This page enables stewards to handle permissions requests, including the giving and taking of administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights, for all Wikimedia wikis which do not have a local permissions procedure. 'If your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (see the index of request pages). Requests for bot status, URL blacklisting and whitelisting, and CheckUser queries belong elsewhere.

For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewards IRC channel (see a web-based IRC client). In emergencies only, type !steward in the channel to inform stewards that you need help.

Please only make requests here after gaining the approval of your local community.

When requesting permissions, copy and paste the following text into the correct section. Please fill in all the required fields -- language code, link to the local request, and link to your local user page. Without this information, a steward cannot process your request.

Hebrew Wikibooks

I request bureaucrat rights in Hebrew Wikibooks (hewikibooks). There was a vote here (in the village pump), started at 10 June and finished at 17 June. There is almost no community, thus only one user (except for me) participated. Since the current bureaucrats are inactive, I ask it here.

Summary:

In the same vote, it was decided to grant sysop rights to b:he:User:Mintz l. Please also do that.

He was active for a few days for the discussion (in his talk page) about the appointment, but he recently became inactive in all the projects. In this discussion, he expressed no objection. Icelandic Wikiquote

I request bureaucrat rights on the Icelandic Wikiquote. There is literally no community (no active user), so there has not been any vote in the village pump (which I only created yesterday). There are three sysops, none of which is currently active on the Icelandic Wikiquote (although two are very active on the Icelandic Wikipedia).

I am myself a sysop and a bureaucrat on the Icelandic Wikipedia (user page: w:is:Notandi:Cessator) and a registered user since september 2005. Bureaucrat status on the Icelandic Wikiquote would give me all the necessary means of a sysop in addition to making the Icelandic Wikiquote self sufficient. I would be happy to distribute sysop rights rather freely to active users who show themselves to be responsible and reliable, especially until things get rolling; and I would be happy to let users borrow credibility accross syster projest e.g. from the Icelandic Wikipedia (no reason to suspect that well established users on one project will be vandals on another project).

CheckUser access

To request CheckUser information, see Request for CheckUser information. This is the place to request CheckUser access. Note that temporary CheckUser access is not permitted.

Stewards: When someone asks for CheckUser status, please check the current policy regarding bestowal of status before giving the status. Breaching these rules may be cause for removing your steward access. When you give someone CheckUser, please list them on CheckUser, ask them to subscribe to checkuser-l, email checkuser-l-owner@wikipedia.org so that the listadmins know the person is allowed on the mailing list (the list may contain confidential information), and make sure they contact an op for access to #wikimedia-checkuser.

Arabic Wikipedia

Hi, Iam user Tarawneh [1] from ar wiki. I resigned from Bureaucrat, checkuser, and Sysop lists in ar wiki a few months ago, according to policy the other checkuser ar:user:chaos was removed from the checkuser list [2], now ar wiki has new checkusers, and hence no reason , by policy , exists to keep chaos away from his rights. I had a chat with Cary, he agreed and he advised me to post a request here.

Oversight access

Do not initiate an oversight request here. The Arbitration Committee will make the request once there is consensus on the local wiki (this process is currently for en-Wikipedia only).

Stewards: When you give someone oversight access, list them on Hiding revisions.

Removal of access

If you want to request that your own status be removed, please don't forget to place a note in English on your local user talk page. This is required to prove your identity. And then add the request here.

To request the removal of another user's status, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. All discussion must be kept on your local wiki. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, a trusted person from that wiki should provide a link here to the discussion, a very brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion.

Temporary permissions for emergency or technical purposes

If you are requesting administrator status to make a translation of the wiki interface, see also the BetaWiki project, which seeks to make a neutral MediaWiki translation that will then be default for all wikis. That is more useful than only making a local translation. You can ask questions in the IRC channel or in the mailing list. See also MediaWiki localisation.

Stewards: Currently active temporary permissions are listed at /Approved temporary. When granting a request, please copy the request to the appropriate section there, and clearly state the date of removal. Requests only need remain listed below for a few days, and may afterward be removed as long as they have been copied to the subpage.

Uyghur Wikipedia

I would like administrative access to the Uyghur wikipedia for the User Arken. There is only one other admin, and he claims to no little or no Uyghur.

Two other things that I think need help from a different place also need to be done. Can anybody redirect me to where I could ask about adding extra tabs as was done in the Kazakh Wikipedia (see kk.wikipedia.org). Also, we don't call our language: Oyghurque, where can I get help changing that.

Ok, but you haven't demonstrated any kind of need for someone to be made sysop temporarily, without community endorsement. In order for this to be granted, we need a compelling reason. If there is no specific, urgent need for this, I would ask that you seek community approval for your intended status, and once you obtain it, we can grant you permanent access. Lithuanian Wikipedia

I want to remove my sysop rights in Lithuanian Wikipedia. I don't want to stay with other sysops community, especialy nomad, dirgela and knutux, where are a lot of irritation, dictatorship, ructions, abuses, etc. I think, I can work my interest job in wikipedia without sysop rights. Cherokee Wikipedia

SE Asia Wikibooks

Khmer and Myanmar Wikibooks have no active users, only the index.php spambot stuff to clean up. I volunteer to cleanup them, but need admin rights to be able to stop it maybe.

Tok Pisin Wikipedia and Wiktionary (neo-Melanesian language)

I request sysop access to revise, upgrade, and update the Tok Pisin Wikipedia and Wiktionary, both to reinvigorate the two, and as an active part of WikiProject Melanesia.  The only Tok Pisin administrator has been inactive there since 23 December 2006.

I have extensive professional (i.e., paid) experience in software development and programming, Internet and corporate intranet web design and server maintenance, and many years in technical writing.  I grew up in Polynesia (Hawai'i), and have sailed as a merchant mariner in Micronesia (Marshall Islands), Australia, Indonesia and the Philippines, and am very familiar with the cultures of Oceania.  I'd like to use my experience and technical abilities to help make the Tok Pisin Wikipedia and Wiktionary useful resources for both the Melanesian-region Tok Pisin community, and as my contribution to WikiProject Melanesia.

Multiproject blocking

Username change

I request that my username "pih:User:Annabelle Evans is a fucking fuck" on the Pitkern wikipedia be changed to "Goldzor". Reason: My current user name is offensive. Import group

Hey, I am en:User:TheFearow, and I am requesting that I am temporarily added to the "import" group on mediawiki.org. I want to help out with the many pages needing transferral from meta. I assume that I need a stewards help rather than a local bureaucrat, as adding to a diff group requires access to Special:Userrights (and thats steward-only, at least with the defaults on my wiki). I thought Import group was to import XML data, not to import pages from other wikis. Also, a page showing support from the local community is needed. guillom 14:32, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Account usurpation on kab.wikipedia.org

Kabyle Wikipedia was recently created, but there is one person which has already got the idea to:

  1. create there an account with my username,
  2. build pages as if they were created by the real Hégésippe Cormier,
  3. and has probably the idea, later, to make some vandal actions with that account.

The probability that this person is already known is very high: some false accounts of this kind were already created, for example fot the account Zyxwvut-Bot on Napolitan Wikipedia, etc. My requests are:

  1. make a check-user investigation (account creation and pages are not so old) in order to know the IP address(es) used for those bad actions and give the informations,
  2. rename the account 'Hégésippe Cormier' on kab.wikipedia.org, for example as 'Former usurpated account', and then block the renamed account,
  3. delete the false pages w:kab:User:Hégésippe Cormier and w:kab:User talk:Hégésippe Cormier (or the renamed pages and the possible redirects staying in the former pages),
  4. allow me to create the real 'Hégésippe Cormier' account on kab.wikipedia.org.
