Nearly three years have gone by since we heard that Ben McKenzie (Gotham) and Bojana Novakovic (Beyond Skyline) were the stars of the Japanese horror film Bloat, which had already started filming at that time. Now, it looks like Bloat might finally be almost ready to make its way out into the world, as the Motion Picture Association ratings board has announced that they’ve given the film an R rating for language and some violent content. The film will be released by Lionsgate, but they haven’t set a release date for it yet.

Written and directed by Tokyo-based filmmaker Pablo Absento, Bloat is a co-production between Timur Bekmambetov‘s company Bazelevs, the Russian streaming service Okko, French production and sales company Pulsar Content, and Japanese production company flag Co., Ltd. It’s been two years since production wrapped on the screenlife J-horror movie Bloat. Now, it appears as though a release date announcement may be imminent as the Lionsgate horror movie has earned an official R-rating.

Bloat has been rated “R” for “language and some violent content,” which sounds like a more ominous, foreboding style of horror.

Back in August of 2021, Skyline franchise writer Liam O’Donnell announced that he had just finished writing the script for the fourth entry in the alien invasion Skyline series. At that time, he said he had “no idea how likely this is to get made,” but the project – which was once being called Skyline Radial but has ended up with the title Skyline: Warpath – has since made its way into production. Back in January, the movie secured a US distribution deal with XYZ Films, and now Variety reports that it’s set to receive UK and Irish distribution through Signature Entertainment.

Signature Entertainment has acquired the U.K. and Irish rights to “Skyline: Warpath” the action sci-fi sequel starring Scott Adkins (“John Wick: Chapter 4”) and Iko Uwais (“The Raid” franchise) from Palisades Park Pictures.

Written and directed by Liam O’Donnell (“Beyond Skyline”), the film also stars Yayan Ruhian (“The Raid: Redemption”) and Charlotte Vega (“Wrong Turn”) and was produced by Matthew E. Chausse (“Harvest”) and Evangelo Kioussis (“American Star”), while Peter Choi (“More, More, More”), Arvin Sutedja (“Qodrat”), Danny R. Carmona and Victor Presinal served as executive producers.

Fillipino filmmaker Pedring Lopez is set to direct Ji, an action feature set in Korea and parts of Southeast Asia, with a cast that includes Yayan Ruhian of The Raid and Boy Kills World.

The film will be produced by the Philippines’ Black Ops Studios Asia and Singapore’s Very Tay Media, co-produced by Asia Media Alliance. It marks the second collaboration between Black Ops and Very Tay after upcoming martial arts vampire horror Blood Passage, also directed by Lopez.

U.S. and U.K.-based global sales outfit Palisades Park Pictures has revealed a star-studded slate for Hong Kong’s film rights market FilMart.

John Travolta, Katherine Heigl and Christopher Walken lead romantic comedy “That’s Amore!,” which is in pre-production. Written and directed by “Green Book” writer Nick Vallelonga, the film follows two emotionally damaged people who attempt to date one another, and when their families get involved, comedy ensues.

The producers are Vallelonga (Vallelonga Prods.), Cassian Elwes (Elevated Films), Brenda Emmett and Vince Emmett (American Troubadours), David Polemeni; Tamara Birkemoe and Mark Damon, for Palisades Park Pictures, serve as executive producers.

Director Phillip Noyce has completed action-thriller “Fast Charlie,” starring Pierce Brosnan, Morena Baccarin and James Caan, and adapted from Victor Gischler’s novel “Gun Monkeys” by Richard Wenk (“The Equalizer”).

Brosnan plays Charlie Swift, a hitman who has been working for his aging mob boss, Stan (Caan), for two decades.

It’s been almost two years since we last reported on Steven C. Miller‘s werewolf movie Year 2,starring Frank Grillo. The filmmaker has offered recent updates on social media, teasing that the long wait for action werewolf carnage is nearly over and that it appears to have a new title: Werewolves.

The premise for Werewolves is described as “a supermoon event caused a latent gene to turn everyone exposed to the moonlight into a werewolf for one night. Millions died—and now, the supermoon is back.”

XYZ Films has just scooped up the US distribution rights for ‘Skyline: Warpath.’ This sci-fi action film, packed with martial arts, is a fresh creation from Liam O’Donnell, known for his work on ‘Beyond Skyline.’ The film shines with stars like Iko Uwais from ‘The Raid’ and Scott Adkins of ‘Undisputed’ fame. Joining them are Louis Mandylor, Randall J. Bacon, and Yayan Ruhain.

‘Skyline: Warpath’ is set in the same universe as O’Donnell’s previous work and takes place five years after ‘Beyond Skyline.’ The story revolves around Sua, played by Iko Uwais, leading a resistance against alien invaders. Liam O’Donnell (Beyond Skyline, Skylines) will direct Skyline Radial, the fourth installment in the series, from his own script, with the original producing team of the franchise returning to produce. Released in 2010, the original in the series, Skyline, co-written and produced by O’Donnell, was an international box office success and one of the more profitable films of the year.

O’Donnell went on to write and direct the subsequent two sequels, Beyond Skyline (review) and Skylines, (review) to success overseas.

Skyline Radial will center on the franchise’s beloved main character Rose Corley. When Rose and her crew embark on a daring mission to rescue her father, Mark, from a secret prison, they are confronted with the ultimate power of the universe: an ancient alien race known only as The Radial. The latest film is currently casting, with key cast expected to return. Production is slated to start this year.

Financial tech operation FilmHedge has closed on 100M in debt financing, Variety has learned.

The Atlanta-based company offers short-term loans for film, television and other media productions — as well as products that track production spending in real-time and automate performance reports for content investors. FilmHedge has helped fund 14 feature productions thus far, including the sci-fi thriller “Beyond Skyline” starring Frank Grillo.

Private credit firm Coromandel Capital provided 50 million, as did another another undisclosed firm earlier this year. FilmHedge’s financial products determine the terms for loan offers using an algorithm, basing its model on the production finance plans and corporate agreements.

Coromandel Capital provides flexible, non-dilutive growth capital via senior secured lines of credit, and term loans to specialty finance and tech companies outside traditional traditional routes like banks.

Picking up where the sequel left off, Skylines the third movie in the unlikely franchise that keeps on giving, Lindsey Morgan plays Rose, the young girl with alien DNA who has grown at an alarming rate into a badass military leader and fighter. The film, which was produced by Talk Story Pictures and is being distributed by The Horror Collective, will be released on February 25th, 2020 on VOD and digital platforms.

The film had its world premiere at Los Angeles’ Shriekfest Horror Film Festival, where it won Best Thriller Feature Film and Best Male Performance in a Feature Film (Chase Williamson). The film also recently won the Audience Award for Best Thriller Feature at San Francisco’s Another Hole in the Head Film Festival.

The third film in the wonderfully fun Skyline series is currently in post-production and director Liam O'Donnell has been in a sharing mood lately.

The first poster and still from the film have been revealed and we're excited to see where Liam takes his crazy story from where he left us in Beyond Skyline.

Synopsis:

When a virus threatens to turn the now earth-dwelling friendly alien hybrids against humans, Captain Rose Corley must lead a team of elite mercenaries on a mission to the alien world in order to save what's left of humanity.

Producers earmarking spring 2020 start.

The Exchange launches worldwide sales at Afm next week on Summer Madness starring comedy superstar Anna Faris in a dual role as twins.

Faris, whose credits include Scary Movie, House Bunny, Overboard and current TV hit Mom, will play a broke and foul-mouthed sister to a successful and elegant twin who rallies her dysfunctional family in order to win a cash prize at her conniving mother’s annual gala event.

Faris will serve as producer alongside Kiss Kiss Bang Bang cinematographer Michael Barrett, Emilio Mauro (Beyond Skyline) and James Mottern, who will direct. The producers anticipated a spring 2020 start.

Exclusive: Mike Moh, Dave East, Perry Yung, Alexa Mareka and Taylour Paige are ready to Boogie. The quintet of actors are the latest to join Eddie Huang’s coming-of-age pic at Focus Features which is currently filming in New York City.

The actors round out the cast which includes previously announced newcomer Taylor Takahashi as the titular character as well as co-stars Pamelyn Chee and Jorge Lendeborg Jr..

Chef, TV host and author Eddie Huang has been set to direct and write coming-of-age story “Boogie” for Focus Features.

The project is set in contemporary New York City and follows a Chinese-American basketball phenom who struggles to balance the expectations of his immigrant family with his own dreams of becoming a player for the NBA.

Huang, the son of Taiwanese immigrants, is the author of the autobiographical “Fresh off the Boat: A Memoir,” which was adapted into the ABC television series of the same name. “Fresh Off the Boat” starts its sixth season next month. He most recently created and starred in Viceland’s “Huang’s World.”

Josh Bratman of Immersive Pictures, Josh McLaughlin of Wink Productions and Michael Tadross will produce. Focus Features will distribute the movie domestically, and Universal Pictures International will handle foreign distribution.

Forget The Expendables. The team you want to be on is the one in which Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, Scott Adkins, and more are throwing high-flying fisticuffs. That is certainly the very amusing appeal of Triple Threat, a new VOD and limited release cinematic event that brings some of 21st century cinema’s best martial artists together for an action movie spectacle.

The film is about a small group of town residents who have to band together after a devastating ground invasion from alien invaders. British movie distributor Signature Entertainment, which has released more than 600 titles since launching seven years ago, is set to expand still further following its acquisition by Ffi Holdings. Signature acts as an aggregator for Netflix, Amazon Prime and Sky, as well as other streaming services.

Signature’s recent releases include “Beyond Skyline,” starring Frank Grillo and Iko Uwais, “Jungle,” starring Daniel Radcliffe, and “The Titan,” starring Sam Worthington, Taylor Schilling and Tom Wilkinson. Its upcoming theatrical slate includes David Tennant’s “Bad Samaritan,” the comedy “Ideal Home,” starring Steve Coogan and Paul Rudd, and Jon Hamm’s political thriller “Beirut.”

Welcome back for another week of horror and sci-fi home entertainment releases, readers! January 16th features plenty of intriguing offerings, from cult classics to sequels of cult classics to even a few recent films as well.
