Introduction
• Typhoid Fever is an acute infectious disease
caused by Salmonella typhi.
• Common in areas with poor sanitation.
• Presents with prolonged fever, abdominal
symptoms, and systemic involvement.
• Homoeopathy offers a safe, individualized
treatment approach.
Etiology and Pathogenesis
• Causative Agent: Salmonella typhi
• Transmission: Feco-oral route
• Incubation Period: 7–14 days
• Pathophysiology:
• - Bacteria enter intestines → bloodstream →
lymphatics
• - Peyer’s patches inflammation → ulceration
• - Systemic toxemia and immune response
Clinical Features
• • Step-ladder type fever
• • Headache
• • Abdominal pain, distension
• • Diarrhea or constipation
• • Rose spots on abdomen
• • Splenomegaly, hepatomegaly
• • Relative bradycardia (Faget sign)
Diagnosis
• • Blood Culture: Best in first week
• • Widal Test: Detects antibodies (2nd week)
• • CBC: Leukopenia, relative lymphocytosis
• • Stool/Urine culture in later stages
Conventional vs. Homoeopathic
Approach
• Conventional:
• - Pathogen-oriented
• - Antibiotics
• - Side effects common
• - Possible recurrence
• Homoeopathic:
• - Individual-oriented
• - Potentized remedies
Homoeopathic Management
• Acute Phase Remedies:
• • Baptisia: Delirium, stupor
• • Arsenicum alb: Restlessness, prostration
• • Gelsemium: Dullness, trembling
• • Bryonia: Dryness, thirst, motion aggravates
• • Rhus tox: Restlessness, aches relieved by
motion
• Remedy selection: Based on totality,
constitution, modalities
Miasmatic Background
• Typhoid fever reflects a complex miasmatic
mix:
• • Psora: Weakness of vitality
• • Sycotic: Inflammation, glandular
involvement
• • Syphilitic: Ulceration, systemic toxemia
Miasmatic Approach to Treatment
• Acute Phase: Symptom relief
• Intercurrent Nosodes:
• • Typhoidinum – For chronic susceptibility
• Anti-miasmatic Remedies:
• • Psorinum, Medorrhinum, Syphilinum
• Role: Prevent relapse, remove miasmatic
blocks, restore health
Prevention and General Measures
• • Sanitation & hygiene
• • Boiled/filtered drinking water
• • Proper sewage disposal
• • Homoeoprophylaxis (e.g., Typhoidinum 200
in epidemics – controversial)
Summary
• • Typhoid is a systemic infection with variable
presentations.
• • Homoeopathy treats the whole person.
• • Miasmatic understanding essential in
chronic or relapsing cases.
• • Individualized remedy = best results.
