Parks & Green Spaces

The park, close to the Royal Crescent and arranged over 57 acres, was created in the early 1800s to enhance the attractions of Bath as a tourist resort and was a nationally renowned arboretum.

In 1887 the Botanical Gardens were added when a large collection of rare plants was bequeathed and the gardens now boast one of the finest collections of flowers, trees and shrubs in the West Country.

Lots to do for the kiddies

The replica of a Roman Temple was exhibited at the British Empire Exhibition which was held at Wembley in London in 1924.

There are seven entrances into the park  including Lower Weston and Upper Bristol Road and there is limited time parking available throughout the area.

Along with the botanical gardens, and plenty of  trees and green space, perfect for picnics, you can find ornamental lakes, an aviary, bowling green, pitch and putt, tennis courts and pavilion as well as a café and a children’s play area.

In fact the play area itself is probably one of the best in the Bristol and Bath locality, with exciting and imaginative equipment grouped roughly according to age group.

Take time to smell the flowers

There are slides, swings, elaborate climbing frames, a sand pit, tunnel slides, a large tyre swing and much more.

A skateboard area satisfies the needs of any budding skating pro and at peak times during the summer there is a ‘pay’ bouncy castle and roundabout.

The area is also constantly monitored by wardens on site, who make sure everything is working properly, keep it clean and sort out any problems.

The park hosts three main events each year, the Bath Flower Show, the International Music Festival and the Children's Festival, as well as ad hoc concerts, circuses and fairs, and look out for hot air balloons added a splash of colour to the summer evening sky.
