    Kevin Bacon shows his chops

This role shows Kevin Bacon to me in a new light. Jackie Rohr isn't a likable character. He's basically a crook with a badge who has no discernible virtues. Bacon makes him come to life. If I can dislike Jackie, I have to credit Bacon with acting ability.

That said, I am really tired of Decourcy Ward. He seems to always come home crying to his rich girl liberal wife. He lies as much as Jackie Rohr does, and for the same reason: to cut corners and skirt the rules of conduct in his job.

With Kevin Bacon, I can see how far he has come from Footloose and Tremors. Aldis Hodge, as a newer face and given my lack of experience with his acting abilities, doesn't make the same impression with his role. For all I know, he's just being himself in his portrayal of another unlikable character in a drama.

    • Trivia
Not only is the building used for exterior shots of the hospital the same building used in the 1980s series "St. Elsewhere", but the hospital's PA system can be heard in the background calling the names of characters from "St. Elsewhere": "Doctor Axelrod, report for rounds"; "Doctor Westphal, you're wanted in ICU"; "Doctor Fiscus, go to ER". Tom Fontana, who is one of the producers of "City on a Hill", was a producer and writer on "St. Elsewhere".
    • Goofs
District Attorney Nathan Rey (Kevin Dunn) says to DeCourcy Ward: "These kids aren't the ones pulling the trigger. They run a website. They're dumb-shit computer geeks." This season is set in 1992 (even the third season takes place no later than 1993). The internet as a public service didn't exist until 1995. (There were early versions available to highly dedicated users , but this was not general knowledge -- and "running a website" as in this reference was certainly not something anyone would throw out in casual conversation.)
