Peacock‘s future is starting to look a little Grimm.
The streamer is developing a reboot of NBC’s supernatural drama, our sister site Deadline reports.
Grimm ran for six seasons (from 2011 to 2017) and followed Nick Burkhardt (played by David Giuntoli), the latest in a long line of Grimms, or slayers of fairytale monsters. These monsters were known as Wesen, though as the series progressed, Wesen accounted for most of Nick’s best friends and romantic interests. The cast also included Bitsie Tulloch, Claire Coffee, Russell Hornsby, Silas Weir Mitchell, Bree Turner, Reggie Lee, Sasha Roiz and Jacqueline Toboni.
The show was created by David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf, who also served as co-showrunners. Both men are involved in the potential reboot, as are original series producers Lynn Kouf, Hazy Mills Productions and Universal Television. Josh Berman (Drop Dead Diva, CSI, The Blacklist) will write and executive-produce the new series .
A rep for Peacock told TVLine the streamer had no additional information to share.
The project could be a movie, our sister site Variety reports; sources tell TVLine that exactly what form the reboot will take is still being discussed.
Per Deadline, the project’s premise is being kept under wraps but likely would involve a way to draw in new viewers and existing fans of the original series.
Grimm‘s series finale aired in March 2017, with a flash-forward showing that Nick’s son, Kelly, grows up to be a Grimm who fights alongside his father, mother Adalind and half-sister Diana, as well as Monroe and Rosalee’s triplets.
In 2018, NBC was developing a female-led Grimm spinoff penned/executive-produced by Melissa Glen (Marvel’s Iron Fist); Greenwalt and Kouf would have served as consulting producers. That concept ended up not moving forward.
Wow I’m excited about the Grimm reboot I Love the show watched all 6 seasons looking forward to to the reboot I hope the orginal actors come back
Personally I’m not. I liked the original but they did seem to be struggling somewhat by the end as they had worn the premise out and I just can’t see how they could bring anything significantly different.
It’s not like FNL where it’s easy to reboot or revive as there are always unique human interest stories to tell. There is only so many public domain fairy tales to draw inspiration from. It needs more than the 7/8 years it’s been to allow it to be approach with fresh eyes in a unique manner
I loved Grimm show. Bring it back on NBC not peacock. It was exciting and adventurous show.
One of the best shows EVER. Not just the thrilling supernatural aspects – even though the concept was brilliant – but it was the chemistry among the characters and the plot evolution. The show did what no other American TV show has ever done – correct me if I’m wrong – the character flip midway through the series was bold and stunning.
Wouldn’t the comparison be Buffy? I don’t want to add names for spoilers, but a significant ally of the protagonist became a main villain and then went back to significant ally. A significant antagonist went from enemy to lover, to ally, to possibly lover. The group expands in similar dynamics. I think Buffy and Grimm could be siblings with Grimm in that they look similar enough to be related, but different enough that one doesn’t feel like they copying the other.
Well David Greenwalt did work on both show, so…
Loved Grimm / A reboot would be welcome!!!
Personally, not interested in a reboot, a revival would have me interested
Yeah…..the use of the term reboot has me concerned. Revival would make more sense given that it’s only been 7 years since it ended. Plus it’s shown continuously on Comet network.
They already went through pretty much every fairy tale / storybook creature in the public domain. But I wouldn’t mind if they did it all again, this time with better special effects.
There is a lot of non-western fantastic creatures to tackle, and some creatures they handled badly or in too short of time. They need to also no introduce a long backbone story without knowing how it would end – the whole keys thing fell flat for me. though I could see them setting up a keys type plot of them forming and building the puzzle for future generations.
This was the news I needed to turn my day around! Guess I should do my 7th rewatch!!
You and I should fangirl together – I watch Grimm so often I can quote every line of dialogue verbatim. Have all the complete episodes and never tire of the storylines. Plus, the absolute best TV cast ensemble ever. So ready for more Grimm!
LOVED the show Grimm ! Was saddened when cancelled ! I watched Supernatural from day 1 and still have the finale video on my phone !! All the great shows get cancelled for no reason especially when there’s a great following.
It went six seasons…. That’s more than most shows get….
It last aired in 2017. It’s barely had enough time to cool. It’s way too soon for a “reboot” telling the whole thing over again. I hope they actually meant a continuation.
Don’t need a reboot (reboot still says to me ignore most of the original stuff). now a revival, or some type of continuation works for me
Pluto, that means it will be seen by literally dozens of viewers like the fabled new season of “Law & Order Organized Crime” never seen by many fans because it didn’t get renewed on CBS or NBC or whatever network it originated on.
Peacock not Pluto.
That was one of the better monologue jokes at the Golden Globes: ” ‘The Day of the Jackal’ [is] about a top-secret elite sniper who no one can see… because he’s on Peacock.”
I was saying to someone last week that I have watched more series, movies, and events on Peacock than on regular NBC. I looked at their upcoming schedule and found only 30 minutes that might appeal to me.
hope it’s not a movie
Deadline reporting it as a movie
I am kind of hoping that this is that Trubel spin off finally going forward, though the description seems to say no.
I always wanted to know what happened with the character of Josh – Josh becoming a Grimm late in life and being mentored by Trubel would be a great story.
Please stop, just stop, Hollywood is dead to new ideas.
So possibly a Wynonna Earp: Vengeance kind of deal?
If done with the love and creativity of the original show (minus the unfortunate shuffling of Royals due to cast availability!) then that would be terrific.
That cast was a lightning in a bottle ensemble for sure
The problem with reboots of the last decade is that the cast always lacks the magic in a bottle chemistry and appeal of the original and the writing isn’t nearly as good or too far off from the original.
So wait, is this gonna be a reboot or a revival?
I’m cautious about a reboot (particularly when the original is one of my favorite shows), but if it’s a revival that either follows Nick or follows his kids (and Monroe and Rosalie’s Kids of course), that would be amazing!
“First Friday Night Lights” and now “Grimm”. If I remember correctly both of those series’ popularity was heavily dependent on the popularity of the lead actor. I’m sure some viewers were drawn in by the story lines but both shows got a lot of “he’s so dreamy!!” posts/press at the time. Without similarly engaging casts success seems unlikely.
I admit, the initial draw for me for both shows were the two hot actors. 😆 I did up really loving both shows way beyond that, of course. But a hot lead actor doesn’t hurt. 😅
LETS GO
Yes I absolutely love Grimm thank you
Wish that spinoff would come alive again too
If it’s not about those kids grown up with appearances from their parents, I’m not interested.
KEEP THE SAME ACTORS AND THE SAME STORY LINE WITH NICK AND ADALIND
So tell me this, Grime was televised on NBC for free for the audience to enjoy! Putting it on Peacock means what? We to pay for Peacock too see it, If so that isn’t fair to the loyal fans of the show like myself! Everything on Peacock that is worth watching they make you pay for it, So say that isn’t so PLEASE!
It makes me so happy they are doing a reboot. What a great cast. Fun show and the friendship of the cast fighting the bad ones is really appealing.
Wow that is great news.
