Marvel Studios has released the first featurette for Captain America: Brave New World and it offers some much-needed insights into what kind of Captain America Sam Wilson is going to be.

Anthony Mackie, meanwhile, teases an "old school" Marvel feel and Harrison Ford hypes up his MCU debut as Red Hulk. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is also on hand to share some hints about what's to come in 2025's first MCU movie.

There are several snippets of new footage too, including a great shot of the enraged President of the United States.

Pre-sales for Captain America: Brave New World began on Friday, and early reports suggest it’s doing better than The Marvels and the Joker sequel, though it’s not performing as well as Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania from 2023.

Box office analyst Luiz Fernando noted that ticket sales are 1.4 times higher than those other movies but still fall short of Quantumania (see below).

Despite being ahead of some recent underperformers, this isn’t the best start. Quantumania itself underwhelmed, and The Marvels along with Joker: Folie à Deux were considered flops. Still, there’s room for hope, with a projected debut between $86 million and $95 million over the Valentine’s Day/President’s Day weekend.

This wouldn't exactly be a spectacular bow (and quite a bit behind Deadpool and Wolverine's $211 million), but keep in mind that these are only domestic estimates.

The design of the Red Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World has me even more excited about the upcoming MCU sequel, as it seems to be fixing a huge Phase 4 controversy. Marvel Studios just made me think that one power upgrade from Marvel Comics I never expected to be seen in the MCU could actually happen in Captain America: Brave New World. Brave New World will mark Anthony Mackie's theatrical debut as Sam Wilson's Captain America, but he won't be the only new hero suiting up in the Phase 5 sequel. 2021's The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series introduced us to Danny Ramirez's Joaquín Torres, who die-hard Marvel Comics fans will know as Sam Wilson's successor as the Falcon.

Several bird-themed heroes have been introduced to the MCU over the years, including the likes of Sam Wilson's Falcon, Adrian Toomes' Vulture and Clint Barton's Hawkeye. Joaquín Torres will suit up as the new Falcon in Captain America: Brave New World, but one recent bird-themed hero makes me think his future in the MCU will be far more unusual than his predecessor's.

2025 will be an exciting year in movies as Hollywood continues to capitalize on successful franchises. The year promises to deliver several highly-anticipated sequels, including long-awaited continuations to new chapters in film’s biggest franchises.

However, not every sequel fans hope for is set to make the cut in 2025. Script delays, released changes, and more will put a pause on some series.

Movie sequels coming in 2025

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy Renée Zellweger (not Jennifer Lawrence), Hugh Grant, Colin Firth and Emma Thompson are back for the fourth installment of the Bridget Jones series. The follow-up to 2016’s Bridget Jones’s Baby is based on the novel by Helen Fielding. Newcomers Isla Fisher, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Leo Woodall join the cast. It hits Peacock on Feb. 13 and theaters worldwide on Feb. 14.

Marvel Studios' best chance to bring Bruce Banner's Hulk back to the MCU was just revealed in What If...? season 3, but 2025's upcoming Captain America: Brave New World might be missing the boat. Bruce Banner has been central to the MCU since his debut in 2008's The Incredible Hulk, and Mark Ruffalo has taken the Hulk to new heights, culminating in him becoming Smart Hulk in Avengers: Endgame. In the Multiverse Saga, the Hulk is still incredibly important, which makes it even more confusing that Marvel Studios seems to have sidelined the original Avenger.

Following his evolution into the Smart Hulk, Mark Ruffalo has appeared as Bruce Banner in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. He has also been pivotal in the development of Marvel Animation's What If...? series, appearing in multiple episodes of all three seasons of the multiversal show.

No original Avenger is confirmed for Marvel's 2025 lineup, but one needs to appear to resolve a glaring story issue. 12 years after The Avengers, only a few of the original team are still active in the MCU timeline. Iron Man and Black Widow sacrificed themselves to defeat Thanos in Avengers: Endgame and Captain America retired with Peggy Carter. Thor, Bruce Banner, and Hawkeye are the only original MCU Avengers left, and they still have more to do. However, it's unknown when these characters will return next.

The McU's 2025 lineup includes three movies and three Disney+ shows. Thor, Hulk, and Hawkeye aren't expected in any of these projects, but Hawkeye has connections to Thunderbolts* and Daredevil. While Hawkeye wouldn't have a starring role, the character needs to return in 2025 to address the narrative ties he has to these two projects.

With six live-action projects expected to release in the MCU in 2025, dozens of new and exciting characters will be introduced to the franchise alongside mainstays, including Sam Wilson's Captain America, Bucky Barnes' Winter Soldier and Matt Murdock's Daredevil.

We're roughly six weeks away from Captain America: Brave New World arriving in theaters across the globe and another round of promo art has just found its way online.

That finally gives us an official look at Tim Blake Nelson's MCU return as The Leader and, despite wearing a relatively grounded costume, the villain otherwise looks like he's stepped straight from the pages of the comics.

There are also some familiar shots of Sam Wilson as Captain America and plenty of awesome shots of Red Hulk rampaging into action. It's still a little strange to think that Brave New World is focusing on two of The Hulk's greatest foes and we'd be shocked if Bruce Banner doesn't have some sort of role to play here.

At the very least, it feels like Marvel Studios is setting the stage for that long-awaited World War Hulk project.

Thanks in large part to Hollywood’s double strike of 2023, 2024 was a pretty thin one in terms of releases for Marvel Studios. But that’s not so much the case in 2025.

In total, there are nine releases on the calendar for 2025, with three films and six series. That’s not exactly a surprise though, considering in May, Bob Iger revealed on Disney’s earnings call that they’d be reducing their annual output on films to “two to the maximum three.”

Iger also predicted that there would be “about two TV series a year,” but it’s unclear when that’s set to begin. The move was a direct aim to “focus more on quality,” according to the CEO.

So, here are the Marvel movies and series you can expect in 2025, and where they currently land on the calendar.

In the comics, Steve Rogers was shot and killed by a brainwashed Sharon Carter shortly after the events of Civil War. Bucky then took over the Captain America mantle in what proved to be a stellar run for the character in that role.

Steve eventually returned but, years later, lost the Super Soldier Serum and reverted to his true age. With that, Sam Wilson - a.k.a. The Falcon - became the new Captain America in another popular comic book story arc.

In The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Marvel Studios skipped Bucky altogether and went straight to Sam. The latter will take centre stage in Captain America: Brave New World, while the former Hydra assassin looks set to be a key player in Thunderbolts*.
