Only Fools and Horses, the legendary British sitcom created by John Sullivan, remains a timeless comedy gem. First hitting screens in 1981, it revolves around the Trotter brothers, Del Boy and Rodney, as they chase dreams of striking it rich through hilariously ill-fated schemes. Living in Peckham, South London, the duo operates their market trading business out of a beaten-up yellow Reliant Regal three-wheeler van.
Del Boy, the older sibling, is a cheeky, quick-witted wheeler-dealer with grand ideas of becoming a millionaire. Rodney, on the other hand, is more level-headed and forever frustrated by his brother’s far-fetched plans.

The show isn’t just about laughs, it’s about family, friendship, and everyday struggles. Alongside Del and Rodney are unforgettable characters like their Grandad, and quirky friends including Trigger, Boycie, and Denzil. From slapstick comedy moments to touching emotional scenes, the series beautifully balanced humor and heart.

Kate Beckinsale shared a charged and lengthy post on Instagram Thursday morning in response to what she described as a “horribly cold email” from BAFTA about the death of her stepfather, TV director Roy Battersby.
Shared just as this year’s BAFTA film awards were announced, Beckinsale said in the post that despite Battersby’s lengthy list of credits and honors for his work on the small screen, including a BAFTA for lifetime achievement, the awards body told her they “could not guarantee he would be included in their ‘in memoriam tribute’” to late industry members during this year’s awards shows.
“So a man dead less than a week somehow has to audition in front of a committee after a decades-long career (in which he has been awarded from said organization the highest accolade they have ) to decide If his death is worth mentioning,” Beckinsale said in the post,...

Gwyneth Powell, who starred in the BBC’s long-running kids drama series Grange Hill as Bridget McClusky has died aged 76, her agent confirmed Monday (12 September).
Her representative, Matthew Lacey, said in a statement on behalf of the family that the actor died after “complications following a major operation for a perforated colon”.
Per the BBC, he added that she “passed away peacefully” with her husband, actor Alan Leith, and niece beside her last Thursday (8 September).
“Gwyneth will be greatly missed by her adoring family and friends along with her many fans from multiple TV appearances,” he added.
Powell played Mrs McClusky, arguably Grange Hill School’s best-known head teacher, for eleven series between 1981 to 1991.
“At first, Mrs McClusky was written as a ‘twin set and pearls’ role, but I was quite young at the time and didn’t want to play it like that,” she told the BBC in 2008.

In the nearly seven-decade history of the Primetime Emmys, there have only been five instances of a series netting three Best Comedy Supporting Actress nominations in the same year. This precedent was established in 2004 by “Sex and the City” ladies Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon and was then emulated in 2017, 2018 and 2021 by various trios from “Saturday Night Live.” This year, Sarah Niles, Juno Temple and Hannah Waddingham of “Ted Lasso” added their names to the list. The latter two previously vied for the 2021 prize, which went to Waddingham, while Niles stands as the only Emmy newcomer in the group.
Niles joined the cast of “Ted Lasso” in its second season, which originally streamed on Apple TV+ from July to October 2021. Her character, sports psychologist Dr. Sharon Fieldstone, was hired during the season premiere to help the AFC Richmond team out of a collective funk. Her episode submission, “Headspace,...

Six years after Michael Keaton stepped down as the caped crusader and transitioned into a successful career as a dramatic lead in films like "Much Ado About Nothing," "Multiplicity," and "Jackie Brown," Keaton also starred in the heartwarming Christmas film, "Jack Frost." In this wildly depressing family fantasy film, Keaton plays a would-be rockstar named, you guessed it, Jack Frost, who tragically dies in a car accident on the drive home to spend Christmas with his family. Luckily, he's also the proud owner of a magic harmonica that resurrects his spirit into the body of a snowman, like the holly jolly version...

Exclusive: Adrian Dunbar has become a household name in the UK thanks to his gruff performance as Superintendent Ted Hastings in hit BBC series Line Of Duty. Now, the Irish actor is turning his hand to another detective role — this time for ITV.
Dunbar will headline Ridley, a series in which he will play retiring Detective Inspector Alex Ridley, who is lured back into service as a consultant detective when his former protégée, Carol Farman, needs help cracking a complex murder case.
Penned by Vera and Father Brown writer Paul Matthew Thompson, ITV hopes Ridley can join the ranks of its detective icons, including Brenda Blethyn’s very own Vera Stanhope, David Jason’s A Touch of Frost, and John Thaw’s Inspector Morse.
Like some of these cherished dramas, Ridley’s episodes will play out over two-hour episodes, with All3Media-backed West Road Pictures making an initial season of four.

Frank Zappa, who died in 1993, is one of the least understood artists of the 20th Century, which is ironic because he was also the most prolific. Introduced to the world as a bicycle-playing artiste concrète sitting naked on a toilet, he was a harmonic genius who experimented with sonic assault weapons and visual subversions. Frank Zappa was the Nikola Tesla of music. Alex Winter’s documentary Zappa, which is now available to watch in the UK and Ireland on Altitude.film, clarifies many of the contradictions by highlighting Zappa’s primary focus. The Mothers of Invention bandleader was a composer.
As such, Frank was also a cultural ambassador, a hero of free expression, a hysterical satirist, and a guitar virtuoso. He was celebrated in the Czech Republic after the Velvet Revolution, and castigated by parental control mongers in America. But even Frank knew his rep enough to drop an album...

HBO Max is set to enter into its second month of existence. And you know what that means: it’s Christmas in July!
HBO Max’s list of new releases for July 2020 is highlighted by one prominent Christmas movie: last year’s Emilia Clarke-starring Last Christmas. But the real cause for Christmas in July is all the exciting animated DC content coming our way on the first of the month. July 1 sees the arrival of just about every animated Batman project ever created. July 1 also features the arrival of just about every Justice League animated series ever created as well.
If that weren’t enough, July 1 is also when every live-action Superman movie (save for Man of Steel) makes it streaming debut. July is starting to look like a month where HBO Max establishes its real potential and geek culture bonafides…despite an at-times difficult rollout.

When HBO Max launched last month, DC fans hoped it would be the premiere place to go to watch all their favorite DC content. While the streaming service did have an impressive array of films and TV shows available on launch, there were a lot of notable missing titles, too, due to pre-existing licenses getting in the way. As time goes on, though, more DC properties will end up on the site. Case in point: this July will see a whole heap of superhero content go up on HBO Max.

In a manner similar to what happens with the television schedules, the streaming services suddenly go quiet in the summer. For true cinema fans this is pretty good news because the art house stuff comes along as well as some of the better catalogue titles that might have appeared elsewhere before.
It will probably be September before any subscription winning blockbusters are added again but the smart money is on one of the big ones adding The Avengers and (fingers crossed) the last season of Breaking Bad.
By the time you read this, the new Netflix exclusive series Orange is the New Black from the creator of Weeds, will be available on Netflix. Early word is that it’s actually the best Netflix exclusive title so far, which is good news after the horrendous Hemlock Grove. I will weigh in with an opinion next month.

Su Pollard has led the tributes to the late actor Paul Shane.
Shane died yesterday (May 16) at the age of 72, after a short illness.
Pollard starred opposite Shane in the sitcoms Hi-de-Hi! and You Rang, M'Lord?, for which they were both perhaps most well-known.
The pair remained close friends throughout Shane's life, and she visited him a few days before his passing.
"I just remember the great fun we had, always laughing, every single day," Pollard told BBC Breakfast.
"He would never be the one to push himself forward, but as soon as he was Ted Bovis [in Hi-de-Hi!], he came into his own. There was very definitely two sides to him, but [they were] equally lovely."
Ricky Gervais also paid tribute to Shane on Twitter, calling him an "old school Britcom hero".
Austin Powers star Mike Myers wrote: "Rip Paul Shane. Great British Comic, actor and talent. Rest in peace sir."

Grange Hill. The only school kids ever seemed to be interested in. Us included…
At your school, did anyone die in the swimming pool? Did you have to contend with vicious bullies (and we’re talking about the teachers!)? Did everyone have London accents coarse enough to strip the paint off the classroom doors? Yes? Flippin’ ’eck, you must have gone to Grange Hill!
If you grew up in the 1980s but don’t have a fondness for Grange Hill, there’s probably only one explanation: you were banned from watching it. Yep, for those of us who could get away with it, this rites-of-passage drama series about the pupils of a north-London comprehensive was must-see television, but by parents and teachers it was generally despised. It all started in 1978, and continues to this day (just about), but its golden age was undoubtedly the 1980s.

British audiences love a quality crime thriller series to immerse themselves into. To celebrate the release of ITV’s Crime Thriller DVD Collection (available now) and the upcoming ITV3 Crime Thriller Awards on October 11th, we have compiled a list of some of Britain’s best-loved crime thriller shows, complete with the iconic, sleuth characters that have since formed legacies of their own.
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
Jeremy Brett’s portrayal of the daring detective with his faithful sidekick, Dr. Watson, remains one of the most popular portrayals despite the numerous reimaginings of the infamous and ingenious super sleuth. Before Brett’s tragic death in 1995, he ignited new energy into the role of Sherlock Holmes that British audiences fell in love with, portraying one of the truest screen adaptations of the many Holmes tales. The answer to whether Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are incomparable to any other pair of detectives is elementary!

Sky 1 HD are continuing to announce new UK productions and their second of the day is a two-hour comedy crime drama titled A Touch of Cloth which promises to be ‘a spoof of every British crime drama made in the last decade.’ We would imagine most obviously A Touch of Frost but no doubt Taggart, Rebus, Silent Witness…. all them shows that send people to sleep and will be like a U.K. version of Police Squad.
Written by Charlie Brooker (Dead Set) and Daniel Maier (Harry Hill’s TV Burp) the one-off show will star John Hannah as the awesomely named Dci Jack Cloth a “maverick, heavy drinking loner who has thrown himself into his work following the mysterious death of his wife”, a role that he has probably played straight a few times in his career, alongside the “plucky no-nonsese” female partner DC Anne Oldman (Suranne Jones).

The upcoming 23rd James Bond movie may still be untitled (let’s be honest, it’ll have some ridiculous name anyway, probably including the worlds ‘day’, ‘die’ and ‘gold’ in there somewhere) but some very exciting details from the movie have already emerged, not least the latest news on Friday that Pirates of the Caribbean actress Naomie Harris is being lined up to play Miss Moneypenny, a return for the iconic character who has so far gone unfeatured in the Daniel Craig movies.
With Moneypenny back at MI6, many have already presumed that a return for everyone’s favourite grouchy, gadget God – Q, may also be on the cards, another long-time Bond cornerstone who in the 2006 reboot was dismissed as being old hack. News has come through from Deadline that frequent Scorsese/DiCaprio collaborator Graham King is set to produce a feature adaptation of the 2009 UK miniseries Unforgiven. British readers who may not be aware of this programme may be interested to know that the original version was screened on ITV.
Whatever next? A Hollywood remake of A Touch of Frost starring Al Pacino?
The miniseries was a three-part drama about a woman newly released from prison after serving 15 years for murder and attempting to re-adjust to life outside, while avoiding the two sons of one of her victims who are planning their revenge.
I didn’t see this when it was broadcast, but there must be the potential to do something interesting here as The Usual Suspects scribe, Christopher McQuarrie (who was one of the writers on the upcoming Jolie and Johnny Depp thriller The Tourist) has been tapped to write this version.

Staff on the ITV drama, who had been told to find more paperwork to use during an office scene, brought in what they thought was a box of old administration, only to discover that the documents contained a secret list of Forsyth's past expenses, says The Sun. The file, which apparently shows Forsyth's claims during his time as the host on ITV's The Price Is Right, is believed to have been identified by Inspector Frost actor David Jason. A source said: "Top brass did not see the funny side and went berserk. They demanded an inquiry into how on earth the top-secret (more)...

Sir David Jason has admitted that he was sad about the end of A Touch Of Frost. Speaking to the Daily Mail, the actor revealed that he had decided to leave the programme's wrap party early because he felt emotional. "I had a quiet word with my driver and told him I just wanted to slip away from the party, which I did without any fuss or bother," he explained. "It wasn't the way I wanted things to end but I was exhausted, sad and deflated. I didn't want to say goodbye to Frost. But don't misunderstand me - I knew I had to. "Frost had simply grown too old. TV allows you a certain amount of freedom and dramatic licence and we had never pretended (more)...
