Capitals' Tom Wilson: Lights lamp twice in loss
Wilson scored two goals, one on the power play, and recorded an even-strength assist in Monday's 5-3 loss to the Panthers. He added a team-high six shots on net, two hits and a plus-1 rating to his ledger.
Both of Wilson's tallies came in the first period, as he banged home pucks from the low slot. The rugged winger snapped an eight-game goal drought with the performance, and on the season, Wilson has 19 goals, 37 points, 101 hits, 90 shots on net, 54 PIM and a plus-16 rating over 38 contests as he steams toward a career-best campaign.

Capitals' Dylan Strome: Three points in Monday's loss
Strome scored a goal and added two assists, one on the power play, in Monday's 5-3 loss to the Panthers.
After helping to set up a pair of Tom Wilson tallies in the first period, Strome gave Washington a 3-2 lead early in the third, but Florida quickly erased it. Strome extended his point streak to five games with the performance, a stretch in which he's produced two goals and eight points. On the season, the 28-year-old center has eight goals and 31 points in 37 contests.

Capitals' Logan Thompson: Can't hold late lead Monday
Thompson turned aside 24 of 28 shots in Monday's 5-3 loss to the Panthers, with Florida's final goal getting scored into an empty net.
The Capitals grabbed a 3-2 lead early in the third period, but Thompson couldn't make it stick. The 28-year-old netminder has lost three of his last four starts, and through 10 outings in December, he's managed a 4-4-2 record with a 2.76 GAA and a .914 save percentage.

Capitals' Logan Thompson: In net Monday
Thompson will guard the road goal against Florida on Monday, according to Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post.
Thompson is coming off a 35-save performance in Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over New Jersey. He has a 15-9-3 record this season with two shutouts, a 2.27 GAA and a .917 save percentage across 27 appearances. Florida ranks 12th in the league with 3.16 goals per game this campaign.

Capitals' Rasmus Sandin: Pockets helper in return
Sandin logged an assist, four blocked shots and a plus-3 rating in Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over the Devils.
Sandin missed one game due to an upper-body injury, but the holiday break appears to have helped him avoid a longer absence. He's earned four assists over his last seven contests. For the season, the defenseman is at 11 points, 37 shots on net, 45 hits, 59 blocked shots and a plus-8 rating across 32 appearances in a bottom-four role.

Capitals' Anthony Beauvillier: Finds twine Saturday
Beauvillier scored a goal on three shots and added two PIM in Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over the Devils.
Beauvillier's seven-game point drought saw him get shuffled into the bottom six, though he still logged 17:14 of ice time. The Capitals' line combinations remain fairly fluid, so Beauvillier should still be able to carve out a decent role if he can shake off his slump. He's produced seven goals, 12 points, 81 shots on net, 55 hits and a plus-4 rating across 38 appearances this season.

Capitals' Jakob Chychrun: Tallies game-winner in overtime
Chychrun scored the game-winning goal, fired five shots on net and blocked two shots in Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over the Devils.
Chychrun scored at 4:06 of overtime to take the win in a big Metropolitan Division showdown. The 27-year-old defenseman had gone three games without a point prior to Saturday. He's up to 15 goals, 29 points, 131 shots on net, 46 blocked shots, 35 hits, 33 PIM and a plus-22 rating through 38 appearances. His 11.5 shooting percentage is only marginally higher than his previous career high of 11.2 percent from last year, but a significant increase in shot volume has fueled his remarkable pace in 2025-26.

Capitals' Alex Ovechkin: Two-point effort Saturday
Ovechkin scored a goal and added an assist in Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over the Devils.
After setting up Aliaksei Protas for the game's opening tally with one second left in the first period, Ovechkin potted the tying goal midway through the third to force OT. The future Hall of Famer snapped a nine-game goalless skid with the performance, but the 40-year-old winger still has 15 goals and 33 points in 38 contests this season, putting him on pace for what would be an incredible 20th career 30-goal campaign.

Capitals' Aliaksei Protas: Three points in New Jersey
Protas scored a goal on five shots on net and added two assists, a hit and a plus-3 rating in Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over the Devils.
All three points came in regulation, as Protas continues to build momentum heading into the new year. The 24-year-old has found the back of the net in four of the last five games, and through 12 contests in December he's delivered seven goals and 11 points.

Capitals' Logan Thompson: Bounces back in Saturday's win
Thompson stopped 35 shots in Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over the Devils.
The 28-year-old netminder had coughed up 10 goals on 60 shots while losing his prior two starts, but Thompson looked a little sharper Saturday, as New Jersey held a lead for less than two minutes over the course of the game. Thompson's erratic December has still resulted in strong numbers. Through nine starts this month, he's gone 4-3-2 with a 2.61 GAA and .919 save percentage.

Wilson has 17 goals, 34 points, 54 PIM and 97 hits in 36 appearances in 2025-26. He missed Washington's 7-3 loss to the Rangers on Tuesday because of the illness. Now that Wilson is ready to return, he should serve in a top-six capacity and on the first power-play unit.

Capitals' Logan Thompson: Tending twine against Devils
Thompson will protect the road goal versus the Devils on Saturday.
Thompson has hit the skids recently, going 1-3-1 with 17 goals allowed over his last five games, though his one win in that span was via a shutout. The Devils have scored just six goals over their last five contests, going 2-3-0 in that span without scoring more than two goals in any of those contests.

Sandin missed Tuesday's 7-3 loss to the Rangers because of the injury. He has two goals, 10 points, 45 hits and 55 blocks in 31 outings in 2025-26. Sandin is projected to serve on the third pairing alongside Trevor van Riemsdyk.

Capitals' Hendrix Lapierre: Ends slump with helper
Lapierre notched an assist and went minus-2 in Tuesday's 7-3 loss to the Rangers.
Lapierre recently missed two games -- one due to an illness, the other a healthy scratch. That scratch was likely a long time coming, as his assist Tuesday ended an 11-game point drought. The 23-year-old remains in a fourth-line role when he plays, and he's at six helpers, 26 shots on net, 22 hits and a plus-1 rating through 34 appearances, down from eight assists in 27 regular-season games a year ago.
