Between this and Calamity Jane, Tim Rozon is the ultimate Western actor. He's the ultimate studmuffin in this one but he was good in Calamity, too. And what he lacks, Greg Lawson makes up for.
The rest of Vengeance was okay, and it was nice to see the gang back together, Even minus Walls, and Bobo, like they couldn't have brought them back somehow. It also didn't help (or hurt) that they brought in a villain from an undisclosed part of Wynonna'a past. Like Nicole said in a meta comment, Vengeance seems more like a reboot than a reunion, what with the Black Badge corruption and the "Here's to the adventure" near-last line.

...Leo McKern is the one doing most of the talking. His plummy "dear friends" alone is worth the price of admission. Morse gets some good lines, and even Landau has a few good moments. Barbara Bain is... well, Barbara Bain. The Alphans are pretty much non-entities, particularly the newcomer filling in for Paul Hancock. At least Koenig gives him a welcoming speech, which is more than the rotating helmsmen ever got on Star Trek.
Overall, for a late-season episode, "Machine" isn't bad. Yes, Lew Grade threw some money at it (see Trivia), but it's more tolerable than some of the earlier episodes of Season 1. It's more like a Season 2 episode, but without the comic book sensibilities. But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. What do you think?
