ENT 6000 MODULE 1 ASSIGNMENT DEVELOPING PERSONAL MINDSET BRAND

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT BRAND FILE

1. Entrepreneurial Mindset Self Assessment

A). My General Profile Score: 176

My areas of strength are as follows:

a) Aptitudes: I scored 72 out of 80, which is above the average score of

67. Although this score is 8 points below the maximum, it is 5 points

above the average. This means that I have the aptitudes that

predispose me to entrepreneurship

b) Need for achievement: My score is 19 out of a maximum score of 20,

which is above the average score of 17.

c) The lure of power/control: score of 18 out of a maximum score of 20.

Although this score is just one point above the average score of 17,

it is only two points below the maximum score.

d) Need for challenge/ambition: score of 18 out of maximum score of

20. It is two points above and two points below the average and the

maximum scores, respectively.

e) Perseverance/determination: score of 15 out of a maximum score of

16, and against the average score of 14. It is one point apart from

both the average and the maximum score. I recognise my ability to

persevere in the face of challenges, which is beneficial for

entrepreneurship.

f) Creativity and imagination: score of 23 out of a maximum of 24 and

above the average score of 21. I consider this my strength and an

asset for an entrepreneurial journey.

My weaknesses revealed are:

a) My motivation: score of 66 is ten points below the maximum score of

76. Needs deliberate change of mindset.

b) My attitudes: score of 38 is one point above the average score of 37

but six points below the maximum score of 44. It requires

improvement.

c) Self–sufficiency/freedom: score of 11 is below the average score of

12 and five points below the maximum score of 16.

d) Self–confidence/enthusiasm: score of 14 is one point above the

average score of 13, while it is two points below the maximum score.

e) Tolerance towards ambiguity/resistance to stress: score of 20 is four

points below the maximum score of 24 and one point above the

average score of 19. This is marginal and needs improvement.

f) A belief in the ability to influence destiny: score of 21 is three points

below the maximum score of 24 and one point above the average

score of 20. This is borderline and needs improvement.

g) Action oriented: score of 17 is precisely the same as the average

score and three points below the maximum score of 20. Requires

conscious improvement.

The areas of weakness identified above are key to successful

entrepreneurship and will be deliberately addressed.

B). Risk Tolerance Assessment

General Profile Score: 170

A review of the various rating parameters shows that my risk tolerance

assessment score is about average. Hence, there is a need for deliberate

improvement to succeed as an entrepreneur.

Significant areas requiring improvement are:

a) Motivations: They are the factors that determine behaviour and

induce someone to act.

b) Attitudes: Perceptions, feelings and judgements we make and the

ways that we look at things.

c) Need for achievement/success: The desire to progress, excel and

perform. Individuals who enjoy setting goals and receiving feedback.

Strong desire to compete.

d) Lure of power/control: The desire to have power and control, to lead

and influence others.

Entrepreneurship is all about taking calculated risks to achieve a desired

outcome. Therefore, successful entrepreneurs are generally self–motivated

and optimistic individuals who are willing to take risks, even in the face of

ambiguity and uncertainty. They are willing to proceed with their beliefs

and ready to alter their course of action as events unfold.

C. Creativity Score: 68

Without knowing the maximum score obtainable, it is difficult to assert if a

score of 68 is good or bad. However, assuming that the maximum score is

100, I think that a score of 68 is marginally above average and will require

improvement.

D. Synthesis

A combination of all the scores indicates that my entrepreneurial mindset

remains at an average level. I will be seeking help to improve it as we

progress through this course significantly. Deliberate efforts will also be

made to reinforce the areas of strength that have been highlighted.

I acknowledge that my educational and professional background in

accounting and finance may have contributed significantly to my low score

in tolerance towards ambiguity. To transition from a strictly rule-based life,

I will seek assistance from some of the successful entrepreneurs that I

know for mentorship. I will also join the local chamber of commerce in my

area and identify the section that deals with new startups and aspiring

entrepreneurs for mentorship and coaching. In addition, business schools

offer executive education programs, such as the Owner–Manager

Programme (OMP) and the Enterprise Development Certificate course.

These programmes bring together entrepreneurs at different stages of their

enterprise to learn through life case studies.

I hope to be among the top third percentile in all dimensions within 12

months from now.
