It's time to talk about Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice," one of the most enduring novels in English literature. It is a tale so timeless that countless adaptations — both official and not-so-official — have been made, approaching the source material from all sorts of perspectives. Apart from inspiring cinematic adaptations, Austen's novel has also led to a world of associated stories, including Janet Aylmer's bestselling "Darcy's Story" and the more recent "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies," which blends period drama with ultra-violent zombie-horror tropes.
Due to the sheer breadth of adaptations, discerning which one is the "best" can certainly be tricky. For starters there's the mix of faithful adaptations versus those loosely inspired by the 1813 novel, such as the Bollywood-style "Bride & Prejudice" or the Emmy-winning "The Lizzie Bennet Diaries." For the sake of simplicity, let's stick to straightforward adaptations, which firmly situate themselves within the novel's text and...

Pre-sales for Captain America: Brave New World began on Friday, and early reports suggest it’s doing better than The Marvels and the Joker sequel, though it’s not performing as well as Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania from 2023.
Box office analyst Luiz Fernando noted that ticket sales are 1.4 times higher than those other movies but still fall short of Quantumania (see below).
Despite being ahead of some recent underperformers, this isn’t the best start. Quantumania itself underwhelmed, and The Marvels along with Joker: Folie à Deux were considered flops. Still, there’s room for hope, with a projected debut between $86 million and $95 million over the Valentine’s Day/President’s Day weekend.

Ever since Steve Rogers decided to hand his shield off to his buddy Sam Wilson (a.k.a. Falcon) at the end of Avengers: Endgame, fans have wondered what was next. We got a Disney+ series that showed Sam’s hesitance to pick up the mantle of Captain America and the history that comes with it. By the end of the series, he knew he was the only person who could take on the role of Captain America. Now, where do we go? It looks like the upcoming story of super heroes and alter egos, Captain America: Brave New World, will tell us when it reaches theatre screens on February 14, 2025.

Christopher Lee starred in many now-classic horror movies, among them The Wicker Man, which ended up becoming the direct inspiration for a metal song 27 years after its release. Christopher Lee is one of the most respected actors of his generation, with an impressive career spanning over six decades and covering not just movies and TV projects but also music. Lee became widely known after playing Dracula in seven Hammer Horror movies, which also made him one of the most iconic horror actors ever. Outside his Dracula movies, one of Lee’s most notable horror movies is The Wicker Man.
The Wicker Man was directed by Robin Hardy, written by Anthony Shaffer, and inspired by David Pinner’s 1967 novel Ritual. The Wicker Man is a folk horror movie that follows Sgt. The Marvel Cinematic Universe might be the biggest flex in Hollywood, but not every star is lining up for a sequel. Some actors have hung up their capes for good, done with all the spandex and CGI madness. Meanwhile, a few are itching to jump back into the action, practically sliding into Kevin Feige’s DMs for another shot.

Captain America: Brave New World director Julius Onah recently spoke about how the inclusion of Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross/Red Hulk shaped the overall thematic message of the next Marvel Cinematic Universe film. Thunderbolt Ross will be portrayed by legendary actor Harrison Ford, following the unfortunate passing of William Hurt, who had played the role since 2008. This iteration of the character was recently elected as the President of the United States. In keeping with his past appearances, he will be an antagonist to Sam Wilson/Captain America and Joaquin Torres/Falcon, played by Anthony Mackie and Danny Ramirez, respectively.

In the ongoing streaming wars and the endless discussions about the state of the entertainment industry that they've sparked, NBCUniversal's Peacock has become something of a contentious topic, if not an outright comedic punching bag -- with even Nikki Glaser's opening monologue at the 2025 Golden Globes joking that "The Day of the Jackal" is "about a top secret elite sniper that no one can find 'cause he's on Peacock." Nevertheless, the American streamer counts over 30 million subscribers, and jokes aside, those subscribers actually do have quite a plentiful offer of great television available at their fingertips.

A new year means new entries for the Marvel Cinematic Universe are on the way. First up will be Anthony Mackie taking center stage as the new Captain America in Captain America: Brave New World. The movie went into production in March of 2023, with filming lasting through June. But in December of ’23, another screenwriter was brought onto the project to write new material for reshoots, and those reshoots seemed to be quite substantial, lasting from May 2024 through November. We know that the story still involves the Serpent Society; in fact, the reshoots added Giancarlo Esposito into the mix as Sidewinder, the leader of the Serpent Society.

Putting a dystopian future on the big screen was nothing new in the early 2000s, especially when set in the realm of science-fiction. But making it work also within the action genre is a monumental ask. Really, how often did an all-out action flick want to make its viewers think…especially when the plot revolves around thinking be illegal.
But Kurt Wimmer gave it a go with Equilibrium, which wondered what the world might look like under a totalitarian rule…if there was a lot of gunplay involved. Brushed aside by the studio, critics and moviegoers, Equilibrium has gone on to become a minor cult favorite (including here on JoBlo), something Wimmer could have never seen coming…Just don’t go comparing it to The Matrix in front of him…

Avengers Assemble #5 Preview Features Captain America's Craziest Transformation Yet: Meet Cap-Snake!
The five-issue Avengers Assemble series launched last September and ends this month after assembling an all-star team of heroes known as the Aveng.E.R.S., the Avengers Emergency Response Squad.
Among those reporting for duty have been Captain America (Steve Rogers), The Wasp, Hawkeye (Clint Barton), Hercules, She-Hulk, Photon, Wonder Man, and Shang-Chi, a group of Avengers that feels very McU-inspired. However, they've also been joined by obscure heroes like Night-Thrasher, Lightning, and Lightspeed (Julie Power).
Inspired by the team he pulled together during Blood Hunt, Avengers Assemble has seen Captain America take on a new initiative: recruiting new and classic Avengers for an all-new squad. Cap's team will operate out of Avengers Mansion and tackle one crisis after another on globetrotting superhero missions.
The fourth instalment ended with a major cliffhanger when it was revealed that the Serpent Society had created a deadly toxin known as the Serpent's Tears.

Ahead of his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America: Brave New World, Carl Lumbly opened up about his return to the role of Isaiah Bradley, after a scene-stealing turn in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Isaiah, a Korean War veteran, was a victim of experiments by the US military in an attempt to recreate the success they had in giving Steve Rogers/Captain America, based in part on the tragic real-life victims of the Tuskegee experiment, in which African American men with syphilis were falsely told they were receiving treatment.
Isaiah was wrongly incarcerated due to defying orders in an attempt to save his fellow super soldiers, who sadly did not survive the effects of their experimentation. Den of Thieves 2: Pantera is a heist film starring Gerard Butler and O’Shea Jackson Jr. in the lead roles, reprising their characters from the previous film. It was released in the US by Lionsgate and beat Mufasa and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 to occupy the top spot in the daily box office chart in the US. Sometimes, you gotta go through the hardest battles to earn your place in the sun. While Captain America might be famous for wielding a shield and fighting for justice, the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World is about to face a different kind of battle—one that doesn’t involve fighting Hydra but rather the high expectations of its predecessors and the shifting dynamics of the Marvel universe.

Let’s get this out of the way: Captain America: Brave New World is certainly set to make waves when it hits theaters. But, while fans will no doubt flock to theaters in droves for the February release, early box-office projections are showing that this sequel might not reach the same stratospheric heights as Captain America: Civil War.

We're still just over a month away from the release of the next Marvel Studios movie, Captain America: Brave New World, and early box office tracking for Sam Wilson's (Anthony Mackie) first big-screen outing as the Sentinel of Liberty is now online.
It's still very early days for an accurate estimate, but according to Box Office Theory, the latest MCU adventure looks set for a domestic opening weekend of between $81 million and 107 million (a final domestic total of $195-280 million is predicted).
This wouldn't exactly be a spectacular bow (and quite a bit behind Deadpool and Wolverine's $211 million), but keep in mind that these are only domestic estimates.
Though the most recent trailer did go over a lot better than the initial teaser, anticipation for the film has been somewhat muted. Mixed/negative test-screening reports haven't helped, and it remains to be seen if this fourth Cap movie -...

Thanks to USA Today, we have a new look at Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts*. For the former, we see Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson suited up and looking ready to head into action as the McU's new Captain America.
When it comes to Thunderbolts*, Yelena Belova/Black Widow (Florence Pugh), U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), and Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) are put front and centre.
Each of these characters is expected to have a significant role to play in Avengers: Doomsday, likely as part of the same or two separate teams of Avengers. It's widely believed the asterisk in Thunderbolts*'s title stands for *New Avengers, while we've heard Sam is looking to assemble a team of his own in Brave New World.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe took a slight break in 2024; the only entries were the loosely-connected film "Deadpool & Wolverine," the "Hawkeye" spinoff show "Echo," and the witchy Disney+ series "Agatha All Along" (along with the third and final season of the animated multiverse anthology "What If...?").
But now in 2025, the MCU is soaring back in full strength, starting with "Captain America: Brave New World." Following on from the "Falcon and The Winter Soldier" Disney+ series, Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) has officially stepped into the role of Captain America for the franchise's fourth film. Sam is set to find himself in an international conspiracy of Hulk supporting characters, from President Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross (Harrison Ford), aka the Red Hulk, to the long-unseen twisted scientist Samuel Sterns/The Leader (Tim Blake Nelson).
So, of course, it's time for movie synergy. Sam is the Captain America in Jed MacKay's "Avengers" right now...

Ok, so I'm finally starting to see how Sam Wilson's Captain America can stand a chance against Red Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World. I've been pretty skeptical for a while now regarding how Wilson will actually be able to fight a full-on Hulk in the MCU without getting absolutely pummeled from the get-go. However, a new reveal from Marvel Studios does make me more confident about their imminent showdown.
Captain America: Brave New World is the next MCU movie which is set to release on February 14th, 2025. Starring Anthony Mackie as the McU's new Captain America, Sam Wilson will initially work for and then clash with Harrison Ford's US President Ross who will eventually transform into the Red Hulk. Sebastian Stan is an integral part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe when it comes to the Captain America side of things. Having appeared in every Captain America movie since the first, Bucky Barnes might seem as synonymous with the franchise as Cap himself.

Things are back on track for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The beloved franchise has delivered some of its strongest outings in recent memory over the course of the past year, with the box-office sensation Deadpool and Wolverine and the universally-adored Agatha All Along all helping it climb back up to the top of the mountain.
It hasn't been an easy ride for the film series. Ever since it started the Multiverse Saga, its audience has questioned it, with some fearing that it shouldn't have carried on after the loss of multiple main characters in Avengers: Endgame and others feeling its was spreading itself too thin as it reached across film and television. But it has endured, and now it looks ahead to finishing the Multiverse Saga on a strong note, with some major comebacks planned for the occasions.
Speaking of comebacks, Marvel has officially unveiled the first look at its upcoming villain.

"Severance" Season 2 can't come soon enough. Fans of Dan Erickson's visually and psychologically arresting science fiction drama have had to wait nearly four years to learn the fates of Lumen Industries employees Mark (Adam Scott), Helly (Britt Lower), Dylan (Zack Cherry), and Irving (John Turturro), all of whom had their lives and livelihoods put in jeopardy as a consequence of Season 1's cliffhanger finale.
For the uninitiated, the Apple TV+ series explores a not-too-distant future in which a corporation can sever or bifurcate a person's mind so that they essentially have two sets of separate memories -- one as the person they are in their personal life, and another as the person they are when they come to work. This essentially creates two separate people who share one body, one of whom spends the entirety of their life working a mind-numbing office job.

Some of the strongest characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will make their first appearances in 2025, and many of them could pose a huge threat to the future of Marvel Studios' franchise. Since the MCU kicked off back in 2008 with the release of Iron Man, some of the most powerful characters from Marvel Comics have been adapted into live-action. This has included the likes of Doctor Strange, Thanos, the Scarlet Witch and Thor, among many others, but there are even more that haven't yet appeared in the live-action MCU.
2025 is set to be a huge year for Marvel Studios, as three feature films, three live-action TV shows and three animated shows will be released throughout the year. These projects will include some heavy-hitters, such as Sam Wilson's Captain America, the Fantastic Four, Daredevil and Ironheart. The design of the Red Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World has me even more excited about the upcoming MCU sequel, as it seems to be fixing a huge Phase 4 controversy. I can't wait for Marvel Studios to transform Thaddeus Ross, the new President of the United States in the MCU, into the Red Hulk, taking inspiration from his Marvel Comics counterpart. Played by Harrison Ford following the late William Hurt's passing in 2022, President Ross will only be one of Captain America: Brave New World's villains, but might be the most highly-anticipated.
Trailers for Captain America: Brave New World, which is set to mark Anthony Mackie's theatrical debut as Sam Wilson's Captain America on February 14, 2025, have me very excited about the upcoming legacy sequel. Marvel Studios just made me think that one power upgrade from Marvel Comics I never expected to be seen in the MCU could actually happen in Captain America: Brave New World. Brave New World will mark Anthony Mackie's theatrical debut as Sam Wilson's Captain America, but he won't be the only new hero suiting up in the Phase 5 sequel. 2021's The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series introduced us to Danny Ramirez's Joaquín Torres, who die-hard Marvel Comics fans will know as Sam Wilson's successor as the Falcon.
Several bird-themed heroes have been introduced to the MCU over the years, including the likes of Sam Wilson's Falcon, Adrian Toomes' Vulture and Clint Barton's Hawkeye. Joaquín Torres will suit up as the new Falcon in Captain America: Brave New World, but one recent bird-themed hero makes me think his future in the MCU will be far more unusual than his predecessor's.

After Moon Knight's recent MCU return after a two-year hiatus, Marvel needs to green-light Moon Knight season 2 to address many significant details from the first season. Marvel still hasn't stated if Moon Knight season 2 is happening, and he hasn't appeared or been confirmed for another MCU project since 2022. However, that could change after Isaac returned to voice Moon Knight in What If...? season 3.
Moon Knight joins the Avengers in season 3, episode 1 of What If...?. The episode establishes a universe where the Avengers build mech suits to fight a Kaiju-type Hulk and his army of gamma monsters. Warning! This post contains Spoilers for Sam Wilson: Captain America #1
Marvel Comics' Sam Wilson is bringing a piece of the MCU to the page ahead of his upcoming movie, Captain America: Brave New World (though there is a catch). As seen in his brand-new Marvel series, Sam Wilson's Captain America is looking into a new organization that seemingly wants to improve the world, and their head of security is a pretty familiar, and red, face. That said, the issue confirms a twist in the new comic series, making Sam Wilson's new showdown more distinct than what will be seen in the McU's next movie.
In Sam Wilson: Captain America #1 by Greg Pak, Evan Narcisse, Edar Messias, and Valentine De Landro, Wilson's cousin convinces Sam to look into and consider becoming a spokes-hero for Eaglestar, a former paramilitary outfit that's rebranded itself with a major land grant program, having created...

2025 will be an exciting year in movies as Hollywood continues to capitalize on successful franchises. The year promises to deliver several highly-anticipated sequels, including long-awaited continuations to new chapters in film’s biggest franchises.
However, not every sequel fans hope for is set to make the cut in 2025. Script delays, released changes, and more will put a pause on some series.
Movie sequels coming in 2025
Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy Renée Zellweger (not Jennifer Lawrence), Hugh Grant, Colin Firth and Emma Thompson are back for the fourth installment of the Bridget Jones series. The follow-up to 2016’s Bridget Jones’s Baby is based on the novel by Helen Fielding. Newcomers Isla Fisher, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Leo Woodall join the cast. It hits Peacock on Feb. 13 and theaters worldwide on Feb. 14.

The MCU Just Made Hulk's Return In 2025 Far More Urgent Despite Marvel Ignoring The Best Opportunity
Marvel Studios' best chance to bring Bruce Banner's Hulk back to the MCU was just revealed in What If...? season 3, but 2025's upcoming Captain America: Brave New World might be missing the boat. Bruce Banner has been central to the MCU since his debut in 2008's The Incredible Hulk, and Mark Ruffalo has taken the Hulk to new heights, culminating in him becoming Smart Hulk in Avengers: Endgame. In the Multiverse Saga, the Hulk is still incredibly important, which makes it even more confusing that Marvel Studios seems to have sidelined the original Avenger.
Following his evolution into the Smart Hulk, Mark Ruffalo has appeared as Bruce Banner in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. He has also been pivotal in the development of Marvel Animation's What If...? series, appearing in multiple episodes of all three seasons of the multiversal show.

No original Avenger is confirmed for Marvel's 2025 lineup, but one needs to appear to resolve a glaring story issue. 12 years after The Avengers, only a few of the original team are still active in the MCU timeline. Iron Man and Black Widow sacrificed themselves to defeat Thanos in Avengers: Endgame and Captain America retired with Peggy Carter. Thor, Bruce Banner, and Hawkeye are the only original MCU Avengers left, and they still have more to do. However, it's unknown when these characters will return next.
The McU's 2025 lineup includes three movies and three Disney+ shows. Thor, Hulk, and Hawkeye aren't expected in any of these projects, but Hawkeye has connections to Thunderbolts* and Daredevil. While Hawkeye wouldn't have a starring role, the character needs to return in 2025 to address the narrative ties he has to these two projects.

Some of the most exciting characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be introduced to live-action in 2025. Since 2008's Iron Man, Marvel Studios has adapted dozens of Marvel Comics' most powerful, notable and complex characters, heroes and villains alike, into the live-action MCU, fleshing out the almost-two-decade-long franchise. This is only set to continue in 2025, with both the McU's theatrical releases and Disney+ shows introducing some of the franchise's most significant and exciting characters yet, who will change the shape of the MCU forever.

We're roughly six weeks away from Captain America: Brave New World arriving in theaters across the globe and another round of promo art has just found its way online.
That finally gives us an official look at Tim Blake Nelson's MCU return as The Leader and, despite wearing a relatively grounded costume, the villain otherwise looks like he's stepped straight from the pages of the comics.
There are also some familiar shots of Sam Wilson as Captain America and plenty of awesome shots of Red Hulk rampaging into action. It's still a little strange to think that Brave New World is focusing on two of The Hulk's greatest foes and we'd be shocked if Bruce Banner doesn't have some sort of role to play here.
At the very least, it feels like Marvel Studios is setting the stage for that long-awaited World War Hulk project.

Thanks in large part to Hollywood’s double strike of 2023, 2024 was a pretty thin one in terms of releases for Marvel Studios. But that’s not so much the case in 2025.
In total, there are nine releases on the calendar for 2025, with three films and six series. That’s not exactly a surprise though, considering in May, Bob Iger revealed on Disney’s earnings call that they’d be reducing their annual output on films to “two to the maximum three.”
Iger also predicted that there would be “about two TV series a year,” but it’s unclear when that’s set to begin. The move was a direct aim to “focus more on quality,” according to the CEO.
So, here are the Marvel movies and series you can expect in 2025, and where they currently land on the calendar.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew seems to have escaped the notorious curse that has plagued the franchise, causing shows like The Acolyte to tank right out of the gate. Skeleton Crew has received a lot of praise for its story, which has seemingly taken the franchise out of the ditch that it is in.

The last episode of the show, and the best-rated yet, titled You Have A Lot to Learn About Pirates, bodes well for another Disney property. While Star Wars seems to be steadily healing behind the scenes, there is another brand under Disney that needs some oomph injected back into its box office numbers and critical acclaim.

In the comics, Steve Rogers was shot and killed by a brainwashed Sharon Carter shortly after the events of Civil War. Bucky then took over the Captain America mantle in what proved to be a stellar run for the character in that role.
Steve eventually returned but, years later, lost the Super Soldier Serum and reverted to his true age. With that, Sam Wilson - a.k.a. The Falcon - became the new Captain America in another popular comic book story arc.
In The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Marvel Studios skipped Bucky altogether and went straight to Sam. The latter will take centre stage in Captain America: Brave New World, while the former Hydra assassin looks set to be a key player in Thunderbolts*.
Appearing at Tokyo Comic-Con this weekend, Sebastian Stan lifted Cap's shield and, much to the delight of fans in attendance, he teased: "Not Captain America.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is getting ready to go big in the next year, but that could include some shocking deaths along the way. 2024 was one of the slowest years for the MCU, especially given how the franchise has been releasing projects constantly since the start of the Multiverse Saga. While it has become one of the McU's best movies, Deadpool & Wolverine was the only Marvel Studios film released this year.
That will change in 2025, as Marvel has three movies scheduled for release. Marvel Studios also recently shared a teaser for all the 6 series set to come in the next year, which include both live-action and animated projects. With many MCU TV shows and movies being released in 2025, the year will see the return or debut of major Marvel characters. However, things can take a dark turn for some of them, with shocking deaths possible.

Anthony Mackie has opened up about how the story of Captain America: Brave New World will avoid repeating that of his MCU Disney+ series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Anthony Mackie has now appeared as Sam Wilson in eight projects, and has evolved over the last decade from Steve Rogers' sidekick, the Falcon, into the McU's new Captain America. Mackie will next appear in Marvel Studios' Captain America: Brave New World in February 2025, marking his theatrical debut as Captain America after becoming the Star-Spangled-Man in Phase 4.
Captain America: Brave New World's release is heavily featured in the February 2025 issue of Empire Magazine, in which Anthony Mackie explains more about the upcoming movie's storyline. Mackie explains the difference between Brave New World and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, noting that while themes of race are still "subtext" in the former, "it's not the focus." Captain America 4 Unique Milestone (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Captain America: Brave New World is the next movie in the MCU. It is the third series in the franchise after Avengers and Thor to extend after a trilogy and the first Captain America movie not to feature Chris Evans. Directed by Julius Onah, the film will feature the struggles between the new Captain Sam Wilson and the new US President Thaddeus Ross, who is also the Red Hulk.
The movie is also set to achieve a unique milestone, becoming the first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to be released on Valentine’s Day. While superhero films have traditionally been reserved for summer and holiday windows, Brave New World follows an unconventional path, aiming to capitalize on the day of romance. However, despite its release date, it is tough to imagine a lot of romance in the movie.
