Drew Barrymore has revealed that her two daughters, Frankie and Olive, recently watched Scream for the very first time and were blown away by their mom's short-lived performance. During Wednesday’s episode of her talk show, Barrymore explained that she doesn’t put any pressure on her kids to watch her movies — which they’ve lovingly dubbed “mom movies” — and instead lets them “discover them on their own” when the time is right. And, as it turns out, Frankie and Olive have officially entered their Scream era. “They came home the other day and said they watched Scream, and they were like, ‘Mom, you got it so good in that movie! Oh my God!’” Barrymore said as her Drew’s News cohosts Valerie Bertinelli and Ross Mathews began to laugh. Barrymore noted that they watched the spooky slasher at a sleepover with their friends, adding, “It’s just so fun that they’re old enough now — they’re basically 11 and 13, almost.” To say that her performance left an impression on them — especially her eldest daughter, Olive — is an understatement. “I think Olive said, ‘When I get a boyfriend in high school, that’s gonna be our Halloween costume. He’ll be Steve and I’ll be you,” Barrymore recalled, referencing Casey’s boyfriend in the film played by Kevin Patrick Walls. “I know! My kids are old enough now to say things to me and I’m like, ‘Okay, cool!’” Mathews noted that Olive wanting to be one of her mom’s characters for Halloween was “great” and “weird” simultaneously, which Barrymore agreed with wholeheartedly. “She wants to be you, you know?” He said. “That’s very cool.” Barrymore appeared to have a hard time putting the feeling of her kids being inspired by her work into words. “It’s… It's...” she began, before pivoting to focus on Olive's behavior. “And then, you know, she’ll slam the door in my face an hour later.” "They keep you honest!" Bertinelli said, to which Mathews replied, "Well, I have a chihuahua and she never talks back!” 'The Drew Barrymore Show'. The Drew Barrymore Show Drew Barrymore shows how her iconic Scream character would handle Ghostface today Despite Casey being stabbed in the heart and literally disemboweled by Ghostface, Barrymore hasn’t completely shut the door on reprising her role in a future Scream installment. While discussing the success of Scream VI on her talk show in 2023, she floated the idea that Casey could very well still be alive somewhere. "It's funny. I've never thought of it this way, but I'm pretty sure a C-section is comparable to what happened to her," Barrymore said at the time. "Like, literally. And I'm here! I'm fine! So, maybe Casey Becker will be okay." She added, "With good writing, you can make anything happen." The Drew Barrymore Show airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings. Close Read More: Movies
