[edit]Hi all
Notified participants of WikiProject Authority control! I've just noticed that the actual formatter URL (https://viaf.org/processed/EGAXA%7Cvtls$1), which is of course good for cases like https://viaf.org/processed/EGAXA%7Cvtls001094942, probably needs to be changed, because it makes impossible to register IDs such as https://viaf.org/processed/EGAXA%7CBalis848490215, where "vtls" doesn't appear. Considering the similar case of Slovak National Library (VIAF) ID (P7700), which hasn't "vtls" in its formatter URL, I would consider removing "vtls" from the formatter URL and editing all the existent values of the property. Objections? Thank you all, --Epìdosis 12:58, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
- Support @Epìdosis: sounds good to me. Do you know why it is "vtls" sometimes and "alis" other times, or what these things signify? Iwan.Aucamp (talk) 14:41, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Iwan.Aucamp: Honestly I don't know the reason for the alternation of "vtls" and "Balis". --Epìdosis 15:07, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
- Support Well, why not. The BA does currently not offer a direct access to their authority data. Balis is their online catalog [1]. My guess is that they first uploaded their VTLS data and later switched over to balis IDs. --Sotho Tal Ker (talk) 21:32, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Epìdosis: You are right and that's an oversight on my side. Even the first 20 have 3 "Balis" links. (Was about to ask "who the fuck is Balis and what has he to do with Strabo" but saw the answer above). Fixed formatter, regex, and "autofix" (which caters to the most common case with "vtls"). Any volunteer to fix the values and prepend "vtls"? --Vladimir Alexiev (talk) 06:30, 28 May 2020 (UTC)

- @Iwan.Aucamp, Sotho Tal Ker, Vladimir Alexiev: Here the batch: 4200 substitutions. --Epìdosis 08:54, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Vladimir Alexiev: Just finished. However, I've noticed that the fact that "vtls" is always followed by 9 numbers is unfortunately false (e.g. Pythagoras (Q10261), Paul Veyne (Q739537), 129228), John Cassian (Q313795), Cyril of Jerusalem (Q298654)) and that some values seem to be outdated (e.g. "vtls000891217" in Fyodor Dostoyevsky (Q991) or "vtls001068508" in Ivan Bunin (Q46602), "vtls000808093" in Alexander the Great (Q8409)), so I might have added some false/obsolete values. --Epìdosis 08:46, 29 May 2020 (UTC)
