Armenian Prime Minister meets His Holiness Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican

As part of his official visit to the Holy See, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan met with His Holiness Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican.

His Holiness welcomed Prime Minister Pashinyan’s visit and his participation in the canonization ceremony of Archbishop Ignatius Maloyan and six other Blesseds. The Pope emphasized the close relations established between the Holy See and Armenia, particularly highlighting the role of the Mekhitarist Congregation of Venice in strengthening these ties.

Prime Minister Pashinyan congratulated His Holiness on his election as Pope, wishing him strength and success in fulfilling his sacred and responsible mission. The Prime Minister expressed confidence that under the leadership of Pope Leo XIV, the tradition of close dialogue between the Holy See and Armenia would continue, along with the Vatican’s consistent attention to issues important to Armenia.

During the meeting, the sides also discussed regional developments, including efforts to achieve peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. They touched upon humanitarian issues as well. His Holiness welcomed the progress made toward peace and expressed hope that lasting stability in the region would mark the beginning of a new phase of cooperation and development.

Prime Minister Pashinyan reaffirmed the Armenian Government’s commitment to the peace agenda for the benefit of Armenia and the prosperity and sustainable development of the region.
