Consumer Forums across the country registered these complaints against Lays.
While
some are relevant, many aren’t. But it is the company’s responsibility to look at each
complaint carefully and ensure that they don’t do anything to annoy their consumers.
With the advent and proliferation of the internet, registering complaints and taking
action has become much easier and quicker than it used to be.

Complaint - Only 4 chips in 14 grams packet
The day on 09.12.09 I had purchased 3 packets of 14 gms Lays in different
flavours. In one packet, there were only 4 chips of Lays. Here are the
particulars.
Lays Pack Details:
Flavour: Classic Salted (Yellow Pack)
Net Wt: 14 g
The Batch No: N285A
Manufacture Date: 20 Oct 09
MRP: Rs. 5/-
This suggests that this food product company is not checking the weight and
quality of the pack. Please look into the matter.

Complaint - Poor supply & distribution
Here in Belgaum, there is poor distribution of your products. We have newly
started a shop and there is great demand for your products. When I called your
distribution centre several times, I received no response. As I have a lot of
customers, I can ensure a large order but the response of the company has
been very bad and I am very unhappy. Please take action regarding this.

Complaint - Suspect about the amount of product.
Today I purchased a packet of Lays India's Magic Masala of worth Rs. 5/-. I
am sure that the amount of product is not 14gm as claimed by the company.
I'm regular consumer of this product and I want to sue the company for this
cheat.

Complaint - Adulteration in the American Lays Pack
Today I bought an American Lays pack (Frito lays) from the nearest general
store in Gurgaon. While I was half way through eating I saw a very dirty
insect (like a small grasshopper) sticking to the chip. It was all dried out.when
I opened the pack completely, I saw some more and then something like blood
on some chips.
I want the company to address this ASAP. I don't know if I had already eaten
some of the contaminated chips or what might happen to me if I did. Please
make note of this in case something happens to me.
Please help in proceeding and filing a case against the company.

Complaint - Overcharging by Shopkeepers
In reference to the "Jaago Grahak Jaago" initiative taken by the Ministry of
Consumer Affairs, Govt of India. Please try to implement it as soon as
possible as we feel helpless in some matters. Please try to give the contact
number of “Consumer Affairs” area wise so that we can dial the number
directly.
I have been observing since long time that almost all the Shopkeepers and
Dhaba owners who own Shops and Dhabas on the National Highway No.9
from Hyderabad to Mumbai are charging over the MRP. (For Ex. All Soft
Drinks Rs.5 Extra than MRP, All Biscuits Rs.2 Extra than MRP, For Chips
Rs.2 Extra than MRP and many more…)

Complaint - Only broken crumbs at bottom
I bought a large bag of Regular Lay's Potato Chips from the Tops at Penfield
Rd. Rochester, New York. I got home we opened the bag only to find that the
first handful was great regular size chips but under the second handful they
were all little bits and pieces of chips I was greatly disappointed we were
having guests over and you couldn’t eat them or serve them because of the
size tiny broken chips. I was very disappointed and feel I am paying good
money for this big bag and not getting my money’s worth. I am talking tiny
broken chips.
I have the UPC code date bought and price.

Complaint - Found red colour ants in Lays
I have purchased 10 Rs. wafers packet of lays from Dmart, Kandivali,
Mumbai. When I opened the pack my daughter noticed ants on the chips.
When we took out all the wafers there were hundreds of ants in the packet. I
complained in Dmart, and even mentioned it in their register. I don’t know
whether they have taken any action, but I returned that packet as it is to Dmart.

Complaint - Sold after expiry date
Yesterday, May18th 2009, I went to Food Bazaar, the one in Brand Factory,
Lumbini Mall, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad to purchase food items. I picked
several stuff from there, among the products I bought Lays Stax from there as
well. After billing when I checked for the expiry date, it was 10th April 2009
on 1 box and 28th April 2009 on the other box. This is second time when such
an incident has happened in that store. Store manager is just not concerned
about the products. I want to report this and request some strict action to be
taken against the store so that they don’t repeat.

Complaint - Less quantity in terms of its price
I, Sameer M. Puranik stay in Pune, Surobhi township.B-201, Tingre nagar,
near Father Michael Soc., Pune -411015. I had purchased Lays classic salt
potato wafers (share} packet. Its price was Rs20/- but its quantity was just 70
gm but the other company named as Balaji wafers same flavour its price was
also Rs. 20 but its quantity was more i.e. 120gm.Thus Lays is cheating several
customers so please take strict action against Lays.

Complaint -Open packets in every box
Hi there. Having a shop and buying in bulk is supposed to save you money.
But if in every box you open there is 3-6 open packets of lays chips that you
can't sell what do you do with that. I am sorry I cannot except that I need to
lose out on every box of lays chips I buy; I need to be reimbursed for my loss
so far.
If I have another customer coming back saying the packet is open and the
chips is old I am surely going to place this in the news papers, because I don’t
only lose out cash but also my regular customers...

Complaint - Chips in Worst condition
We purchased one packet of Lays from the market for my child. My child ate
some of the chips & coughed loudly. I checked & found all lays chips in worst
condition. It is very dangerous for health of consumers and I hope some action
is taken to prevent this in the future.

Complaint - No Chips In Packet
I am S M Ahmed from Bangalore, my kids like lays chips very much and I
always purchase it for them. Today 28th Dec 08, as usual I bought the chips
packets in one of the packet not even a single chip were there. This is cheating
and I wish to notify the company about it.

Complaint – No chips in packet
I recently bought a big bay of the low fat lays potato chips, and when I opened
it, there were only a few chips in the bottom of the bag. The rest was filled
with air.

Complaint - tasteless chips
I bought a packet of lays-Spanish style. When I opened the packet and began
to eat, the chips were absolutely tasteless. I mean, there was no flavour in the
chips! It was greatly disappointing to see such carelessness on part of the
company.

Complaint - No Chips: Just Air > Very Embarrassing
I bought a packet of (Lay's-American Style Cream &Onion) potato chips a
few days ago 32g B.No-N214B, MFD: 20-Jun-08 and to my surprise when I
tried to open it, I realized there is nothing in but just air.
I still have the packet in my possession and it is still filled with air, I want to
escalate this matter, because I went through embarrassment in front of my 5
year son who only likes these chips as a snack.
It is not about Rs.10 packet, it is about the brand Frito Lays, how can such a
big company like Lays float products in the market before proper quality
check.
They better reimburse me for my embarrassment and improve in quality, I
have the packet in my possession and I will escalate this matter to the highest
authority, and there are people out there to help me.

Complaint - free gift not given
I bought a pack of 80g classic salted potato chips of Lays worth Rs 20. I won a
Free Rs 5.00 pack of Lays or Uncle Chipps. But the retailer (Donald shop at
IMT Ghaziabad) refused to give me any free pack of chips saying that it was
not given to them by the company. What can I do in such a situation?

Complaint - no chips in packet
Hi this is Juhi from Udaipur, I have purchased 150 gm packet of Lays which
only has air and no chips!

I have been regular consumer and I definitely feel that this is not as per the
standard of the company. Though the matter is only of Rs 5 but the amount of
shame I felt in front of my two daughters, that is not at all measurable.
They were asking me to buy this for long and whole coming from school when
I purchased n gave them the packet they shook it n said there is no voice of
chips in the packet, I was shell shocked and yes it was correct.
How MNC's can do such a blunder, I don’t understand, and if they are doing
this they need to pay for the same.

Complaint - Charging more than M.R.P.
I have been travelling to Pune-Mumbai from Expressway from past two years.
It has been observed that all the food malls present on Expressway charged
more than M.R.P. listed on a pack. For e.g. Lays, Kurkure Rs 20 /- pack is
charged for Rs. 25 /- or Rs. 30 /-. If you asked them, why you charged more
than M.R.P. listed then, they rudely tell "if you can't give this much money
then don't purchase it.This is the rate over here" It seems, you r the only fool
fighting with them over M.R.P. Please take some action...
As can be seen from the above cases, companies like Frito Lay need to be extremely
cautious before floating any product in the market.
