The premiere of the film at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival was delayed by roughly half an hour because a caller had made a bomb threat supposedly targeting Lil Nas X for being a black queer artist. However, according to a spokesperson for the festival, "To our knowledge, this was a general threat and not directed at the film or the artist." The threat was ultimately proven to not be credible.
