Stars' Colin Blackwell: Stuck in slump
Blackwell has posted just one assist over 13 games since the start of December after being held scoreless in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Hurricanes.
Blackwell hasn't scored a goal since Nov. 20 versus the Canucks. The 32-year-old forward was starting to slip into a part-time role in late December, but injuries to Jamie Benn (upper body) and Adam Erne (undisclosed) may provide Blackwell with short-term stability in the lineup. Overall, Blackwell has seven points, 30 shots on net, 56 hits, 18 blocked shots and 14 PIM over 38 appearances in a bottom-six role.

Stars' Casey DeSmith: Starting against Washington
DeSmith will start Wednesday's road game against Washington, Mike Heika of the Stars' official site reports.
DeSmith missed Sunday's game against Montreal while tending to a personal matter, but he returned to action in relief during Tuesday's road loss to Carolina. He'll draw the start in the second half of the back-to-back set after turning aside 16 of 17 shots (.941 save percentage) during Tuesday's matchup. Across seven appearances since the start of December, he's gone 3-1-2 with a 2.90 GAA and a .905 save percentage.

Stars' Adam Erne: Unavailable Wednesday
Erne (undisclosed) is expected to miss Wednesday's game in Washington, per Mike Heika of the Stars' official site.
Erne suffered the injury during Tuesday's 6-3 loss to Carolina. He has three goals and four points in 18 outings in 2025-26. Nathan Bastian is set to draw into the lineup Wednesday due to Erne's absence.

Stars' Justin Hryckowian: Inks two-year extension
Hryckowian signed a two-year, $1.9 million contract extension with the Stars on Wednesday.
Hryckowian secured his extension, which is a one-way deal, after breaking into a middle-six role with the Stars through solid all-around play. Through 42 games this season, the 24-year-old forward has six goals, seven assists, 42 shots on net, 66 hits and 19 blocks. Hryckowian signed an entry-level deal with the Stars in March of 2024 as an undrafted prospect but has quickly carved out a role at the NHL level. The 24-year-old will likely have opportunities to contribute for the Stars as the season progresses, and he'll remain under contract with the team through the 2027-28 campaign.

Stars' Wyatt Johnston: Nets power-play goal in loss
Johnston scored a power-play goal, put two shots on net and dished out two hits in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Hurricanes.
Despite the three-goal loss, Johnston ended the game on a high note for the Stars with his power-play twine finder with less than two minutes remaining. With the late score, he now has 23 goals, 49 points, 105 shots on net and 33 blocks through 43 games this season. Since Nov. 25, he has 28 points in 21 appearances. He has an outside shot at reaching the 100-point threshold this season. To do so, he would need 51 points in the remaining 39 games, which would be a true test of his rising stardom in the NHL. Regardless, he projects as an elite player in fantasy for the foreseeable future.

Stars' Mikko Rantanen: Adds two points in loss
Rantanen scored a goal, tallied a power-play assist, placed three shots on net and served two PIM in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to Carolina.
Rantanen lit the lamp just 36 seconds into the third period before sliding the primary assist on Wyatt Johnston's power-play goal near the end of the game. With the pair of points, Rantanen is up to 17 goals, 42 assists, 103 shots on net, 30 hits and 20 blocks across 42 games this season. Since Dec. 15, he has seven multi-point performances in 10 total games, with at least one point in nine of those appearances. He is also tied for fourth in the NHL with 31 points since Nov. 28. Playing a crucial role inside Dallas' top six, Rantanen could reach the century mark in points for the third time in the past four seasons.

Stars' Jason Robertson: Tallies three points in loss
Robertson scored a power-play goal, distributed two assists, put two shots on net and served two PIM in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Hurricanes.
Robertson struck the back of the net for a rare unassisted power-play goal in the first period before he distributed two assists in the third. The 26-year-old winger hasn't stopped scoring as of late, with five goals and 12 points in his last eight games. Overall, he has 25 goals, 27 assists, 163 shots on net and 25 hits through 43 contests this season. He is likely competing with greater intensity after being excluded from Team USA's roster for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, even though he leads all American-born players with 52 points. Regardless of his Olympic status, his play throughout the season has willed the Stars to a 25-10-8 record and the second-most goals scored by a team, trailing only Colorado. After back-to-back 80-point regular seasons, Robertson's current scoring pace could push for the second 100-point year of his career.

Stars' Casey DeSmith: Returns to action in relief
DeSmith halted 16 of 17 shots on net in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to Carolina.
DeSmith was called upon to make his return to the lineup from a personal matter earlier than expected, as he entered the game following the fifth goal of the night allowed by Jake Oettinger. DeSmith played well in the relief effort, as he gave up just one tally midway through the third period. Overall, the 34-year-old goalie still has a 9-2-4 record, but now holds a .913 save percentage and a 2.41 GAA over 16 appearances this season. Despite Oettinger's rough outing, he firmly holds the starting job over DeSmith, despite the latter's solid numbers on a solid volume of starts. Regardless, DeSmith remains one of the best backups in the NHL and provides excellent value as a spot starter in nearly all fantasy formats.

Stars' Jake Oettinger: Pulled in second period
Oettinger stopped 10 of 15 shots on goal in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Hurricanes.
Oettinger struggled immensely in the first 26 minutes of Tuesday's contest, as he allowed five goals, including two in 102 seconds, to lead to his benching. Following Tuesday's loss, the 27-year-old netminder now has a 16-8-4 record with a 2.76 GAA and a .900 save percentage across 28 appearances this season. After one of the strongest starts to the 2025-26 campaign among goalies across the league, Oettinger has lost each of his last four outings and has posted a 4.55 GAA. His recent struggles are noteworthy and could lead to a few extra starts for Casey DeSmith. However, Oettinger's rough patch is likely just a hiccup amidst a long season. Oettinger's next chance to bounce back could come as early as Wednesday's road matchup against Washington.

Stars' Jamie Benn: Expected to miss at least two games
Head coach Glen Gulutzan said Monday that Benn (upper body) isn't expected to travel on the East Coast portion of the Stars' upcoming road trip, which includes games against Carolina on Tuesday and against Washington on Wednesday, Lia Assimakopoulos of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Benn exited Sunday's game against Montreal due to an upper-body injury. While Gulutzan said Monday that he doesn't know whether Benn is in the concussion protocol, the 36-year-old had stitches in his nose following Sunday's matchup. Although Benn isn't expected to travel to the East Coast, Gulutzan indicated that the center could join the team for the West Coast portion of the road trip, which begins in San Jose on Saturday and concludes in Utah on Jan. 15.

Stars' Remi Poirier: Sent back to AHL
Poirier was loaned to AHL Texas on Monday.
With Casey DeSmith (personal) returning to the active roster ahead of Tuesday's game against Carolina, Poirier will return to AHL in a corresponding move. The 24-year-old netminder served as the backup for Jake Oettinger during Sunday's contest against Montreal, but Poirier still hasn't made his NHL debut yet. Through 22 appearances with Texas this season, Poirier has an 8-10-4 record, a .903 save percentage and a 2.77 GAA.

Stars' Nathan Bastian: Recalled by Dallas
Bastian was recalled from his conditioning loan by the Stars on Monday.
Bastian has been a frequent healthy scratch this year, and he was loaned to AHL Texas last week to get some additional playing time. He'll rejoin the NHL club Monday but will likely continue to serve mainly as depth for the Stars. Across 20 appearances with Dallas this year, Bastian has recorded three goals, 48 hits, 10 PIM and five blocked shots while averaging a career-low 8:17 of ice time.

Stars' Casey DeSmith: Back on roster
DeSmith (personal) was removed from the non-roster list Monday.
With DeSmith rejoining the Stars, Remi Poirier was returned to AHL Texas on Monday in a corresponding move. While the 34-year-old DeSmith has given up three or more goals in five of his last six outings, he is still sporting a 3-1-2 record over that stretch. DeSmith's strong performances this year have seen him taking a bigger share of the workload, though this is likely to keep starter Jake Oettinger as healthy and rested as possible.

Stars' Wyatt Johnston: Scores twice vs. Montreal
Johnston scored two goals in Sunday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Canadiens.
Johnston ended a three-game goal drought with his two goals. He found the back of the net in the second and third periods to boost his season-long totals to 22 goals and 48 points over 42 outings. Johnston has found ways to produce on offense for the Stars and has racked up 11 points (six goals, five assists) over his last 10 games.

Stars' Jake Oettinger: Another OT defeat
Oettinger stopped 25 of 29 shots in Sunday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Canadiens.
Oettinger has dropped his last three starts, but two of those losses, against Montreal and Chicago, came in overtime. Oettinger remains an outstanding netminder, but his recent results haven't been the best. The 27-year-old has gone 5-3-2 with a 2.39 GAA and a .913 save percentage over his last 10 appearances.
