Lily James sharing a spoon of peanut butter with her dog?! Like she ate from it, then offered it to her dog to which he obliged with slobbery licks, and then she put it back in her mouth.... I... have no words. I have not been left with anything else but this from the moment I saw it. I have been in emotional turmoil wondering who does this; discord over whether it was a character choice or Lily James' second nature. I am fraught with mental dishevel. How could one possibly, on camera, a natural instinct, without hesitation or pause...
The film wanted to be like Fargo. It was not. The tone and plot were jumbled, the ending quick. I don't know why the writer was eager to sit down and develop this story. JGL deserves better. He tried though. He always gives it his all. Just not a rounded screenplay for this caliber of cast.

I really like the mood of this film. I'm 37, adore 80s settings, and live for fun set decor. Besides the camera/lighting visuals, the production design, costumes, hair, and makeup were so fun and camp, I loved the world they created. The music supervision was great, with one particular song cover that I searched for after the first viewing because I liked a lot. The story/pacing definitely becomes rushed and flawed towards the end. I would have enjoyed more time with them either getting to know each other or spiraling (maybe even just a montage would have sufficed), before leading up to the last victim. I remember thinking the first viewing, "oh no it's over?!" and each time I watch it to go to sleep now it's the same feeling. It feels very short to me.
Performances from the three teen leads were fantastic. Liza S. Is not the standard 80s cheerleader mean girl. I love the scene when she is on the phone with the police. Kathryn is fantastic, as usual. She's one of the best upcoming actresses of her generation IMO. I'm always excited when I see her name on a film. Cole does great physicality for having little speaking lines. The chemistry is there, and they're adorable.
For reviewers rating lower because of the acting, tone, rating, and genre blending, I'm perplexed. It's a Diablo Cody script. It's the cousin to Jennifer's Body. Not sure what those folks were expecting, although it was more YA than JB, it has familial elements. If you think any of the characters are unlikable because of morals or character choices then this was just never gonna be the film for you 😂
