Adverb qualifies the nearest word especially Verb, Adjective or
Adverb. (Adverb निकटतम शब्द के निए प्रयु क्त होता है खास कर निया, निशेषण ि
नियानिशेषण के निए।)

POSITION OF ADVERB

• Adverb comes near the word that it qualifies. (Adverb उस शब्द के नजदीक आता
है जजसके लरए वह प्रमक्

3. He only works when he has nothing to eat.

Kinds of Adverb
1. Adverb of Time yesterday, ago, now, before etc.
2. Adverb of Frequency seldom, usually, rarely, always etc.
3. Adverb of Place Here, there, everywhere, near etc.
4. Adverb of Manner politely, honestly, sincerely, hard etc.
5. Adverb of Affirmation and Negation certainly, obviously, not etc.
6. Adverb of Degree Almost, enough, quite, too etc.
7. Interrogative Adverb when, where, why, how.
8. Relative Adverb where, why, how

Position of Adverb

1. ADVERB OF MANNER — Comes after the Intransitive verb but can come
before the Transitive verb or after the object. (Adverb of Manner
Intransitive verb के फाद आता है रेककन Transitive verb के ऩहरे मा object के फाद आ
सकता है।)
Adverb of Manner is formed by adding ‘ly’ to Adjective of quality.
Adverb of Manner का ननभाथण Adjective of quality भें 'ly' जोड़ने से होता है।

Adverb of Frequency
ADVERB OF FREQUENCY – Adverb of frequency describes how often an action
happens. It comes before the Main Verb and after the Helping Verb. (Adverb of
Frequency Main Verb के ऩहरे Helping Verb के फाद प्रमक्
ु त हैं। मे कामथ की आवनृ त दशाथता है।)
1. I often come to meet him. 4. I sometimes surf.

If we use is, am, are, was and were which are forms of 'be‘, Adverb of Frequency
comes after them, no matter whether it is used as Helping verb or Main verb.

चाहे 'be' Helping verb हो मा Main verb')

Adverb of Time
ADVERB OF TIME – Often works best when placed at the end of the
sentence. (Adverb of time का सवाथधधक उऩमक्
ु त स्थान वाक्म के अंत भें होता है।)

2. He came to meet me yesterday.

Always (हभेशा), Often (अक्सय), Already, Just, Never, Ever, Sometimes (कबी -
कबी), Still (अबी बी), Frequently, Generally (साभान्मतः), Recently (हार-कपरहार),
Usually (अक्सय), Seldom (कबी-कबाय), Hardly (भुजककर से), Rarely (कबी-कबाय) and
Normally (साभान्मतः) are generally placed before the verb they modify.
(उऩयोक्त ददए गमे Adverbs उन verbs के ऩहरे आते हैं जजनको वे modify कयते हैं।)

ADVERB OF DEGREE – Tells us the extent to which something happens.

Adverb of Degree is placed before the Adjective, Adverb or Verb that they
modify. (Adverb of Degree उस Adjective, Adverb अथवा Verb के ऩहरे आता है जजसे वह
qualify कय यहा हो।)

• Adverb of Place comes after the Main verb (in case of Intransitive verb) or the
object (in case of Intransitive verb). (Adverb of Place Main verb मा object के फाद
आता है।)

Adverb of Affirmation & Negation

• The word that declares that something is true or negates the sentence is
called Adverb of Affirmation/ Negation. (जो शब्द ककसी फात को सच साबफत कयने हे तु
जोय दे ता है मा फात को नकायात्भक अथथ दे ता है वह Adverb of Affirmation एवं Negation
कहराता है।)
Examples Not, never, surely, certainly, definitely,
exactly, doubtlessly etc.
• This type of Adverb comes after Helping Verb and before the Main verb.
(मे Helping verb के फाद व Main verb के ऩहरे आते है।)
Examples 1. He will certainly do it. 2. You will definitely succeed.
Note:- 1. She is not coming.
2. He is indeed a fool. (Exceptional case of 'is, am, are, was, were')
