1. GENERAL SCOPE:

This set of documents describes the procedure for cross-hole sonic logging (CSL) pipe filling work,
including relevant materials and equipment to be executed for the construction of the Dhaka-Ashulia
Elevated Expressway Project. Work shall be done according to this method statement in order to achieve
a quality of work pursuant to relevant specifications. The method statement here is applicable to the
Cross-Hole Sonic Logging (CSL) pipe filling works from CH9+500-CH13+500. The contents are
mainly pertaining to construction personnel, machinery, material requirements, quality inspection
standards, technical measures, etc.

The Cross-Hole Sonic Logging (CSL) pipe filling for the section-2 started from Pier no 314 to Pier no
419 includes Fa, Fb, Ua, Ub, E3a, E3b and Toll Plaza.
2. SPECIFICATIONS AND REFERENCE DOCUMENTS:
Relevant specifications are contained in the contract specification as per the following:
a. AASTHO M85/ ASTM C 150: Cement.
b. AASTHO T26: Water.
3. MATERIALS:
The materials to be utilized for pier column construction are as follows:
a. Cement.
b. Water.
c. Admixture.
d. Hose pipe-20 mm dia and 50-60 m. length.

4. RESOURCE, EQUIPMENT AND FACILITIES:

For Cross Hole Sonic Logging (CSL) pipe filling, the CSL pipe shall be prepared as per requirements. In
addition, the Cross-Hole Sonic Logging (CSL) pipe filling equipment as follows:
a) Grouting Pump.
b) Mixer Tank.
c) Stirrers.
d) Miscellaneous tools.
5. WORK PROCEDURE:
5.1. Execution:
a) The grouting shall start after the completion of the sonic logging test and confirmation from
ERA.
b) Cleaning out each sonic tube by pump with clean water shall be done before the start of any
grouting work.
c) The grouting material shall be filled and injected into the sonic logging pipe in one continuous
operation from tip to cut-off elevation and let overflow until good materials are visible by the
grouting pump.
5.2. Control:
5.2.1. Material and Tools:
a) The quality of the supplied materials and tools shall be approved.
b) Sampling at the site for the conformity test shall be taken as per ASTM standards.
c) Any qualification tests, if required, will be performed before the commencement of the
work.
d) The certificates of the corresponding materials shall be available for reference as
required.
e) All pressure gauges and discharge meters shall be checked prior to the commencement
of the works.
5.2.2. Grouting Mixing:
Typical grout mixture consists of cement, water, admixture, as follow:
Water 20 litters
Cement 50 kg
Non-Shring Admixture 0.5 kg
The control of the grout mix will be carried out by means of the following tests performed at
the plant area under control of the responsible person.
The property of cement grouting will be used to prepare the cement grouting.
Density 1.50-1.60 g/ml
Viscosity ≤ 30 sec /ASTM-C939
Compressive Strength ≥ 30 Mpa/≥6ksi (after 28 days)-ASTM C 942.

6. SAFETY PROVISIONS:
a) All works will be undertaken in accordance with this Method Statement and the relevant safety
procedure of the Project Management Plan and Safety Management Plan.
b) All Operative shall be made aware of the HSE requirement. Appropriate Personal Protective
Equipment’s (PPE) shall be available and worn by all operatives. All non-motorized equipment’s
and tools will be mechanically lifted into the work area. Only trained and skill operatives shall be
involved in these activities.
c) All staff and operatives entering the construction site areas shall be inducted on accordance with
the site safely plan.
d) All operative being outdoors must stop working during heavy raining and lightning periods.
e) Defective equipment shall be properly rectified or not to be used.
f) The grouting works should be carried out under the supervising of professional technologist.
g) Strictly comply with the operating instructions of all equipment when operating. Any illegal
operation is not allowed.
7. ENVIRONMENTAL PROVISION:
The JTEG will take all necessary mitigation measures for environmental protection. The air quality,
water quality, noise, vibration, and waste management will comply according to SEMP and as per
contract requirements. The relevant equipment, permission and cost for all mitigation measures will be
the Subcontractor’s responsibility. The subcontractor will undertake the environmental monitoring
according to the requirement with the Contractor direction. The subcontractor has mentioned the
monitoring plan including the monitoring methods. In this part, we will see the details of managing
different environmental issues apart from the mitigation measures detailed.
 The pressure hose shall be used for grouting to avoid environment pollution due to grouting pipe
explosion when grouting.
 It is not allowed to arbitrarily discard the waste grouting, and which shall be stored properly
