After making an appearance during Feardemic’s Fear Fest earlier this month, Blowfish Studios and developer Indiesruption are set to hit the October edition of Steam Next Fest with their 2D pixel-art horror adventure title Vlad Circus: Descend into Madness. If you’re a fan of old-school adventure games like Sanitarium, then Vlad Circus might just scratch that itch.
The story takes place in 1921, where Vlad Petrescu’s famous Vlad Circus caught fire in a catastrophe that left hundreds dead. Following the tragedy, the circus troupe was disbanded, while the Vlad’s brother was found guilty of the fire and sentenced to death. Eight years later, Vlad Petrescu wants to re-form the circus, so he invites his once-legendary acts to once again entertain the masses. You play as one such member of the circus in Oliver Mills, a clown who soon seeks to escape this story full of mysteries, tragedies and pain.

While I’m glad that there’s been a recent boom in entertaining video game adaptations (like Peacock’s surprisingly fun Twisted Metal show), there has always been a curious discrepancy between games with impressive narratives that would benefit from the blockbuster treatment and games that are actually popular enough to warrant the investment of adapting them into other media.
This is why we often see more gameplay-driven titles reach the big screen (like Super Mario Bros and Resident Evil) before narrative-heavy franchises like Sanitarium or even Metal Gear Solid. It could be argued that this is a good thing, as there’s no point in adapting a story that already feels like a movie while you’re playing it, but it also means that filmmakers sometimes get free reign to do whatever they want in a picture so long as it generally ties into the larger world established by...

The new trailer and a new poster for 20th Century Studios’ and 21 Laps’ The Boogeyman has been unleashed this afternoon. The supernatural horror-thriller from the mind of best-selling author Stephen King opens June 2, 2023, exclusively in theaters worldwide.
In the film, “High school student Sadie Harper and her younger sister Sawyer are reeling from the recent death of their mother and aren’t getting much support from their father, Will, a therapist who is dealing with his own pain.
“When a desperate patient unexpectedly shows up at their home, he leaves behind a terrifying supernatural entity that preys on families and feeds on the suffering of its victims.”
“’The Boogeyman’ is a classic horror movie in the mold of ‘Poltergeist’ that has scares and heart in equal measure,” says director Rob Savage. “I vividly remember the terror I felt reading King’s short story as a kid, and it’s this...

You know how it goes: sign up for free at Gog, go to the giveaway, add Stasis to your library, and enjoy. In addition, The Gog Sale has titles heavily discounted (up to 90 off), with flash deals going on until September 5th. New titles are also expected to join the service during the sale, so keep an eye out for those if you’re into DRM-free games.
If you’ve never played Stasis (read our review from way back when), think of it as a mix between Event Horizon and the classic point-and-click psychological horror title, Sanitarium. This isometric point-and-click, sci-fi...

Twenty-five years ago, Rivers Cuomo was attending community college when his band Weezer released their self-titled debut. “I brought it to class and said, ‘Look everybody,’” he recalled in 1995. “They were all like, ‘Yeah, cool, whatever.’”

Arriving on May 10th, 1994, the 10-track self-titled LP best known as the Blue Album provided a new roadmap for alt-rock following the death of Kurt Cobain and the conclusion of grunge’s first era. Foo Fighters gave fans at their Kansas City, Missouri show on Friday a night to remember by covering Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” with a twist after Dave Grohl invited a young fan onstage to play guitar for the performance.
In fan-filmed footage, Grohl is seen asking the 10-year-old fan named Collier Cash Rule if he knew how to play guitar, to which he replied “yes.”
“What do you know?” Grohl asked, to which Collier responded, “I know a lot of Metallica songs.” The kid then proceeded to launch into the...

Kong is king! And since 1933, Kong has been one of the iconic movie monsters. For over 80 years in numerous films, the giant ape has gone from a stop-motion puppet to a spectacle of computer-generated effects. But Kong isn’t the only super-charged element in director Jordan Vogt-Roberts' new monster movie, Kong: Skull Island, a rather fun and never-too-serious action adventure film.
Monsters are real. Well, at least that’s what scientist Bill Randa (John Goodman) believes. He's spent his entire life hunting for evidence of monsters and believes that proof exists on Skull Island, an undocumented place kept hidden by a massive storm. Randa is finally given permission to explore the island with the help of a military platoon led by Lt. Col. Preston Packard (Samuel L. Jackson). Knowing that something beyond imagination could exist on the island, Randa employs a tracker named James Conrad (Tom Hiddleston) as well.

DCs Legends of Tomorrow has taken some crazy turns. Fighting their way through time and space. And they don't seem to be slowing down. It looks like our legends may be going A Long Time Ago, to A Galaxy Far Far Away.
The CW hit show, Legends of Tomorrow, has gone all around time. Encountering some pretty historic events, as well as some iconic characters and people. But it looks like late this season we will be venturing into the world of Star Wars. Figuratively speaking of course.
According to EW, Our Legends will be traveling to Los Angeles in 1967 for the winter premiere entitled "Raiders of the Lost Art". As they search for they lost leader Rip Hunter, who is apparently working as a director, they will come across a young George Lucas as he works on the short films that made him fall in love with film before...

It seems like a list of unconfirmed deleted and alternate scenes from David Ayer’s Suicide Squad has surfaced online. There’s no word on if this information is legit, but it’s definitely intriguing to read about a different version of the film that we could have seen.
Personally, I enjoyed the hell out of Suicide Squad, but for some reason, critics are hating it and it’s kind of sad that some of them can’t enjoy fun movies like this. It’s almost like most of them went into the film expecting it to suck so they went in looking for everything bad about the movie. I don’t think the film is perfect by any means, it has its faults, but it sure was a fun ride! If you missed my review, you can check it out here.
As far as general audiences go, they seem to be loving it.

Low on nightmare fuel? Fill up your tank by reliving your scariest memories from The Real Ghostbusters, a truly twisted 80s cartoon...
The Real Ghostbusters was a pretty messed-up cartoon sometimes. I think that’s one of life’s universal truths. I’m not quite sure why the world needed an unholy amalgam of anime, cheesy 80s synth music, and mind-bending eldritch horror with a chiselled version of Bill Murray on top. But it did, and it still feels so right to this day.

Divergent Many scoffed at predictions that Neil Burger's Divergent adaptation starring Shailene Woodley would open in excess of $65 million, citing recent Ya flops like The Host, Beautiful Creatures and The Mortal Instruments, but Fandango reports that the Ya sci-fi/actioner has already outpaced the first Twilight in advance first-day ticket sales. The movie also made the top five of must-see movies for 2014 in Fandango's fan-submitted survey, besting fanboy favorites like 300: Rise of an Empire and Need for Speed. Veronica Roth, who wrote the book on which the movie is based, praised the movie, saying that she "loved it" and "was completely absorbed by it." Divergent opens March 21st.

Anthology films are a tough racket. You can end up with a trio of stories, one being great – the others being subpar or downright terrible. There’s also the potential of two stories being great, and the third being the lazy leg that drags the film down or you know all three stories are just terrible. At any rate, when watching an anthology – there’s all kinds of potential for a really good time, a very mediocre time or a total shit storm.
The genre’s newest anthology offering with Sanitarium thankfully offers a slightly above average experience with two solid stories and a slightly off kilter one – which isn’t necessarily bad but we’ll get into that with each segment.

It appears that the intent of Sanitarium is to spawn a comic series that will get more and more gruesome thereby inspiring a sequel and perhaps a franchise. If that is to happen theyre going to have to do a lot better on future releases than the freshman effort. This is a marginally entertaining film that doesnt make much of a stand and isnt particularly memorable. It seems the thinking is that with headliners like Malcolm McDowell and Robert Englund its not quite so necessary to make it amazing. I wouldnt be surprised though if this little foray into horror doesnt mark the beginning of a comeback for Phillips he definitely went the extra mile.

Earlier this month the psychological horror anthology Sanitarium premiered during the Miami International Film Festival.
Directed by Bryan Ramirez, Kerry Valderrama and Bryan Ortiz, Sanitarium consists of three segments based on the particular patients of a mental institution that's being overseen by the sinister Dr. Stenson (Malcolm McDowell), who acts as the navigator through each chilling story.
With elements from "The Twilight Zone," "Alfred Hitchcock Presents," "Creepshow," and "Tales from the Crypt," Sanitarium explores the different narratives of the insane patients and the tales which led to their crazed states of minds. These accounts reflect hallucinations, imaginary voices and altered realities and include themes of the paranormal, the unexplainable and the mystical.

Is there a creepier place than mental institutions? All that authoritative oppression, screwy medical techniques and diabolical doctors is enough to get this writer's skin crawling.
And now it looks like a brand new horror anthology called Sanitarium is looking to tap into all those fears and much more.
Directed by Bryan Ramirez, Kerry Valderrama and Bryan Oritz- a trio of Texas filmmakers- Sanitarium follows Dr. Stenson (Malcolm McDowell), the primary physician at this particular institution who may have his own hidden agenda while treating his insane patients who seem to never get better, despite the fine doctor's 'best efforts.' The anthology also stars Robert Englund, Lacey Chabert, Lou Diamond Phillips and John Glover.

I remember seeing Malcolm McDowell speak at Lindenwood College a couple of years ago. Someone in the audience asked him about some Dtv thriller he had starred in. He just gave a blank look and said “I don’t remember anything about that movie!”
Well, I doubt he’ll forget about Sanitarium because it looks so darn scary!

I'm a sucker for horror anthology films like Creep Show, Black Sabbath, Tales from the Darkside, V/H/S, and S-vhs. If you are too, here's a red-band trailer for an interesting looking new horror anthology called Sanitarium.
The movie features segments directed by Bryan Ramirez, Kerry Valderrama, and Bryan Oritz. The film tells three stories that each take place within a mental institution and each story focuses on a different patient. Malcolm McDowell narrates the trailer, and it looks like he will play the head doctor who connects each of the segments together. Robert Englund, Lacey Chabert, Lou Diamond Phillips, and John Glover also star in the film, which will premiere on March 1st at the Miami International Film Festival.
The movie looks like it could be an insanely good time! Check out the trailer!

Over the past few years, horror fans have seen a resurgence of two former trends in the genre come back in a very big way: horror returning to television and anthology horror. Just this month alone we were treated to both with the return of The Walking Dead as well as the gory alphabet anthology The ABC’s of Death (which you can hear Andy and I review Here). Later this year we will see V/H/S/2 – formerly S-vhs – arrive in theaters and VOD, but prior to that, The Miami International Film Festival will premiere the next helping of horror shorts in the anthology Sanitarium. Malcolm McDowell leads a cast consisting of Robert Englund, Lacey Chabert, Lou Diamond Phillips, John Glover, and Walter Perez in three psychological stories directed by Kerry Valderama, Bryan Ortiz (both of whom worked on Doctor S Battled the Sex-Crazed Reefer Zombies: The Movie), and Bryan Ramirez.

Malcolm McDowell has had a long and distinguished career spanning nearly 50 years, working with the likes of Stanley Kubrick and Ken Loach, and appearing in movies such as Caligula and 2007′s Halloween. McDowell shows no signs of slowing down, however, with a supporting role on Franklin & Bash and a recurring role on The Mentalist, as well as numerous movies currently filming or in post-production, one of which is the horror anthology Sanitarium. Using a mental hospital as the common thread, the movie is comprised of three different segments, directed by Bryan Ortiz, Bryan Ramirez, and Kerry Valderrama. Joining McDowell onscreen is John Glover, Lacey Chabert, Lou Diamond Phillips, and Robert Englund. The first red-band trailer for the movie has now been released, and can be seen below.

"Insanity - it's a disease that spreads through the mind." Our friends at The Playlist have debuted a brand new red band festival trailer for an indie horror triptych film called Sanitarium, which is premiering at the Miami Film Festival next month. Horror films have recently found a new way to scare, by delivering bite-sized servings of terror. Recent successes like "V/H/S" and "The ABCs Of Death" have shown filmmakers getting creative within a smaller format, and the upcoming "Sanitarium" promises genre fans another dose of thrills in a contained package. Directors Bryan Ramirez, Kerry Valderrama and Bryan Oritz are behind this latest effort, which presents a triptych of stories all set within a sanitarium, with each segment zeroing in on a different patient. Malcolm McDowell leads the cast, which also includes horror fave Robert Englund, Lacey Chabert, Lou Diamond Phillips, John Glover and more. The exclusive red band trailer below gives a nice preview of the madness to come in the picture, and in case you're wondering, the song in the second half is "Coyote" by Pop Pistol. "Sanitarium" will have its World Premiere on March 1st at the Miami International.
