Exclusive: You producer Alloy Entertainment has a new head of television.

Former HBO drama executive Maia Hollinger has been appointed to the role. It comes after former television chief Gina Girolamo exited last year and subsequently struck an overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios.

Hollinger will report to Leslie Morgenstein, President and Chief Creative Officer of Alloy, who himself renewed his deal with Warner Bros. Television last year.

She has been tasked with expanding the company’s slate into more adult-focused series in addition to the YA series that it is known for.

As VP, Drama Development and Programming at HBO, she managed the development and production of drama series including The White Lotus, The Gilded Age, In Treatment, The New Pope and The Undoing. She spent four years at the premium cable network between January 2019 and December 2022 and was consulting with NBCUniversal on drama programming last year.

Hulu has shared the official key art for Shoresy Season Four, which will premiere on Wednesday, February 26 with all six new episodes exclusively available in the U.S. on Hulu. The first three seasons are now streaming on the service.

Liz Wise Lyall is returning to Lifetime – 15 years after she left.

Wise Lyall has been appointed SVP Scripted Programming and Development at the A+E Networks channel. It comes after she left The CW last year as it went through a round of layoffs.

She will now oversee Lifetime’s movie production strategy and scripted co-productions, spearheading development and execution of original films, as well as strategic partnerships and acquisitions.

Before joining The CW in 2010, Wise Lyall worked on Lifetime movies including The Pregnancy Pact with Thora Birch, To Be Fat Like Me starring Kaley Cuoco, and Girl, Positive with Jennie Garth as well as projects with Gale Ann Hurd, Garth Brooks and Salma Hayak.

Liz Wise Lyall is returning to Lifetime to serve as its senior vice president of scripted programming and development, the network announced on Thursday.

In her new role, Lyall will be responsible for leading the network’s movie production strategy and scripted co-productions. She will oversee the development and execution of original films while expanding strategic partnerships and acquisitions.

During her initial stint from 2005-2011, she served as a manager before being elevated to a director, working on movies such as “The Pregnancy Pact” with Thora Birch, “To Be Fat Like Me” starring Kaley Cuoco and “Girl, Positive” with Jennie Garth. Lyall also worked on creative partnerships with Gale Anne Hurd, Garth Brooks and Salma Hayek, among others.

During their Consumer Electronics Show (CES) presentation last night, Naughty Dog head Neil Druckmann officially announced that The Last of Us season two will debut this coming April, exclusively on HBO and streaming on Max.

The second season will consist of seven episodes, and while we don't have an exact premiere date just yet, we'd imagine the series returns sometime in mid-April, in the same release window Game of Thrones used to occupy during its run.

Hulu has announced that Crave’s Shoresy Season 4 will premiere on Wednesday, February 26 with all six new episodes available in the U.S. on Hulu. The first three seasons are now streaming on Hulu.

Canadian entertainment service Crave also revealed today that Shoresy has been renewed for a fifth season, which will go into production later this spring.

“Sonic the Hedgehog 3” races back into theaters with a slew of familiar faces and a couple new ones.

The big addition for the threequel is Keanu Reeves voicing Shadow the Hedgehog – a fan favorite character from the franchise. Jim Carrey is also back and this time pulling double duty playing both Ivo and Gerald Robotnik. Ben Schwartz also returns once again to voice the titular speedster.

Based on an acclaimed non-fiction book by Patrick Radden Keefe, "Say Nothing" is (as the book is subtitled) a "True History of Memory and Murder in Northern Ireland." The story chronicles a half-century of political dissent, threaded through the disappearance and murder of single mother (and alleged British informant) Jean McConville. The two characters we most follow through that thread are Dolours and Marian Price, two sisters inspired to join the Irish Republican Army (Ira) by the failures of peaceful protest and their family's long association with the organization.

Set in a dystopian future, Silo is a sci-fi series that focuses on a community established in a silo that is located 144 stories underground. The 100 is an entertaining yet frustrating sci-fi show that includes several points throughout its seven-season run where audiences have debated quitting the show altogether. The CW show ran longer than it should have. Still, it contains a fascinating exploration of humanity and the morals of its main characters, which gets tested with each season's unique antagonist figures. However, this means many of The 100's characters are "ruined" through decisions and arcs that appear to come out of nowhere. Exclusive: ABC is developing Devil’s Ranch, a one-hour military procedural from Will Trent‘s Rebecca Murga.

ABC preemptively acquired off a pitch from Murga, who is writing. Heidi Cole McAdams (Death and Other Details) is set as showrunner. The drama follows a group of ex-military personnel who operate a ranch on the Texas-Mexico border by day and conduct various missions across the globe by night.

20th Television is the studio. McAdams will exec produce alongside Trevor Engelson for Underground, with Underground’s Diego Rey serving as co-executive producer.

A military veteran who’s completed two tours in Afghanistan, Murga has history with ABC and 20th, as a writer on the last two seasons of their popular police procedural Will Trent. She’s also written on Apple TV+’s sports drama Swagger and has set up a coming-of-age Rotc drama at Amazon, which Spike Lee will direct and exec produce.

Exclusive: Welsh broadcaster S4C is set to develop an eco-thriller series created by Hugo Award-winning screenwriter Morgan Gendel.

The series, currently titled Isolation, follows a team of scientists working to combat global climate change who discover an even more catastrophic otherworldly threat.

It is being developed for S4C by Hiraeth Productions, Fun Republic Pictures and Karma Film, in association with Gendel’s Cashmere Road Entertainment and Bai-ley as part of S4C International’s Commercial Content Fund, which is designed to realize opportunities for global content across various platforms.

“We are thrilled with the transatlantic team we have assembled to create this ambitious new eco-thriller series,” Gwenllian Gravelle, Drama Commissioner at S4C said in a statement Friday. “We always strive to punch above with our original Welsh series development slate and (Morgan) Gendel’s Isolation does just that for us”.

Gina Girolamo has signed a TV overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios under her newly-launched Strega Stories banner, Variety has learned exclusively.

Girolamo was previously the head of television for Alloy Entertainment, which has been a division of Warner Bros. Television since 2012. Girolamo most recently served as executive vice president of television. It was reported earlier this year that she would be departing Alloy in June with the expiration of her contract.

“Gina Girolamo is a highly respected producer with exceptional creative instincts, who has been a part of so many series that resonate with audiences in profound ways,” said Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios. “We are delighted to work with this amazing dynamo at Amazon MGM Studios under this new deal and can’t wait to see what she creates for our Prime Video customers.”

Maas' stories are brimming with content that would make for excellent television adaptations, and her A Court of Thorns and Roses was picked up by Hulu — though the adaptation's prospects look grim after it was taken out of active development and lost its showrunner earlier this year. The complex world-building and dynamic characters found throughout Maas' books provide great foundations for on-screen adaptations. Many are hoping Hulu's Court of Thorns and Roses TV show will still happen, but another forgotten Maas adaptation should have been first.

Earth Abides is an upcoming miniseries set to premiere on MGM+ on December 1, 2024, with a diverse cast of characters. Earth Abides is based on the book of the same name by George R. Stewart, with a story that follows the main character, Ish Williams. Earth Abides has a phenomenal cast of characters with the perfect actors to portray them. Bellamy Blake was introduced in season 1 of The 100 and went on a long and treacherous journey over seven seasons until he died right before the series finale. Bob Morley played Bellamy from the pilot until season 7, episode 13, and where he started as a character and where he ended up were two very different people. In season 1, he was selfish and arrogant, while his season 7 self was being brainwashed by a religious military group. What do you do when the last spinoff of your favorite Canadian sci-fi show ended ages ago and you've worn out your DVD box set rewatching it? If you're as obsessive as I am about my favorite franchises, you might just want to catch up with all the show's stars in their most recent projects. The appeal of sci-fi shows like Black Mirror, Dark, and Station Eleven, some of the best dystopian sci-fi TV shows, is that they explore human truths using the context of technological advancement. From body modifications to time travel, sci-fi presents the dream of breaking boundaries that physics and biology impose on us, and uses that context to confront viewers with questions about the nature of humanity. While some shows like Star Trek have such a legacy that they're not only always remembered but consistently rebooted, some equally great shows have a more unfortunate fate.

The problem of relying on viewership per season led to recent sci-fi shows getting canceled that didn't deserve it. Shows like The 100 which have aired for years provide a rich collection of compelling storylines and complex conundrums, but with rampant cancelations, shows rarely have the prospect of doing that anymore. It's a high-risk, high-reward gamble these days.

The fallout around The CW’s layoffs is starting to emerge.

Deadline understands that scripted boss Liz Wise Lyall and Betsy Slenzak, who is the second in command in terms of unscripted programming, are among those affected.

Earlier today, Deadline revealed that the Nexstar-owned network cut around 35 people, a move that newly installed President Brad Schwartz called “one of the hardest decisions a company can make”.

Wise Lyall was SVP, Scripted Programming, essentially the company’s head of scripted content, overseeing current programming and development including international co-productions (such as its recent ITV co-pro Joan). She has been with The CW for over 14 years, having joined in 2010 from Lifetime. She has worked on series such as Riverdale, The Flash, Arrow and The 100.

911: Lone Star fans will finally get to meet Enzo, Tk’s stepfather. We’ve heard a lot about the man, but he’s only been mentioned. It’s time for a Lost vet to step into the role.

TV Insider shared the exclusive photos of Enzo coming into the series. He’ll be played by Henry Ian Cusick, who is best known for his role of Desmond Hume in Lost. He has also played Marcus Kane in The 100, Dr. Jonas Lear in The Passage, and Russ Taylor in MacGyver.

Fans are sure to be excited to see him step into this role. It’s a recurring one in the final season of the firefighter drama, but could that mean he’s moving to Texas or is he just visiting?

One of the fun knock-on effects about setting a story in a completely invented fantasy world is that you get to create, if you want, a new map for your new geography. J.R.R. Tolkien's maps of Middle-earth from his Lord of the Rings trilogy are very well-known. The opening credits to Game of Thrones became famous for swooping over maps of Westeros and Essos to show what locations we would be visiting each episode. And it goes on and on.

Author George R.R. Martin created maps of Westeros and Essos for his Song of Ice and Fire series, but he also invented a long and complicated history involving lots of wars and power struggles, meaning that the maps looked different in ages past. In the first season of Sherwood Schwartz's "Gilligan's Island," the opening theme song infamously left out character descriptors for Dawn Wells and Russell Johnson. It listed Gilligan, the Skipper too, the millionaire and his wife, the Movie Star, but then merely described Wells and Johnson as "And the rest." This was certainly unfair, as all seven members of the show's ensemble were equally important, each one bringing something valuable to the overall character dynamic. 

As many "Gilligan's" fans know, the reason Wells and Johnson weren't described was because of a stipulation in co-star Tina Louise's contract. Louise, who played Ginger the Movie Star, required that she be named last on any opening credits roll. Title star Bob Denver, however, felt that Wells and Johnson deserved more, and pulled rank on Louise. It seemed that he, too, had a contract stipulation allowing him to be listed in the credits wherever he wanted.

Morris Chestnut’s Watson will take the handoff from this season’s AFC Championship Game, when it debuts on CBS in January 2025.

Netflix’s “It’s What’s Inside” is the body-swapping thriller that sparked a bidding war at Sundance, and it’s finally streaming for all to see. And you’re probably going to want to see it a couple of times, because the ensemble cast is constantly rotating through characters, leaving the audience to keep up with who’s who — and in who’s body — at what point in the film.

We’re going to keep the basic cast and character details here spoiler-free, though we will add some hints to help you keep track, in case you’re wondering where you’ve seen that actor before without getting the whole movie ruined for you. There was a time when Marvel Studios and its dedicated fan base were making it seem like their movies and shows should be judged within the parameters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If they made a legal sitcom like She-Hulk and I compared it with something that’s referenced in that miniseries, Ally McBeal, and said that She-Hulk seemed like a cheap copy of Ally McBeal, then I’d be called a hater. Walker star Lindsey Morgan is opening up about what caused her to leave The CW show in its second season.

On this week’s I’ve Never Said This Before podcast, host Tommy Didario asked her about her departure from the show, which was announced on Oct. 29, 2021. At the time, Morgan cited “personal reasons” for leaving Walker.

In an exclusive clip from the podcast, obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, the actress revealed what actually caused her to leave the role of Micki Ramirez behind.

“I had a spinal injury, which was affecting my nervous system and my brainstem,” she said on the podcast, adding that it caused her crippling anxiety and stress and made her unable to perform her job.

Rhiannon Fish and Christopher Russell will be heating up your TV screens this weekend in the new Hallmark Channel original movie A Costa Rican Wedding.

The actors are putting their hot bodies on display for the film’s beach scenes and we have photos from the new film to share!

Here’s the movie’s synopsis: “A clumsy maid of honor gets help from her handsome nemesis when things go awry at her best friend’s Costa Rican wedding.”

Both Rhiannon and Christopher are regulars on Hallmark Channel and they have plenty of other credits to their names. Rhiannon is also known for her work on the series The 100 and the Australian soap opera Neighbours. Christopher is best known for the shows Day of the Dead and Reacher.

A Costa Rican Wedding debuts on Hallmark Channel on Saturday (August 17) at 8/7c.

Science fiction is probably the trickiest genre to nail, be it literature or cinema. While it offers you endless possibilities, you also have to put in a lot of effort to properly set up a world and then dream up a story exciting enough to appeal to your audience. And it’s doubly difficult when it comes to short films. All you have is about ten or twenty minutes. You’ve got to introduce your audience to a world that’s not theirs or something that doesn’t happen in this world, and then tell a story that makes them think. This is an extremely difficult feat to achieve, and the reason I’m being this emphatic is director Nick Azzaro’s short film, Alpha 27, in under ten minutes, has managed to do everything that I’ve mentioned already.

The biggest challenge here is to draw the audience into its world.

The 100 featured heartbreaking deaths that changed the show's dynamics. Characters like Bellamy, Jasper, and Monty met tragic fates. The sacrifices and losses in The 100 shaped the characters and storyline.

The CW's post-apocalyptic sci-fi series The 100 featured a lot of loss throughout its 100 episodes, but these The 100 deaths are the saddest in the show. Because The 100 takes place during a time period when Earth is no longer fully inhabitable, the conflicts between characters were almost always a matter of survival, and death truly did lurk around every corner. The show was never one to hold back in terms of delivering emotional moments, and it certainly wasn't shy when it came to killing off pivotal characters starting in just the third episode of The 100. In fact, many of the deaths changed things about the show as a whole.

The characters in this series were a complex bunch, with many doing seemingly unforgivable things.
