Dead swan found in Fife, Scotland confirmed H5N1 Bird Flu virus
Reports say that the dead Mute Swan found in Fife, Scotland last week, was infected with the deadly H5N1 strain of Bird Flu and that a second swan is being tested for the deadly strain. This is the United Kingdom's first case of the virus.


Massachusetts lawmakers enact plan for universal health coverage
Massachusetts lawmakers approved legislation on Tuesday, April 4, that would make it the first state in the United States to require all residents to have health insurance and impose penalties for non-compliance. Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, a Republican who is expected to run for U.S. President in 2008, is expected to sign the bill.


Duke lacrosse season ends, coach resigns
Amid an escalating rape and racial discrimination scandal involving members of the Duke University Men's Lacrosse team, the university announced it has cancelled the rest of the team's season. Allegations of rape surfaced last week when an exotic dancer came forward, saying she was forcefully engaged into sexual intercourse by a group of lacrosse players at a house party. No charges have been filed.
