The 1st ed., with the plates for the most part engraved by Hondius. However, plates 8, 10, 19, and 21 (v. 2) are signed: B.D. (or D.B.?) sculp. Most of the plates whose design is credited are after Vredeman de Vries, except no. 14 (v. 2), which is signed: P.V. inu. H︠h︡ondius sculp., and the ports. of Maurice, Prince of Orange (v. 1, p. [3]) and of Vredeman de Vries (v. 1, p. [5]), which Hondius both drew and engraved. These last are dated 1599 and 1604 respectively. For the problematical identity of B.D., cf. Mielke
