Audience
Part A: The Year 10 Health Education class.
Part B: The Queensland Department of Health.
Background
In class throughout the semester, we have explored the health issue of risky driving behaviours,
what those behaviours include and reasons for why these behaviours are prevalent in todays
society. The first hand effects of the health issue have been defined and we have also explored the
more expansive complex relationships that are evident because of Risky Driving Behaviours. We
have also discovered previous strategies that have been implemented by the government and how
they have been successful or unsuccessful due to existing barriers that have also been identified
through the unit.
Task Description
The Queensland Department for Health has reached a consensus that alterations in their approach
to addressing the issue of risky driving behaviours must be considered and is requesting assistance
from Year 11 Health Education students. Your goal is to both raise awareness in the school
community in relation to Risky Driving Behaviours through an informative session as well as
presenting a document to the Queensland Government recommending future action which should
be taken to lower the frequency of risky driving behaviours in Queensland.
Task
Part A
In groups of four, present an 8-10 minute informative session to the Year 10 Health Education class.
The session must include at least one activity that the audience will participate in which incorporates
an aspect of ICT technology. Your session must target one or more action areas of the Ottawa
Charter and Social Justice Principles and all group members must contribute equally through the
preparation and presentation of the session.
Part B
Individually write a 1000 word report to the Queensland Department for Health outlining:
What your informative session included and what strategies did you implement?
How you addressed the complex barriers which have created complications in the past for
governments addressing risky driving behaviours. Why will the strategies you implemented
be successful?
What action area/areas of the Ottawa Charter are targeted in the strategy/strategies?
Why your informative session should be replicated in all schools across Queensland.
Please note you are presenting your proposed strategies and justification to the Queensland
Government. Please be aware of the language required for this audience. Ensure to follow the
report structure that can be found on the school U-Drive.
An activity involving ICT must be included during the informative presentation to allow a more
interactive and participation based session. Whilst this may seem confronting to some, these
integrations will enhance informative sessions and in some cases create activities which would be
impossible without the use of ICT technologies.
Suggestions for ICT use are as follows:
A racing car game on a gaming console (Playstation, Xbox, Wii etc)
A racing car game on the PC
A platform game on the PC
Activities using the interactive whiteboard
YouTube video clips
A vast array of useful resources is also available to be used during your informative session, BE
CREATIVE! The aim of your informative session is to educate your audience. However, your goal
will only be achieved if your audience has your attention and are interested in the content you are
presenting.
Also, be aware all members of your group must participate in not only the presentation equally, but
also the development and preparation of the session. Peer evaluation will be anonymously
completed by all members and evaluations will be considered when allocating individual grades for
all students.
