During her Jan. 13 Q&a with She Media CEO Samantha Skey (hosted by TVLine sister site Flow Space), Brooke Shields spoke warmly of recently acting alongside three-time Emmy winner/eight-time Academy Award nominee Glenn Close and two-time Academy Award nominee Naomi Watts.

TVLine now hears that Shields worked with Close and Watts as a guest star on All’s Fair, the “glossy” legal drama that the prolific Ryan Murphy has in the works at Hulu. (Neither Hulu nor 20th Television would confirm Shields’ casting.)

Former Consequence cover star Jason Isbell has announced a new solo album called Foxes in the Snow. It’s set for release on March 7th via the artist’s own Southeastern Records. As the a first taste, Isbell has shared the reflective new song “Bury Me.” Stream it below.

His first entirely solo acoustic album, Isbell recorded Foxes in the Snow during a five-day recording stint at New York City’s Electric Lady Studios. He used the same mahogany 1940 Martin 0-17 acoustic guitar for each of the tracks — a notable detail given Isbell’s extensive and impressive collection of axes.

The Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence was discovered at 12 years old while she was vacationing in New York City. Born on August 15, 1990, in Indian Hills, Kentucky, Lawrence had a pretty different childhood. She was raised on a horse farm and was more accustomed to rough-and-tumble life than prim and proper etiquette. “We thought we were finished having kids,” her mother, Karen, alluded. But then came Lawrence, and they were back in baby mode.

Though Lawrence didn’t always fit in with her peers, she found solace in acting. A “hyper” child with social anxiety, she recalled during an interview with Rolling Stones, “I didn’t have any friends. I remember being kind of lonely.” Her anxieties, however, vanished when she was performing. Acting gave her purpose, and little did she know, it was only the beginning.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences announced on Monday the 207 feature films eligible for Best Picture consideration, two days before voting for the 2025 Oscar nominations begins.

There are 323 feature films eligible for the Academy Awards, but just 207 met the Best Picture competition eligibility requirements.

As stated by the Academy in a press release, “To be eligible for consideration in the general entry categories, under rules implemented for the 97th Academy Awards year, feature films must open in a commercial motion picture theater in at least one of six U.S. metropolitan areas: Los Angeles County; the City of New York; the Bay Area; Chicago, Illinois; Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas; and Atlanta, Georgia, between Jan. 1, 2024, and Dec. 31, 2024, and complete a minimum qualifying run of seven consecutive days in the same venue. Feature films must have a running time of more than 40 minutes.”

But Best Picture eligibility is different. Films under consideration...

There are 323 feature films eligible for the upcoming Academy Awards, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Monday, though a whopping 36% of those – 116 feature films – are not eligible for consideration in the Best Picture category.

The discrepancy between films that have qualified for the top category and films that are eligible in other categories comes either because the filmmakers did not attempt to qualify – likely the case for several documentary, animated or international films. Or because of new eligibility rules that require Best Picture candidates to meet additional benchmarks for diversity and inclusion. This is the second year that Representation and Inclusion Standards (Raise) have been enforced, though they did not appear to disqualify any serious contenders in the category.

A billionaire entrepreneur, Zhang co-founded Closer Media and previously co-founded Soho China, a construction giant in Beijing and Shanghai known for its iconic projects designed by leading architects from around the world. She left the company in 2022 and partnered with William Horberg, a veteran producer whose credits include “The Queen’s Gambit” and “The Talented Mr. Ripley,” to break into the media world.

A patron of the arts, Zhang also serves as a Trustee of MoMA, and is a member of both the Harvard Global Advisory Council and Asia Business Council.

New films by directors Lukas Dhont, Ana Teodora Mihai and Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are among 14 new projects to share €3 million in funding from Screen Flanders.

Flemish director Dhont, who was Oscar nominated for his 2023 feature Close, received €200,000 for his new feature Coward.

Dhont joins forces again with co-writer Angelo Tijssens for the film, whose plot details are not yet available. The Reunion, the production company set up by Michiel and Lukas Dhont, takes the lead in the film’s production, with Lumière Publishing releasing in the Benelux.

“Soldiers in Vietnam encountering dinosaurs… that hasn’t really been done.” That’s the premise behind the upcoming action/horror/sci-fi movie Primitive War, coming soon from writer/director Luke Sparke (Occupation Rainfall, Bring Him To Me). The film adapts author Ethan Pettus’ sci-fi military novel, and the first footage has arrived.

Written and directed by Rich Peppiatt, “Kneecap,” Ireland’s Oscar entry, scored 14 bids, including Best British Independent Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Joint Lead Performance for Liam Óg Ó Hannaidh, Naoise Ó Cairealláin, and JJ Ó Dochartaigh. It was shortlisted in a whopping eight crafts categories.

Rose Glass‘ “Love Lies Bleeding” was next in like with 12 nominations, including the same above-the-line categories as “Kneecap.” Kristen Stewart and Katy O’Brian are nominated for joint lead performance. It also earned eight crafts nominations.

Nora Fingsheidt‘s “The Outrun” received nine bids, including Best Lead Performance for Saoirse Ronan, who previously won the BIFA for Best Actress for 2015’s “Brooklyn.” The film is up for the top prize, while Fingsheidt is nominated for her direction and her script with Amy Liptrot.

As Spanish TV production stands strong, largely resisting the cut-back in commissions suffered in most of the world, few higher profile new series will be brought to market at Mipcom than Rodrigo Sorogoyen’s “The New Years” (“Los años nuevos”).

A Movistar Plus+ Original, produced with Caballo Films, the fast-rising Sorogoyen co-founded Madrid production label, in association with Arte France, “The New Years” follows on Sorogoyen’s “The Beasts,” which established him as one of Europe’s youngest top-tier filmmakers.

Few other directors will have won a Best Foreign Film César, as “The Beasts” did in 2023, beating four Cannes Festival 2022-23 competition winners: “Triangle of Sadness,” “Eo,” “Close” and “Boy from Heaven.” Not that many will have grossed $2.5 million in France with a Spanish-language film as well as an extraordinary €6.8 million ($7.5 million) in Spain, despite its artistic ambition.

In a move that promises to create a new indie production powerhouse in Belgium, Caviar, the company behind The Sound Of Metal, War Pony and The Rider, has taken 45% of the shares of leading Belgian outfit Versus Production and its two sister companies Inver Invest and O’Brother Distribution.

The remaining 55% of the shares will stay in the hands of Versus founder Jacques-Henri Bronckart. Together, the aim is to develop larger-scale, international-facing projects across film and television.

Iceage lead singer Elias Rønnenfelt is set to release his first album under his given name. Titled Heavy Glory, it’s out October 25th via Escho and features the new single, “No One Else.” Stream it below.

Work on the new album began in the spring of 2022, when Rønnenfelt announced he would play shows anywhere in Europe because he was “sick and tired of not being able to do what I do” during the tail end of the pandemic. While on the road, he would write new songs and play them the next day.

Rønnenfelt later recorded Heavy Glory in Copenhagen, sharing co-producer duties with longtime collaborator Nis Bysted. Danish punk veteran Peter Peter and singers Fauzia and Joanne Robertson contributed to the album.

The theatrical market is pretty complicated right now and original independent films have fewer champions. These new indie distributors — and there are others — see a necessity and a business proposition in nurturing them.

“There is still very much an audience for these movies when they are really good,” Laub tells Deadline.

Halle Berry and Glenn Close are set to star alongside Kim Kardashian in an upcoming Hulu legal drama that hails from Ryan Murphy, Variety has learned.

The series was first announced in December 2023 and is currently titled “All’s Fair.” As reported at that time, Kardashian will play a successful divorce lawyer who leads an all-female law firm in Los Angeles. Eight time Academy Award nominee Glenn Close (Heart of Stone) is the newest addition to the cast of Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, the third film in the Knives Out franchise from writer-director Rian Johnson, Deadline can confirm.

Details as to her role are under wraps, as is the plot of the threequel. Daniel Craig will reprise his role as famed Southern detective Benoit Blanc, with Josh O’Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Andrew Scott and Kerry Washington also on board. Production kicks off this month, with the film to launch sometime in 2025.

Glenn Close is the latest star to board the new Knives Out mystery movie. The actress has joined the all-star cast of Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, Rian Johnson’s thriller headlined by Daniel Craig.

The Netflix feature has been on a casting tear in the past week, furiously sewing up deals as it heads toward an early June production start in the U.K.

Challengers’ Josh O’Connor, Civil War actress Cailee Spaeny, Ripley star Andrew Scott and Scandal alum Kerry Washington are already on the list of suspects (and maybe represent a victim or two).

Plot details and character information are being kept in the morgue, but the thriller is expected to follow the same circuitous path as Johnson’s previous Knives Out mysteries. Eccentric, Southern-fried detective Benoit Blanc (Criag) will uncover the details behind a murder while surrounded by a coterie of colorful characters.

Updated: Kerry Washington and Glenn Close are the newest suspects in “Knives Out 3.”

They join the previously announced cast of Daniel Craig, returning as the quirky detective Benoit Blanc, and possible suspects of “Fleabag” actor Andrew Scott, “Challengers” breakout Josh O’Connor and “Priscilla” star Cailee Spaeny. “Knives Out” movies are known to employ a who’s who of Hollywood, so expect plenty of casting announcements for the whodunit in the coming weeks.

Rian Johnson is writing and directing the third “Knives Out” installment, titled “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.” He’s also producing with his T-Street partner Ram Bergman, who worked on the first two films. “Wake Up Dead Man” is expected to soon go into production and is slated to release in 2025. Plot details have yet to be revealed, but Johnson and Craig have teased that it is Blanc’s “most dangerous case yet.”

Lempicka, the much-anticipated but cooly received musical directed by Hadestown‘s Rachel Chavkin, will play its final performance on Sunday, May 19, producers announced tonight, just a month after opening.

In a statement, producers Seaview and Jenny Niederhoffer said: “We are so proud of our production and the family of artists and artisans who’ve shaped it. Few knew better than Tamara de Lempicka that art isn’t easy but always worth the effort.”

The musical received three Tony nominations on Tuesday, including two for the performances of Eden Espinosa (Leading Actress in a Musical) and Amber Iman (Featured Actress in a Musical). A third nom went to Riccardo Hernández and Peter Nigrini for their scenic design. The hoped-for nomination for Best Musical didn’t happen.

The pair, who faced off as Claus and Sunny von Bülow in the 1990 Oscar-winning thriller are set to reteam in the upcoming best-agers comedy, from British director Simon Curtis (My Week with Marilyn, Downton Abbey: A New Era).

Close and Irons, who also co-starred in Mike Nichols’ award-winning Broadway play The Real Thing, both winning Tony Awards for their performances, last shared the screen in 1993’s The House of Spirits. In Encore, they will play two former Broadway icons, Marie and Nigel, who become residents of a retirement home. Once there, they discover a community of forgotten talents and Marie decides to put on a show, hoping to revive Nigel’s passion for theatre and help him embrace this new chapter in their lives.

European film executives Christian De Schutter and Barbara Van Lombeek have teamed up to launch The FYC Academy, an agency for global awards strategies.

FYC – which stands for For Your Campaign – will launch officially in Cannes next month. The company’s focus is to set up international campaigns and develop strategies aimed at achieving optimum visibility for films during awards season.

It will include, but is not limited to Academy Awards campaigns, and will work initially on around five titles per year, from any international territory.

Do Aur Do Pyaar was stable on Sunday as 1.35 crore came in. This is a bit of an increment over Saturday collections of 1.28 crore, though a higher growth that would have taken the film past the 1.50-1.75 crore range would have been even better.

The film is running at the selected count of screens and shows because Eid releases Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Maidaan still have maximum showcasing. Elliot Page stepped out for the 2024 BFI Flare film festival premiere of his new movie Close to You held at BFI Southbank on Thursday (March 14) in London.

The 37-year-old actor co-wrote, produced and stars in the film, which is his first movie since 2017!

He was joined at the European premiere of the movie by co-writer and director Dominic Savage, as well as co-star Hillary Baack. The next day, Elliot went solo at a conversation for the film.
