When asked about the series in December 2022, Brigitte Bardot, then 88, claimed she wasn't aware of it and in any case couldn't care less about "dumb biopics". In 2010 she had already stated about a planned American biopic feature film to be directed by Kyle Newman and to star his wife Jaime King, "I am not OK with a film about me when I have not been told about it and when I have not given my agreement to the person playing my role". The project ended up being abandoned. In the same interview, she declared that no one was right to play her and that she hadn't seen Gainsbourg: A Heroic Life (2010), where Laetitia Casta plays her in a supporting part.
Screen debut for lead actress Julia de Nunez, fresh out of acting school. Her identity was kept a secret until about a month after filming concluded.
