(intro/explanation)
The County Project is a (unfinished) hobby of mine with the simple goal of documenting
United States Presidential Elections by county. For election analyists or
just political junkies, the ability to view trends in smaller areas is critical to understanding
how certain groups vote the way they do. While many databases exist, such as
David Leip's, OurCampaigns, and Geoelections, they are often behind paywalls. Even
OurCampaigns, arguably the best election database currently existing, is incomplete.
Furthermore, it often fails to cite sources or relies entirely on a single source. As a 2025
update, I would like to add that I apologize for any inconsistencies, this is a project that
I have spent 5 years writing detailed notes for, and inevitably my stylistic and academic
methods have changed over that time. I would love to convert this data into a
website of some kind, but I lack any real programming or web design knowledge. If any
kind souls out there on the internet would be willing to offer a hand, I can be reached at
[email protected]. If you have any sources/data for elections I lack or corrections
my email is always open.

(guide/how to use)
If you want *all* historic data for a certain county, see the state sheets on the right.
If you want copy-pastable tables of county returns sorted by year, see the year
sections of this main sheet.

Elections are grouped by decade; there are simply so many counties that google sheets
lags severely if i attempted to put every election in one sheet. Additionally, there is a
sheet with all my sources meticulously documented. Several other sheets are mostly for
my own benefit, such as one with links to all 50 states' secretary of state or other election
documenting page. The rest of these can be largely ignored as they're just work spaces
to do things like compare conflicting newspaper sources.

Each county is assigned a # in alphabetical order by state, begining with Autaga county
Alabama and ending with Washakie county Wyoming. This is to make the sheets more
easily sortable. Provided are the raw votes and automatic
calculation to percents and margins.

Any candidate who receives greater than 10% in several counties, or greater than 5%
nationwide, is included in their own column. All other minor candidates are grouped as
"others." For a more complete account of those other candidates, see the "other" sheet.
