Your Job

Do you actually ever add anything to articles or do you just revert? If you don't like the way I added the reuters article, edit it out. That information is important, yet all you do is revert and do nothing. You should be fired. ChrisDJackson

frankly speaking, i don't really understand what those pieces of sentences/words mean... sound weird to me, took me a long time (maybe more than a month) to figure that out! what kind of promotion of nationalism is that? (just curious) >.< --Yacht (talk) 11:33, Oct 3, 2004 (UTC)

US space programme

Hi there. I would like some clarification on 'programme' vs. 'program' here. I and my dictionary are both of the opinion that the two words have very different meanings and are not interchangable, as Rmhermen appears to claim. He then contradicts his own interpretation of WP policy by moving one of my pages. Could you please comment on User_talk:Rmhermen#Programme. As for the page on the US space programme, the NASA page does not come close to covering what I want. It only discusses one organisation, my page will cover contractor's involvements, and government decisions affecting the direction more than NASA itself. Please wait until I have fleshed it out and written the other articles over the next week or so before suggesting it be merged with something else. Thanks for listening, your input would be appreciated. Nicholas 21:13, 6 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Your comment on my page

We should try to keep tables as close as possible from 300px width, but by doing 300px automatically, you end up with horrible results, because no matter what, you will never have a full posthumous name entering in 300px. It is better to decide ourselves where the line break, than having the machine decide for us, because sometimes the machine breaks at really bad point, such as between two Chinese characters that should really be on the same line for the sake of clarity. So yes preview zillion times like you say is a real pain in the ass, but at least the end result is better than an automatic 300px width. And since I have spent that aweful lot of time previewing zillions of time, I find it harsh that you come behind me, and hop, voila, automatic 300px and all the painfully designed tables screwed up.

The table with Guangxu that you copied for me is certainly not the way it appeared on the screen, because I had broken the lines so that it was close to 300px width.

Pinyin in tables should appear without accents first, so that people whose computer cannot read 1st and 3rd tone in unicode can still read the name. It is better to have Zi without a tone, than to have Z口. Pinyin with accents can appear later in a parenthesis such as was in the Confucius table.

I don't see a problem with listing the Chinese characters, even if there exists an article about the word. When I read an article, and I see Chinese names inside the article, I don't necessarily want to click each time I see a new word to find out which character it is. It's better to leave the characters.

More generally, I would appreciate that you don't always come after me to reformat what I have written or created. The whole point of Wikipedia is to add new content, or to correct factual errors from other people. It is not to go beyond people and go after little details of changing comas and bolding what's unbolded, or unbolding what's bolded. Next time you'll re-spell in American English if I spell in British English I'm sure. I find that plain annoying.Hardouin 01:48, 10 Oct 2004 (UTC)

I mean just look at the Guangxu table now. You have "justified" the lines I see, but the result for the dates is just horrible to look at. And then all the dates have the last year on a second line, which is both ugly and confusing. This 300px thing is stupid. Look at the tables for American presidents, they don't have a 300px limit. I agree, if the table is too big it's not good either, but as long as we remain in a 300-350px range, this is ok. Only someone using a ruler could notice the difference, and plus we avoid having dates on two lines and lines broken by the machine at places that are not desirable.

I also notice that you have once again suppressed birth and death dates, and dynasty name. The debate over this question is not over, so we should leave them for the moment. Plus you end up taking away some information, mainly the name of the Qing dynasty in ManchuHardouin 02:01, 10 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Here is the problem with rendering:

File:GuScr.jpg

The dates are screwed up as you can see. And the pinyin with tones is screwed up too.

As for the Kangxi screenshot, it's even worse:

File:KaScr.jpg

As for the Wikipedia:Manual of Style for China-related articles, well, if we follow all what they say, we would have to list the simplified characters along with the non-simplified characters. So go ahead, add the simplified characters. You'll be sure to end up with tables twice longer than they are now! Not really the result you were looking for...

I agree with them that we should not put too much Chinese characters inside the articles. If you look at my contributions, typically 90% of characters I list are there because there's no link to an article where the characters would appear. In about 10% of cases, I have also put the characters although there's a link, such as Empress Ci'an, because she is not that famous, and one mention of her characters inside a text is not going to clutter the text really (I say one mention, I wouldn't put the characters each time her name appears in the text).

About your Chinese philosophy and alternative text for the image, I did not intend to suppress them. I just didn't pay attention to the fact that you had added them. I will re-add them just now. On a side note, I don't know if you have noticed, but it seems there's a problem with Wikipedia in the last days, pages show up on the screen as they were a few days before, without showing recent edits. So right now the Confucius page appears on my screen as it was before your revert and my revert. How weird is that!! And the weirdest is, if you go into History, it shows that you reverted, and it shows that I reverted, but still the page appears as it was before our two edits. And the same was true about the Mencius page when I looked at it yesterday. It showed up without the table, as if I had never put a table! They really need to do something about it... So right now I am going to re-add your links, but I am not sure they will actually show up.

About edits, I am perfectly fine when people correct my factual errors, or reword my sentences if my phrasing was awkward. I have never reverted someone before you actually. But you seem to relish in just displacing comas or little stuff like that. I think I read somewhere here on Wikipedia that it is not considered ok to change the format of what people write, or switch from BE to AE, etc. Plus I think you would contribute in a much more positive way to Wikipedia if you were to actually create articles of your own, or add new content to articles. I mean, you seem to like Chinese related things... just go on Google Chinese, pick some subject, choose articles in Chinese, pick up your Chinese dictionary, and then report on Wikipedia and write content to let us know about things that we don't know yet. There is so much more to add to the Chinese article on Wikipedia, most of them are so empty. That's how you would be useful, much more than by reformatting my edits. But then of course that's harder work than simply reformating.Hardouin 13:08, 10 Oct 2004 (UTC)

RfA

Now I've got some homework to do. Thank you for your supportive RfA vote and consideration. Fire Star 14:05, 12 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Hi Jiang,

I have no idea where to propose this idea, so I thought I'd talk to you first.

Over the past couple of months I've found myself in need of a way of making "announcements" to all Wikipedians concerned with China-related topics, first with the poll at Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (Chinese) (thrice), then with the proposal at Talk:Mandarin (linguistics), and now, with another proposal at Talk:Hui. Now to do this, I can either a) post a comment on that page and hope someone notices or b) ask everyone on their talk pages. Neither of these are optimal, so I'm thinking: why not have a "China-related topics bulletin board", where anyone can post general announcements or appeals to everyone who is interested in China-related topics? Surely this will save us a lot of trouble and make communications a lot easier.

So what do you think? -- ran (talk) 21:43, Oct 14, 2004 (UTC)

assistance

hello, I'll try to help out on the ROC 2004 election article, but I'll have to find a pretty comprehensive site first. I think chinatimes is gonna put up a special about it fairly soon like they did with the presidential elections. I don't really know the details of various interpretations on the treaty of san francisco and taiwan status because they're rather confusing, with each side just refuting each other, so I'm not sure how to look at mababa's edits, but I'll try to edit whatever that's obviously npov. New Youth

Hi Jiang,

Can you move New Youths to New Youth? I ask because you're an admin and I apparently need admin access to move a page when there is something already existing on the target page. I think this page should be moved to New Youth for several reasons:

 1. New Youth is a more accurate translation (the Chinese is ambiguous as to whether Youth is plural, and when we write Youth we leave in the same ambiguity)
 2. Youth is its own plural in English
 3. Almost all the books I read use "Youth".

No dependencies on the List of National Legislatures???

Hi Jiang! I see you've reverted my inclusion of Pitcairn Island on the list of national legislatures, saying no dependencies are listed there. Then should we remove the Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey, and Puerto Rico also? They are all dependencies, too. Just a thought - either way, it would be good to have uniform rules. What do you think? David Cannon 03:07, 26 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for replying! Yes, I'll make a few comments on the associated talk page. I think your idea of italics is a good one. Another possibility might be to have dependencies listed in a separate table at the bottom of the page. Anyway, I'll put it on the talk page and see what ideas others may contribute also. Kings of Cambodia

Why did you move Kings of Cambodia to King of Cambodia, after I had explicitly pointed out on Talk:Kings of Cambodia that Wikipedia precedent was to use the form "Kings of X" (or "List of Kings of X")? Look at Category:Lists of office-holders - there's only one, in that whole list, of the form "King of X". Noel 16:07, 28 Oct 2004 (UTC)

How come you removed the OECD from France?

 • Ah ha! Thanks. (I'm always suspicious when correct and possibly useful information is wiped.) --jpgordon{gab} 19:58, 29 Oct 2004 (UTC)

You have reverted some 20 instances of the category OECD included by User:ThomasK. Please explain and/or re-revert, or you may be reported for vandalism. (sorry, out of line there) Could you please replace OECD with links to OECD somewhere in these articles, instead of just deleting it? --Eddi 22:25, 29 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Yes, the link needs to go into the articles. I'll look into it, but generally there are few mentions outside of the EU of membership in international organizations in these articles. It will take some work to incorporate it into the text. Should we should start with a category? --Jiang 05:25, 30 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Nope, that should be and is no vandalism! I was wonder why there is no OECD link on each country. Case closed. (please do not answer on my talk page.) --ThomasK 04:02, Oct 30, 2004 (UTC)

Second attempt on China article

Jiang, the user Comrade Tassadar (a new contributor?) just made a second attempt at adding some incorrect changes to the China article. I reverted his change back to the text you restored from his first attempt, but perhaps you could add a better explanation than I did, either on Tassadar's talk page, or perhaps in the China talk page, explaining why his contribution is mistaken. As a courtesy to me and other readers, could you both please stop reverting each other's changes before having discussed them and/or given others a chance to reach consensus? Discussion and consensus here meaning that there's a decision about what should be done before it's actually done. Talk it out before you revert. Regardless of who's "right" or "wrong" according to policy or personal opinion. Please. JRM 12:29, 2004 Nov 5 (UTC)

The two sections I moved weren't supposed to be archives. They were subpages as the sections were very long. I don't see what problem that caused. It's not the first time a talk page has been reorganised. You ask why people have to click one more link. I ask why do people have to load such a big page that is so difficult to read or comprehend. I really think it should be divided into subpages. It has been done before so I don't know what convention I have broken. --Hemanshu 13:41, 5 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Hey, I come here to consult with you guys about how you want the article be. I would complain that the current article is INDEED written in someone's point of view as opposed to the common knowledge. It is not supported by any evidence what so ever that the Japanese government intentionally to make the abrogation official or non-official. why did we move these articles from the proper name of the universitys to a slang names for the universitys? that doesn't sound right to me. Article Licensing

Hi, I've started the Free the Rambot Articles Project which has the goals of getting users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to...

 1. ...all U.S. state, county, and city articles...
 2. ...all articles...

using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) version 1.0 and 2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to the GFDL (which every contribution made to Wikipedia is licensed under), but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles (See the Multi-licensing Guide for more information). Since you are among the top 1000 most active Wikipedians, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles.

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual template (or MultiLicensePD for public domain) into their user page, but there are other templates for other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual with MultiLicensePD. If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know at my talk page what you think. -- Ram-Man 20:28, Nov 29, 2004 (UTC)

Hello

Jiang, please stop making the table of names of Junichiro Koizumi Blue. See other dictators' names' tables. All are in that standard format. Otherwise, it would be very messy. Like all Korean and Japanese names, I want the top of the table pink. Eg:Kim Jong Il, Kim Il Sung Thanks, User:Chan Han Xiang

I also want the table of names of Yoshiro Mori intact. Thanks.

Yes, I agree with you. But, look at List of Koreans. All of the articles follow the Born style. Even the Kim Jeong-ho, which uses the older style, a biographical information. Thanks.

Furthermore, tge style you use is of the Template form. Most Korean and Japanese names use the organization style.

Your new style does not have links to the specific artilces of Korean scripts and prounactions, while this (Below) style has. Just you compare, the first one is more presentable than the second one.

1.

Kim Jeong-ho
Korean Name
Revised Romanization Gim Jeong-ho
McCune-Reischauer Kim Chŏng-ho
Hangul 김정호
Hanja 金正浩
Courtesy Name (Pen Name)
Revised Romanization Gosanja
McCune-Reischauer Kosanja
Hangul 고산자
Hanja 古山子

Born 1804
Died 1866

or

Kim Hyo-Jin
Korean Name
McCune-ReischauerGim Hyo-Jin
Revised RomanizationKim Hyo-Jin

Hanja金孝珍

2.

Template:Koreanname noimage

Furthermore, Pink stands out more than light blue. The worrds in the first presentations are black, and thus it seems more prominent than the second one.

=======

Fine, if you like to use grey for all Japanese names. However, other than that, the structure of all Korean and Japanese name tables should be like before that.

I want everything exactly the same as it was on Junichiro Koizumi. If you are not blind, you should be able to see my message. User: Chan Han Xiang

Jiang, I'm not a fool. Yes, I agree on what you say, but you are not prepared about the changes. Now I know what your born means.

1. Fine. Since all articles use Born in small letters, I apologise for this grievance.

2. My point for using the original Table style is that every single Korean individual on this wikipedia uses the name table that I used, not your style. If you have not looked into the name tables of the Koreans in the List of Koreans, I urge that you should do it now. Look here. The name table from the Kim Jong Il has been around for many months. Furthermore, even celebrities, with the exception of Kim Hyo Jin, they all use my style, including BoA, Seo Taiji, etc. None of them used the style you said, even though it may seem "wrong". It has the same style of classification like the latter, more presentable. Pink and Black is better thab Blue because it is better for people with red-green defiency, in which they cannot see darker red, bule, and green.Furthermore, the words are larger than the template. It is even easier do edit, because they display all the techincal functions in the <<Edit This Page>> section. Jiang, I conclude that there is no reason to use the latter trend. Thanks, User:Chan Han Xiang

HELLO

I warn you again, please see all the people in the List of Koreans, celebs section. They used the typical old style and not the new style!
