Exclusive: WTFilms has acquired international sales rights for Ukrainian director and producer Egor Olesov’s timely drama The Daughter set in the early days of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
News of the acquisition comes as Ukraine marks the one thousandth day of the resulting war, which has killed hundreds of thousands, displaced millions and destroyed dozens of once flourishing towns and cities.
The Daughter blends family dynamics with the horrors of war through the story of a 17-year-old, hearing-impaired girl called Olga, who is staying with her father and his new family in the once sleepy town of Bucha outside Kyiv when the Russia invasion of Ukraine begins.
Before the family has time to flee, their home is occupied by Russian soldiers who subject them to a reign of terror including threats of death and rape. Previously at odds with her stepmother, Olga comes to understand she...

Reed Richards' victory over Galactus actually proves he's not as smart as fans assume. Galacta's search for the Ultimate Nullifier reveals Reed didn't know how to use the Ultimate Nullifier when he won his first victory over Galactus. Galactus sees humanity and the Fantastic Four as insignificant; proven true by Reed's intelligence falling short on a cosmic scale.
One of Reed Richards most famous victories was over Galactus upon the Devourer of Worlds first appearance in Fantastic Four, which is often pointed to in regard to Mr. Fantastics intelligence - he was able to beat Galactus, therefore he must be smart on a cosmic scale. However, upon taking a closer look at that event, it becomes clear that Reeds first victory over Galactus actually proves the opposite, that hes not as smart as everyone assumes.

Jennifer Lopez's new action movie The Mother makes Netflix's all-time top 10 list and pushes out Martin Scorsese's Academy Award-nominated The Irishman. Lopez stars as the titular character, an unnamed assassin who reappears after years of living in seclusion to save the daughter she previously placed in foster care. After premiering in May, The Mother immediately proved popular, managing to score Netflix's biggest opening weekend for a movie in 2023 so far.
The Mother remains at the top of Netflix's weekly charts and has made the streaming service's all-time most popular English-language movies list with 229.3 million hours viewed in its first 28 days. By doing so, Lopez's action-thriller replaces Purple Hearts in the No. 8 slot and pushes Scorsese's The Irishman off the list entirely. Sandra Bullock's 2021 redemption drama The Unforgivable now sits at the bottom of the list at No. 10.

Jennifer Lopez Talks ‘The Mother’ Sequels and Stunt Work, Jokes About Auditioning to Play James Bond
Jennifer Lopez and the team behind “The Mother” are already thinking about a sequel.
“I think it would be ‘The Daughter,’” Lopez told me Wednesday night at the premiere of the new Netflix action thriller.
In the film, Lopez plays a former assassin who is pulled back into her deadly work when her 12-year-old daughter’s (Lucy Paez) life is put in danger.
Paez agreed. “The sequel will definitely be ‘The Daughter,’” the young actor said.
Not only does Lopez’s character kill at least a couple dozen men in the movie, but the actor’s impressive stunt work also includes motorcycle chases and gunfights while riding a snowmobile. “I was achy, but not hurt,” Lopez said. “I don’t think I’ve ever done an action movie like this. I do a lot of my own stunts because I’m athletic. But I have kids so I’m not going to risk anything.

Jennifer Ngo’s debut “Faceless” tells the story of four people from different walks of like as they participate in the 2019 anti-extradition protests in Hong Kong. Simply called The Student, The Artist, The Daughter, and The Believer, for their identifiable characteristics, and wearing masks, hats and goggles to protect their identities form the police, especially after the 2022 national security law that sees protests and anti-Chinese sentiments as acts of terrorism, Ngo and her team follow them as they prepare for and join the front lines of the increasingly more violent protests which culminate in the siege of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
“Faceless” is screening at the Black Movie International Festival of Independent Films

Back in good form with his twisted family drama “The Daughter” (“La Hija”), Manuel Martin Cuenca explores the psyche of what seems like an ordinary couple desperate to have a child. The father (played by Javier Gutierrez), who teaches at a juvenile center, makes a deal with a pregnant 14-year-old to adopt her child once it’s born. His wife (Patricia Lopez Arnaiz), at first reluctant, agrees to the scheme whereby the girl, played by luminous newcomer Irene Virguez, hides out in their remote home until she gives birth. Everything seems to go smoothly until the father of the teen mother’s child, whom she’s still in love with, turns up.

Playing a guy whose baby son is abducted in the BBC/ABC psychological drama The Cry directed by Glendyn Ivin was one of the most challenging roles in Ewen Leslie’s illustrious career.
The actor plays Alistair, an Australian political adviser working for the British Labour Party, who returns home with his wife Joanna (Doctor Who and Victoria’s Jenna Coleman) and infant.
En route to a small coastal town to see Alistair’s mother Elizabeth (Stella Gonet), the baby vanishes from their car, compounding the anguish for Alistair who is fighting for custody of his daughter Chloe (Markella Kavenagh) from an earlier marriage to Alexandra (Asher Keddie).

We've got another red-band trailer for you to watch for the upcoming wickedly insane film Assassination Nation. This was one of my favorite films at Sundance because it didn't pull any punches. This was a brutal film and it offers some dark and disturbing commentary on our society in the most insane ways.
The film is set in the small town of Salem, reminiscent of where 20 witches were hung because of nothing more than rumors about them being witches. In fact, imagine how much crazier things might have been if the Salem Witch mob had access to social media. That is the road that this movie goes down.
High school senior Lily and her group of friends live in a haze of texts, posts, selfies and chats just like the rest of the world. So, when an anonymous hacker starts posting details from the private lives of everyone in their small town,...

Exclusive: Riley Keough and Gina Gammell’s production company Felix Culpa has set Australian filmmaker Simon Stone to adapt and direct Lydia Millet’s New York Times bestseller Sweet Lamb of Heaven: A Novel. Keough is also set to star as Anna in the film and will produce alongside Gammell and Scott Free.
The domestic thriller/psychological horror novel was one of three novels Felix Culpa acquired rights to when they announced their label with Deadline. Sweet Lamb of Heaven follows Anna, a young mother, who is escaping her cold and unfaithful husband, Ned, a businessman who’s just launched his first campaign for political office. Ned chases Anna and their six-year-old daughter from Alaska to Maine, and the two go into hiding in a run-down motel on the coast. The longer they stay, the less the guests in the dingy motel look like typical tourists — and the less Ned resembles a typical candidate.
