Forrester Harvey and Dorothy Granger have been married five years, and life has grown dull. She thinks she'll start a diet tomorrow, but as soon as he nods off, she butters another piece of corn and starts eating it. Kenneth Thompson suggests she goes with him to Tijuana, and she orders him to leave. His buddy, Harry Bowen, suggests he goes to Malibu and he says no. But when they quarrel, he announce s she's off to Mexico, and he states he's going to the beach.
It's well acted, but dull. Here's the secret that Mack Sennett had been harboring for 20 years: his performers could act. And Everyone here acts perfectly well. It's just that the gags that would make this a funny comedy are missing. Alas, Sennett's productions are back to where they were in 1912, when his bosses at Biograph insisted on story and acting. He revolted and went off to found Keystone, but now he had grown tired, and the industry was not doing well enough to sustain him.

What should you do if someone is poisoned? This Encyclopedia Britannica video recommends you get the victim professional medical help as soon as possible. That's basic, and often ignored. Other useful advice we get here is to keep poisonous things out of the reach of small children, to keep the telephone numbers of your doctor and the local hospital handy.
Normally I would write this off as rather dully presented, but here's a case when a just-the-facts attitude and a calm voice making suggestions is of far more value than something more cinematic would be. Doing the right thing calmly and quickly is far more important than being entertaining.

John Garfield may be the genuine middleweight boxing champion, but otherwise he's a phony. E cultivates an image of a mother-loving fellow who avoids booze and dames. When a reporter finds out differently, his manager kills him. But Garfield thinks he did it while he was drunk and heads out west on the rods. He lands up at a failing date farm run by May Robson and grand daughter Gloria Dickson, with the help of the Dead End Kids. Garfield decides they need a gas pump for income, and goes into the ring against tank fighter Frank Riggi. Meanwhile, New York detective Claude Rains becomes convinced that the corpse identified as Garfield wasn't Garfield. A chance photo of Garfield shows up in the newspapers, and he heads out west to see if it is Garfield.
It's a remake of 1933's THE LIFE OF JIMMY DOLAN. Garfield, as usual, gives a fine performance, and while Raines is miscast, the rest of the movie is pretty good. Look for the usual fine supporting cast, including Ann Sheridan, Ward Bond, Louis Jean Heydt, and Arthur Housman as a ringside drunk who annoys Miss Robson.
