The Faith That Overcomes The World
The Faith That Overcomes The World
The author Pastor Marcelo Solis, graduated from the University of Costa Rica.
In the first Epistle of John, chapter 5, verses 1 to 5, it says: "The faith that overcomes
to the world", and this is how this meditation is set. Very soon Jesus will come to find us in
glory and majesty and will he find faith on the earth?
See what great love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God.
God! And we are! This is why the world does not know us, because it does not know him.
1 John 3:18-22: "My children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth."
Truth. In this we know that we are of the truth, and we assure our heart before Him.
But if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.
things. Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have full confidence before God; and everything
whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him
pleasure.
1 John 4:7-8: "Beloved, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Whoever..."
but he who has been born of God knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
love.
1 John 4:19-20: "We love him, because he first loved us. If anyone says: 'I love God,' and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?"
I love God, and hates his brother, is a liar. For he who does not love his brother...
He who sees cannot love God whom he does not see.
Let us thank the Lord because He loved us first, because He allowed Jesus Christ to leave the
glorious and came to die for each one of us sinners to save us, being
we unworthy of such divine mercy. Let us give thanks every day for the little or much
that God has given us and because we have a Holy, faithful, and true Father.
Let us read Romans 1:21: "Because although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor did they...
they gave thanks; before they became confused in vain reasoning, and their foolish heart
darkening.
Let's go back to 1 John 5, let's read the first 5 verses (...) and now, let's pause longer.
specifically in verse 4. It says there: 'Because everyone born of God overcomes the world.'
world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world, our faith. Let's look at some points
key to this verse for understanding it in a broader way.
Whoever is born of God? Verse 1 says that everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is
born of God. (Galatians 5:24, 1 John 2:4-6).
What is faith? (first non-biblical answers, that is, meanings, synonyms, participation)
from the congregation) - trust, credulity, fidelity, obedience, security. (Hebrews 11:1).
In whom should we have faith? (Mark 11:22, 1 Corinthians 15:14, Ephesians 3:11-12).
What is the victory? Let's go to the book of Revelation 2:7½, from "[...] To the one who
Then I will give him to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.
Read Revelation 2:11½ "[…] The one who overcomes will not be harmed by the second death."
Read Revelation 2:17 ½ "[…] To the one who conquers, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will give him a white stone
white, And in it written a new name, that no one knows except the one who receives it.
Read Revelation 2:26-28 "To the one who conquers and keeps my works until the end, I will give authority over...
the nations. He will rule them with a rod of iron, and they will be broken like a clay vessel, just as I
I received authority from my Father. And I will also give him the Morning Star.
Read Revelation 3:5 'The one who conquers will be clothed in white garments. I will never erase his name from the
Book of Life, and I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels.
Read Revelation 3:12 'To the one who conquers, I will make him a pillar in the sanctuary of my God, and he will never go out again.'
he will go outside. I will write about him the Name of my God - the name of the city of my God, the
new Jerusalem, which descends from heaven sent by my God-, and my new Name.
Read Revelation 3:21 'To the one who overcomes, I will grant to sit with me on my throne; just as I have...'
victorious and I have sat with my Father on his throne.” Amen!
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, let us rethink.
then this verse, expanding it in light of the Bible itself through the other paragraphs
because everyone who has crucified the flesh with its passions and desires,
those who keep the commandments of God, those who walk and live as Christ walked and lived
When he was on this Earth, they overcome the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the
world, our full trust, credulity, faithfulness, obedience, and security in God despite
that we do not see it, but we are convinced that it exists, and we patiently await it.
I believe that now we have perfectly understood the broad meaning of this verse.
The Christian life is a life of constant communion with the Father and of genuine faith.
manifested in our complete trust in Him and His will.
Read Isaiah 49:8-10 'Thus says the Lord: In an acceptable time I have heard you, in the day of salvation I have...
I helped. I will keep you, and I will give you as a covenant to the people, so that you may restore the nation, so that
from desolate inheritances; "so that you may say to the prisoners: 'Come out', and to those who are in
Manifest yourselves. On the roads they will be grazed, and on all the peaks they will have their
pastures. They will not hunger or thirst, nor will the heat or the sun afflict them. For the quetene
their compassion will guide them, and will lead them to springs of water.
The first is biblical faith, which we have already talked about a little earlier, and which is a faith
based on trust in a higher power, in an external agent, foreign to ourselves;
that is to say, faith in God.
The second is the faith that manifests itself daily in the world, faith in oneself, faith in a
football team, faith in a politician or in a person, faith in a desired lottery number
he is going to come out, faith that the stock market will rise, faith that the country will improve, faith in the photo
of a singer or of a dead human being.
And from this faith come phrases so used by people like 'if you believe, you can', 'just trust'
it's the same
Everything is going to be fine, don't think negative things because you attract the bad.
Of course, it is unnecessary to clarify that these phrases should not exist in the mouth of a
Cristiano. I'm not saying that it's bad to think positively or have a positive attitude.
facing life and the circumstances we have to live. As children of God, the Bible tells us
exhort: "always be joyful." But it is very different to place our trust, whether
in ourselves, in another person, or even in an object, rather than placing it in the Father of the
Lights of whom all wisdom and goodness comes from.
The Bible also denounces that "cursed is the man who trusts in man." Our
positive mental attitude gains permanent value only when it results from knowledge of
authentic God (John 17:3), of His truth (John 8:31-32) and of the Holy Spirit (John
14:16-17 and John 16:7-8.
And what is the first thing that the Spirit shows us? Definitely something very negative, for it shows us...
it says that we are sinners, unjust, and that we will be judged for both our actions and for
our decisions. We are corrupted and degraded by sin, we have a
innate tendency to do wrong and 'there is none righteous, not even one.'
However, and despite not being able to find the solution to our problems within ourselves
God has provided us the wonderful possibility of reconciling with Him in Jesus Christ.
through what we know as repentance.
Get up and go to your Father. He will come out to meet you from very far away. If you repent, a
just one step towards Him, He will hasten to surround you with His arms of infinite love. His ear is
open to the heart of the contrite soul. He knows the first effort of the heart to reach Him.
Never is a prayer offered, even stammered; never is a tear shed, even in secret.
A sincere desire, no matter how weak, to reach God is never caressed without the Spirit of
God go to meet him. Even before the prayer is pronounced, or the longing of
heart be made known, the grace of Christ meets the grace that is at work
in the human soul." (Words of Life from the Great Master, Ellen White).
Read Psalm 139:23-24 'Search me, oh God, and know my heart; test me, and know my thoughts.'
thoughts. Look if I am on the wrong path, and guide me on the eternal path.
Read Romans 8:35, 38, and 39: "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation or
anguish? Persecution or hunger? Nakedness, danger or sword? That’s why I am sure that
neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor what is to come, neither height nor
neither depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ
Jesus our Lord.
The contrast between the world that has not wanted to know God and the one that does know Him is abyssal.
It is impossible to reconcile; therefore, one and the other generate a type of different faith. In the case
from biblical faith, this is a gift from God given to his children through the Holy Spirit, whose author and
the consumer is Jesus Christ and is strengthened through the study of the Word of God and the
preaching of the Scriptures in our own life. This conclusion allows us to move from what
negatives that we are by nature to the positives that we can become when
we surrender our sinful will and our selves at the Feet of Jesus Christ, and we allow
that His will and His plans manifest in our life by opening our hearts and allowing Him to
Holy Spirit works in us both to will and to do.
By manifesting complete faith and trust in God, we will overcome the world even when the
test, temptation, suffering, loneliness, sadness, or illness may arise
in front of us. "For we know that all things work together for good for those who love God.
Well, and this is for those who have been called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28).
Surely, this morning, we will have many things to thank God for, and many others
of which we regret. There is no more time, today is the time to reconsecrate our
lives to the Almighty because He who hears in secret will reward you in public and
He will erase all your confessed sins and will never bring them to memory again. Let's take a moment.
moments to pray individually and silently.
May God bless you and keep you, may He make His face shine upon you and give you peace.
I wish for each one of those present on this day. Amen.
