CHAPTER 1:
THE PROBLEM AND BACKGROUND
Introduction
It is difficult for a student to choose a Career. If they have not learned
anything yet, understand and evaluate the choice and adapt it to your decision. Strand
and course are your way to find your career that fits yourself, before deciding on your
future career, it's important to perform thorough research and to know your options.
Even if you have a career in mind, you may come across something you hadn't
previously thought of. As you look for the right career, keep your biggest strengths in
mind. Though you can always work on your skill set, starting your research with jobs
you know you'd be good at can lead you in the right direction. It can also improve your
chances of job satisfaction.
Those students having a difficulty in decision-making and thinking about
negative results are the one who are undecided to their career. Students having a hard
time to find their career because they think they don't fit at the career, lack of
confidence, as the result of that, they can't decide because of their negativity. They may
lack information about themselves. They may need to spend some time in college to
learn more about all these areas, Search careers that suit you. It needs
1
time to find your career. The major subjects they chose in their college may not be
compatible so they have an undecided choice for the career they will pursue.
Some thoughts on why being undecided is not only okay, but can even be a
benefit on your college journey. Undecided majors—also called “undeclared majors” or
“open majors,” depending on the institution—have the freedom to explore.
We gathered that according to tata health, decision-making, especially
career decision-making, can be influenced by a lot of intrinsic and extrinsic factors.
Understand these influences can help in making an informed career decision which can
have long-term implications. The following are some of the factors that are considered
in the process of career decision making.
First is personality, personality consists of relatively stable enduring traits. A
match between one’s personality and career are associated with better adjustment at
work and job satisfaction. A career counsellor will use standardized tests to assess
personality and give feedback on your dominant traits and their relevance to one’s
career. Second is the Interest, although not as stable as personality can also influence
your career decision-making process. Your career interests involve your preferences
about work environments and the nature of the work that you want to pursue. A career
counsellor may understand your career-related interests by administering standardized
tests. Third is Values an understanding of our core values that we consider non-
2
negotiable can help us guide our career decision-making process. A career that clashes
with our values can lead to dissonance, influencing our job satisfaction. An avenue that
can help you realize and express your core values can also lead to a greater sense of
purpose and meaning in your work. Fourth is Perception of careers, popular media has
influenced our perception of careers. There are some careers that are perceived to be
more glamorous and desirable than others, solely based on how they are portrayed.
However, selecting a career path based on a biased perception may not be an ideal
method, leaving us vulnerable to experience shock and regret. It would be helpful if you
consult people working in the field to get a more accurate perception of the pros and
cons of the career. Fifth is Skills abilities and talents, the skills, abilities, and talents that
you have acquired over the years also play a role in your career choices. Sixth is
Culture. The culture that you were exposed to does have a significant role in influencing
the values and expectations.
One’s selection of a career can be influenced by the cultural norms that an
individual is expected to follow. However, these cultural norms can also create
expectations and pressure to adhere to them. Multicultural career counselling can help
address these dilemmas, which can help you make an informed and strategic decision.
Seventh is Socio-economic factors, our career choices occur in the context of the
economy and forces that affect the economy. Our own socio-economic status might be
a significant determining force that will influence the choice of our career. The
remuneration that we receive, our long-term financial aspirations influence our career
3
choices. The last one is Other career related factors, the prospects for growth within a
career, the
3
perquisites it offers, the geographical location of the organization, the opportunity to
work from home, job security are other parameters that can influence our career
choices
As you can see there are lots of factors to consider but need not do it alone.
Seeking support from a trained career counsellor can aid you in making a strategic and
informed decision.
The negative effects that can happen to students who are still undecided in
their careers are, they may not immediately be able to choose a course they will study
when they come to college because they are not sure of the path they will take. They
may also not have preparedness in life. It is very important to know and prepare your
desired career as soon as possible in order to be prepared for the future.
The outcome if they did not find the right career is as mentioned earlier, there
may not be preparedness in life, even if you have a career but you don't really want it,
you may even be disappointed in growing it, there may also be confusion because of
uncertainty in the career path
In the end, students need to know what kind of career that suits to them.
Choosing career that fits to them means they’re slowly learning things about them until
they recognize what kind of person they are and what kind of career fits to them. The
first step, they need to do is to examine their selves, what are those values they believe
4
of, what kind of work they are capable of, did they enjoy doing those or that work. In
finding career you need to use your passion and talent, you need to know what kind of
work gives you energy, makes you excite, and do you enjoy learning about what kind of
career you are capable of. You also need to be confident about your passion and talent
to achieve the success on your career. Second, you need to know your motivations.
when you know what kind of career you are capable of, you are starting to gain
motivation to it, once you found out what career you wanted, you’ll starts to feel that you
need to be the best on your career, and that's a motivation. another thing that gives you
motivation is the salary and benefits of the career, you should think about that, gaining
tons of money will gives you a benefit and motivates you to work hard to your career.
Third, the goal, it helps you to pursue what you want to do, example of that is you want
to have a big company, by that it gives you an idea what kind of career you want.
Fourth, make a research about those careers, it gives you an idea what kind of career
fits to you, research about what kind of work environment they have, how much is the
salary and is it enough for you. Last, self-assessment test, one of the important steps,
you will probably know what kind of personality type do you have, what kind of
intelligence you have, by that you will know what kind of work environment you are
capable of. In personality type, if you are an introvert, you are mostly in the quiet, not
that many people you work of, and you can work at the office company, and if your
intelligence is linguistic, you can be a teacher or a story writer. By those steps, students
5
can help themselves to know what kind of career they will choose, it also helps them
while pursuing their career.

Choices of students. The St. Agnes Academy of Caloocan Inc. Grade 11 ICT students
will serve as the study's primary subjects. 30 ICT students in Grade 11 will be the
maximum number of respondents. Additionally, in order to prevent bias, the
respondents will also get a set of questionnaires in the form of a Google survey, which
they must complete for each topic that the researchers will ask. The data gathered from
the selected respondents will be used as both a data source and a point of reference for
the study in question. This would enable the researchers to determine the negative
effects of undecidability in career choices of students of ICT students at St. Agnes

Foreign Literature
Héloïse Berkowitz et., al (2022) Organizing for societal grand
challenges. Meta-organizations are crucial devices to tackle grand challenges.
Yet, by bringing together different organizations, with potentially diverging views
on these grand challenges, meta-organizations need to cope with the emergence
of contradictory underlying social orders. Do contradictory orders affect meta-
organizations’ ability to govern grand challenges and if so, how? This paper
investigates these essential questions by focusing on the evolution and
intermeshing of social orders within international governance meta-organizations.
Focusing on the International Whaling Commission and the grand challenge of
whale conservation, we show how over time incompatible social orders between
the meta-organization and its members emerge, evolve and clash. As our study
shows, this clash of social orders ultimately removes the “decidability” of certain
social orders at the meta-organizational level. We define decidability as the
possibility for actors to reach collective decisions about changing an existing
social order that falls under a collective’s mandate. We argue that maintaining
decidability is a key condition for grand challenges’ governance success while
12
the emergence of “non-decidability” of controversial social orders can lead to
substantial
failure. We contribute to both the emerging literature on grand challenges
and organization theory.

Oğuzhan Kırdök and Esranur Harman (2018) One of the reasons of
being undecided in choosing career is being in the locus of control, it plays an
important role in the process of decision-making and may affect decision-making
behavior directly. There are two types of locus of control, first is the external
locus of control. External locus of control believes on the other people luck and
fate, it let other people control them, they may not come to the process of
decision-making. The other locus off control is the internal locus of control, it is a
control-oriented and aware on their own decision-making.
There is a significant impact on the decision-making process of the family
and the community. While making their own future career plans, students can be
under pressure of choosing the career their families predestined for them
irrespective of their own desires and of going on the profession of their parents.
The family and the environment influenced the student being undecidability in
choosing their career.

Local Studies
Julde E. Dangoy(2020) One of the challenges that influences students
of being undecided with their career is adolescent stage. This is the stage where the
student is planning and preparing themselves in a role, taking a part in the community
by taking the desired course or job to uplift his/her dignity as a person. As students
continue to college, wisely choosing a career greatly impacts their future career life.
Changing courses could be a cause of having the wrong decision in choosing career
that could lead to a waste of time, resources, and career frustration.
