1. Comprehension ( 2 0 marks)
1. One should be alarmed when they do not have at least one bowel movement a
day. This is because bowel movement is the basis of one’s health, so if one does
not experience bowel movement daily, he/she may be on their way to disease.
2. Man is increasingly consuming refined sugar, hormone and antibiotics filled
meats, white flour. This violates his body and makes it more likely to suffer from
colon cancer which is a leading cause of death.
3. A toxic bowel is a potentially fertile breeding ground for terrible disease. If one’s
body remains exposed to purifying good in the intestines, one stands a higher
chance/risk of developing disease.
4. Mucoid layers weaken the body and lead to loss of vitality, bad health, candida
and poor skin condition.
5. Practices that help to restore immune system
- Exercises
- Fresh air
- Positive attitude towards life
- Sunshine
6. If one starts with any other organ e.g. liver, blood, lymph, the excreted toxins may
get recycled into the body with disastrous results.

2. EXTRACT (25 marks)


a) - Bembe implies that with his present health conditions, he would not
survive if he got imprisoned.
- The main reason was the fact that he was diabetic.

- Benbe alleges that his stomach has been running ever since the Samaritan
App was activated.
b) - Bembe is the proprietor of Madingo Golf Club and it is obvious that such
a hotel is beyond his means and to make it even worse, the hotel is built on
public land.
- The inspector also owns an adjacent home just next to the hotel which
again apart from being built on public land, is also beyond his means.
- Inspector Bembe was also the leader of Ghettoboyz, which is a criminal
gang.
- The pre mentioned illegally owned property were put up using money
collected from motorists every day.
- It also alleged that inspector Bembe has transformed the Municipal
Police Force into a personal outfit for collecting bribes from the guilty and
innocent alike.
- Under his command, the officers wake up not to work but to collect bribes
on behalf of their bosses and themselves.

c) - Nicole was charged with disobeying lawful authority and stealing the
school generator.
- It was also alleged that the signal of her phone had been traced at a scene
of murder.
- Word of her arrest and subjection to trial spread like bushfire.
- a mob turned out at the court including touts, hawkers, students, women
and men of all walks of life.
- Justice Jaden heard the case.
- The thugs who had been sent to steal the generator failed to do so.
- The judge dismissed her for lack of evidence.

d) Fearful; Tense; Anxious, gloomy

e) - Inspector Bembe had that morning stepped on one of his shoe laces , got
entangled and had fallen very badly.
- Bembe had injured his knees, elbows and head.
- In the meanwhile, his bosses had summoned him to the headquarters in the
capital to explain Nicole’s arrest.
- Bembe is now contemplating fleeing into the mountains and hiding in a
café.
f) - The inspector had assigned the police and the red eagle gang to the
meeting place.
- The intended victims vacated the municipal headquarters.
- The venue of the meeting remained deserted the whole day.
- From intelligence reports, the group led by Ramdaye was said to be
regrouping.
- The plan was to have a massive political rally at Atobold stadium the
following Wednesday.
g) i) - I have no more doubt that these are my last days, have I?

- She was charged with disobeying authority and stealing the school
generator.
- I tried talking to her, but she became/was very stubborn, just as
you said.

3. POETRY (20 marks)


1. The persona in this poem is the poet. He writes about love from his own stand
point.
2. The persona’s altitude towards love is that it is a powerful force, irresistible to
people in it. He views it as universal experience that all and sundry go through at
one time or the other. He thinks it is a good thing.
3. The tone of the poem is ridiculous. The poet wonders at the symptoms of love
since not many can reveal them expect to their opposite sex or lover.
4. - Simile - love is a bright stain on the vision.
- Par thesis -stanza 2-are omens and night mares-listening to the knock.
- Rhetorical questions-stanza 4-could you endure such pain………?
- Comparison and contrasting /paradoxical-stanza 1-all the figures of the
speech help the poet to bring out his thoughts in an artistic way.
5. The mood of the poem is critical, ridiculous and analytical. The poet looks at the
symptoms of true love critically and wonders why people do what they do when
they are in love.
6. The rhetorical question is: could you endure such pain at any hand but hers?
It is used to show that the symptoms of love as shown in the poem are
overbearing on the lovers. That it takes pain to love.

4. GRAMMAR (15 marks)
