Premier League
Season2022–23
Dates6 August 2022 – 28 May 2023[a]
2023–24

The 2022–23 Premier League will be the 31st season of the Premier League, and the 124th season of top-flight English football overall. The provisional fixtures are scheduled to be released on 15 June 2022.

Manchester City are the two-time defending champions, having won both the 2020–21 season and 2021–22 season.

As of the 2022–23 season, clubs will be able to make five rather than three substitutions on three occasions during game time and at half time in line with rest of the top six European leagues (Bundesliga, Ligue 1, the Eredivisie, La Liga and Serie A). There will also be a mid-season break for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, with the last match played on the weekend of 12–13 November 2022, and the first match after the World Cup played on 26 December 2022, following the World Cup final on 18 December.[1]

Teams

Twenty teams will compete in the league – the top seventeen teams from the previous season and the three teams promoted from the Championship. The two promoted teams so far are Fulham and Bournemouth, who will return after an absence of one and two years in the top flight respectively. Huddersfield Town and Nottingham Forest will determine the third and final promoted team in the Championship final on 29 May. They will replace Burnley (relegated after a six-year top flight spell), Watford and Norwich City (both teams relegated after just one year in the top flight).
