To Whom It May Concern:
I highly recommend Deanna Boerstler as a candidate for an art teaching position in your school district.
I am the art teacher for Donald H. Eichhorn Middle School in Lewisburg, PA. I have taught middle school
art for over 30 years. I worked with Deanna during the fall semester of her junior year for her Methods
course. I respect Deanna as both a teacher and a friend. It was a pleasure to watch her grow and develop
her skills as an art teacher.
Deanna spent three or more hours a week in my classroom during this semester course. Through
readings, discussion, reflective writing and classroom experience, she developed a solid understanding of
the issues, concepts and theories that shape the art classroom. Deanna planned and taught lessons that
reflected an understanding of the art standards. She understood the diverse needs of students and used
instructional strategies that could effectively address those needs. Deanna also visited the other art
teachers in our district, observing all levels of instruction. Deanna developed her classroom management
using agendas, bell ringers, wait time and previewing vocabulary.
I feel Deannas greatest strength as a teacher is her rapport with students and staff. She is compassionate
and respects the students. In turn, they respond to her in a very positive fashion! Students are well
behaved, focused and produce excellent quality artwork under her direction and instruction. This attests to
her superior teaching abilities.
Deanna returned to our school in the spring to assist with the District Wide Art Show and again last fall to
help judge a poster contest.
