling third chapter.
Set several years after Skyline and Beyond Skyline, Skylines sees the remaining soldiers on the invaded Earth take the fight to them, heading to their home planet of Colbalt1 to save us all after those aliens living peacefully soon become hostile due to a deadly virus.
Director Liam O’Donnell tells us of the unique challenges of making a third film – and, yes, talk of Batman, Godfather, and more are discussed – whilst still breaking new ground with the story. While cast members Lindsey Morgan, Alexander Siddig, and Daniel Bernhardt tell us about the thrill of making the film and, despite its vast, sci-fi action nature, there are much deeper messages and themes in it than the audience may expect.

I had initially started this review with a brief history of the place in my heart that I have for the Skyline franchise but you know what? Let me just say that I am a total sci-fi nerd, I love alien invasion film and I especially love a flick that has the balls to have insane ambition and looks to create a wide reaching universe. Skyline has always been that franchise! A franchise that knows exactly what it is and where it wants to be; a franchise that for the budget they have, always pulls out the stops and impresses from start to finish; a franchise that lets be honest doesn’t get the credit it deserves.

Forget The Expendables. The team you want to be on is the one in which Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, Scott Adkins, and more are throwing high-flying fisticuffs. "The life that we had is gone. These guys are here to stay.." A full trailer has debuted for an Australian sci-fi alien invasion thriller titled Occupation, from writer/director Luke Sparke. The film is about a small group of town residents who have to band together after a devastating ground invasion from alien invaders. The big Aussie cast includes Temuera Morrison, Stephany Jacobsen, Dan Ewing, Rhiannon Fish, Zachary Garred, Izzy Stevens, Charles Terrier, Charles Mesure, Felix Williamson, Jacqueline McKenzie, and Bruce Spence. This looks cool, though it seems like standard invasion sci-fi action. Almost a bit like Red Dawn meets Beyond Skyline, if that interests you. Check it out.
