He’s captain of our college’s basketball team. I swear to God I’ve already seen him in a Nike ad, and he’s one of the top picks when he goes pro following our spring graduation.
His life is on display for the world. Both his accomplishments and demons there for judgment.
I’m a girl who likes to play roller derby from, of all places, Wisconsin. My own demons better concealed. And one day…

I gotta be real. This is actually a 4 star read. Why the three? Because I'm sick nigh unto DEATH of reading about green and hazel eyed black women. We have progressed from an endless line of light skinned, light eyed heroines only to be buried in a slew of now DARK skinned light eyed chicks. The message is clear; plain old brown on brown still isn't considered pretty enough. Oh, and did I mention her silky hair? No? She's got it, trust me. If weave was mentioned at some point, I wouldn't make be objecting. It wasn't. And we are talking long and silky. I cant.
Now, beyond those two detractors this was a good read! I really enjoyed the relationship between Roxie and Griffin. Once they committed it was a beautiful thing to read about. I wasn't thrilled with the main relationship hurdle because it smacks of the old standard where one party tries to break things off to protect the other. However, it didn't last long and they came through it stronger. Griff was everything a 20something college gal could want- big man on campus with morals and a heart of gold. Roxie was sweet and insecure in ways that were understandable. Her background and just the REALITY of life and mainstream public perception of beauty....it rang true to me. Its not that she wasn't pretty or that there was anything wrong with her even in her own mind at the core. It was that she knew the crowd this guy ran with and the options young guys in his position tend to lean toward. She fought her issues because she knew they were placed on her at a young age by people who were just rotten.
Overall, I'm a loving relationship junkie when it comes to books. This one has that so I was able to look past the trite dialog flaws and oversimplified solutions to a few big issues woven into the plot. I liked the basketball backdrop- not something I've seen in IR yet. Definitely recommend.
I'm going to read this anyway because I'm an old school roller derby fan (like from back in the 70's) and I love quirky heroines. This despite my worst fears coming true. The heroine as described by the hero:
It was dark outside, but the laundry building’s outer lighting let me know her eyes weren’t the common brown I usually saw on dark girls. They were much lighter. I wished it was brighter so I could see them better. Like I said, I’d never seen such a thing on a black girl before. Other than that I supposed she was ordinary. Long, silky hair, round face, and full lips.
Facepalm. So brown eyes aren't good enough anymore.
Is it just my fate that every single BW/WM IR I've come across recently has some serious colorism issues? Is there an IR author out there somewhere who models their heroines after Grace Jones, N'Bushe Wright, Alek Wek and Lupita Nyong'o (and they're not tragic)? Ironically, I just watched a depressing documentary about colorism in India. There was a little boy who made his grandmother put powder on his face everyday in order to be lighter. Sad.
I am just going to use the F word, I am a FAN of Victoria Smith. It all started with The Space Between. I thought that was good but THIS, wow, THIS?!
This book, while still New Adult, is a step away from the typical uniformed NA storyline. If you read NA you know what I mean. Girl meets guy, guy is a slut, girl is an innocent virgin, never had a boyfriend, new, mousey, girl and guy break up, girl and guy get back together and fall in love against all odds. Eye roll, get real gets boring.
Griffin is captan of the University's basketball team. Being the star player he gets lots of attention, from girls, from fans, from people willing to give him anything to make him happy and keep the wins coming. Roxie on the other hand is just another face around campus. Once a week Roxie and Griffin wash their laundry at an hour most of their fellow coeds are still partying. Roxie and Griffin have a routine, they don't speak, give polite glances and Griffin contributes to Roxie's loads. One night, the routine switches and their paths are forever crossed.
Who is this bold petite girl that was brave enough to save Griffin's life? That's what he wants to know, that's what he has to find out. Roxie is hiding something, Griffin is not telling her everything. After all the cards are laid on the table will they be strong enough to love and stay with one another?
An okay read. It read pretty fast and easy which was perfect for my mood when I picked it up. The characters were okay but I can't say I fell in love with either of them and they didn't make me want to read any more from them. So their other books - I believe there's two more - will be a pass for me. But that's also just a personal preference and I don't typically read more books about a couple that already had their HEA.
LAME! The heroine was black but she could have been white, "green eyes" I know it's possible on black people, but I felt like it was a way to justify the hero attraction towards a black woman. Because as he said she was different from "common" black girls. I hated it!
Found by You is the story of Griffin and Roxie. Griffin is the star basketball player harboring a few secrets while Roxie is the roller derby-playing sista who also has a lil secret that could not only destroy her and Griffin’s relationship but his future as a professional basketball player. This story is a good mix of romance, secrets, jealous exes, forgiveness, and a few lessons in college athletics. The chemistry between Griff and Rox is immediate and intense. There is no BS’ing back and forth which I love. Griff knew what he want and went for it. Roxie was initially a little more reserved yet longed for him just the same. Those chance meetings in the laundry room finally pay off when they both participate in an overnight trip and give in to the desires they've been suppressing for what felt like forever.
Of course, no good romance would be complete without some antagonism. Enter D, Gri
ffin’s BFF and the conniving Tanya, one of Griff’s exes. D recognizes Roxie but can’t quite put his finger on when, where, or how they meet, and Tanya is just plain delusional believing she and Griff not only still have a chance, but are still in fact a couple who are just going through one of their on again/off again phases. The secrets eventually come out, and one of these haters use it to their full advantage to get what they want.
You will be on the edge of your seat while reading this tale. The storytelling is so good, and the dialogue is quite engaging. The romance is so sweet yet quite steamy. You’ll find yourself rooting for the good guys while damning the bad ones. Excellent read! Highly recommend!
This is my first story by Victoria Smith but it won’t be my last.
This is Roxie and Griffin’s story.
Griffin has a past and he has done things he is not proud of. However, he is a kind, loving, gentle caring young man and a gentleman to boot.
Roxie is a caring person who also has a past and secrets of her own. She appears to be a shy reserved young woman, who keeps very much to herself. In spite of this she has a bad ass attitude when it comes to protecting those she loves and cares about.
Griffin and Roxie meet and right away Roxie is jumping in to protect Griffin who she has had a secret crush on since their meetings in the laundry. At first I was upset with Roxie because she kept rejecting/holding at arm’s length this great guy who had opened his heart to her and was willing to wait until she was ready to be his girl. Then we discover that Roxie has demons of her own that she did not share with Griffin but he finds out about them in the most shocking way!
Griffin’s best friend D and his ex-girlfriend are the villains in the story and I personally wanted to give them both a good beat down for their parts in bring pain to Griffin and Roxie. When Griffin’s ex presents Roxie with an ultimatum, Roxie puts her relationship in jeopardy and causes Griffin heartache and pain, in trying to protect him.
I love it when an author introduces the couple from page 1 because then the book grabs your attention as this one did! This story had me in its grip from beginning to end and did not let me go until the last sentence. It was an epic story of love, trust and forgiveness! I loved, loved it! I thought it was the Bomb! I found the story to be extremely romantic and one the best reads I have read this year. I would highly recommend this book to everyone! Definitely a 5 star read!
I've had Ms. Smith's Spaces New Adult series on my TBR pile which I so need to move up after reading Found By You.
Roxie and Griffin were adorable and I wish their romance side kept up after the first love scene. I loved the scene where he came to watch her play roller derby and invited her to that evening's party. She thought he wasn't interested when he hopped off the bleachers to leave but then returned with a whole group of his friends to support Roxie and her team, complete with a sign re-inviting her to the party. What a guy!
I did like that Ms. Smith included the fact that sponsors essentially bribed players to sway them to play pro on their teams which happens in both basketball and also football from what I've been told by the players in my family. That hit a nice sense of realism that added a layer of tension between Roxie and Griffin when she found out about his past. I didn't blame Roxie for being apprehensive about entering a relationship with him considering how he got around. But his current actions and sweetness swayed me to like him just like Roxie. Missypoo also had some skeletons in her own closet. I was shocked to find out some things she did herself and it kept me reading as it didn't really go with her personality. I was curious to see how the author would mesh her earlier actions (or lack thereof?) with Griffin while exposing herself to strangers. I was glad to see it revisited later but I really wish that aspect of her life wasn't there so as to make her seem hypocritical when she brushes Griffin off for the prostitute incident.
Other than that, my other gripe was the language sprinkled throughout the book, particularly by Griffin. I usually stick with pretty clean reads and I'm glad that the spacing was easy enough to gloss over most of them.
Ms. Smith is a fantastic writer who knows how to pull you into the story with great characterization, a fast paced story and interesting characters. I appreciate her love scenes were more sensual than crude and really brought out the emotion rather than rely on autonomous body parts or x rated language. I'm looking forward to reading more of her work!
This book is for mature audiences only. 18 yrs and up due to language and sexual content.

I just began reading this and what was just found out about the heroine is going to take alot for me to start respecting her and the hero, it is going to take more. Why did the author have to make that the heroine's secret. My view of the heroine is now very colored. What the ..., they haven't dated or anything or been or around each other much but the first time their alone together, after finding about her past they sleep together. How am I going to think of this as more than sexual relationship, when it hadn't built up to it, it began with it. so far not liking this too much.
2.5 stars.
The language the hero used sometimes was a big turn off. I guess I'm the exception here, but I felt no connection between the hero and heroine, their relationship started after they had sex and it seems that's all they did when they were together. They never took the time to really get to know each other. In fact everything in this book centered around sex, everything. It wasn't explicit or raunchy, but it just didn't make me actually believe these two were truly in love. Maybe if the sex didn't happen so quickly.
This just didn't move me in anyway. I just felt disconnected, especially without any emotional connection between the pair, they definitely had lust.
I wish I could have given this book a better rating, but once I lost respect for them, it went down hill. I was hoping it would be a little like Arizona All Spice in a emotional way.
They were adorable in some of their actions though. I did love what the hero did for her during her game. You know what really had my eyes bugging out, she left the party after what she heard about the hero, but she went right home and made a sex video, that means she was still making soft porn all that time. talk about hypocrite.
Can I get a story about a normal girl and guy where sex isn't the center of their world?
There was something about this story that did not fit with me. It felt like the author was just trying to force these big grand feelings to fit in with this grand romance with these salt of the earth people feel and that just went too harlequin trying to be NA.
The slut shaming the h does in her inner thinking when she meets the prostitute at the party and the snap judgment she has for H's ex without even meeting her just did not make it good to be in her head. Together with abundance of insecurities and self-doubt following that insecurity that she projected onto their relationship, it was not an enjoyable read. It was hard to empathize with her as sometimes I even thought this book was taking place in high school and not college.
H too was just off in his way of thinking. When they go to meet his family and he describes himself and his family as "men with a heart of gold" that is not something one says about themselves, but others say about you. And that thing about the men of his family settling for right women and building just the best kind of families when his mother as we find out abandoned him.. It's just off in its interpretation.
I guess someone out there reviewing this book might be able to pin-point what is so off-putting by this seemingly mellow love story but all i can say is I finished (ahemem skipped to the end) this story with just a feeling of WTF. Annnnd just saw there is a series. Dudeeee this felt long enough how can there be more to tell about these two.

Before reading this, I had just read several books with ‘alpha males’, so Griffin was a blast of fresh air for me! He’s the big man on campus, but he’s not an arrogant jerk. In fact, this story doesn’t encompass his journey from player enjoying the life, to a guy who ‘settles down’ into monogamy with a woman. When Found by You starts, Griffin has already shed his partying ways and has realized that he doesn’t want his life like that. This is how a real relationship starts, with both Griffin and Roxie ready for a relationship. Griffin knows what he wants and how he pursues Roxie is just so sweet. (The man is just adorable in general!)
Roxie herself is much more quiet, but with an inner tough girl. She’s involved in a roller derby league(which is a sport that isn’t used enough in books!) and has a past of her own. Right from the start, you realize that Roxie has a backbone and throughout the novel she deals with things head on and isn’t afraid to go against the local bad girl . Pick this up if you want a book filled with a sweet hero and humor! Read now!

Yipee!!! Can't wait to read this New Adult tale from one of my favorite authors!! PS: I think I'm going to like Griffin ;-)
Griffin and Roxie are college seniors on different paths in life. Griffin is the All-American athlete that everyone wants to be around. Roxie is the quiet girl, happy with her circle of friends and staying under the radar. The breaking up of an altercation and the need to show gratitude, sets these two on a path to finding their HEA. Of course, that's not an easy road. They have to deal with jealous exes, boozing buddies, meeting families and a few other unforeseen obstacles. But, the relationship that they're building makes for a great foundation. There weren't any really hard topics covered here, but there were some that I feel Victoria covered in a very relatable manner. I can see myself reading more of this author's work.
Super fast paced basketball romance. I enjoyed it a lot and I enjoyed Roxie and Griffin’s relationship even if it was insta-loveish, I don’t mind that sometimes especially since we get a second book. Griffin is total southern boyfriend material ♥️

As a huge fan of The Space Between series by Victoria H. Smith, I was excited when I was able to read Found by You. Once again, Smith tackles diversity with this story of Roxie and Griffin, although this time it isn't their skin color that creates the majority of the problems. Griffin has an ex that's out for revenge and Roxie has a past that could ruin Griffin. I liked both Roxie and Griffin. Roxie may be quiet but she's tough when she needs to be, I loved how she always stood up for herself. For me, she just had too much going on with her past; nothing felt developed or explored enough. Griffin was a sweet guy and I like that he realized the things he did in his past weren't right. I enjoyed their relationship from the very first page, although I would have liked to have seen more of its growth. It seemed to progress quickly and jumped from one obstacle to the next. Some of the drama in the story was unique; I especially liked the basketball situation. It was extremely refreshing that this couple overcame their obstacles together. While this story wasn't my favorite of Smith’s, it was still a sweet new adult read.

What can I say....I LOVED THIS BOOK! I have read many books by Mrs. Smith and this one is at the top of the list! When I read this book, I was blown away by the chemistry between Roxie and Griffin. They are my new favorite book couple! This book deals with real issues and fits perfectly in the New Adult Genre!
Who doesn't love a hot jock?!?! Griffin and his Texas roots were awesome! He was sooooo smexy! He had such a genuine spirit and holy hotness! I loved how he knew what he wanted and wasn't ashamed to go and get, regardless of what anyone thought!
And that Tanya!!!!!! Ugh!
Badass Roxie was great! She was human and flawed, but she was loving and compassionate. She did frustrate me from time to time, but that's what made her a great character. I'm not going to go into what all happens, but if you love a real love story..read this book!
Meet Roxie, a roller derby college student with a rough past and some very intriguing secrets from both her past and her present. Roxie has a crush on Griffin, captain of the basketbell team who is NBA bound, but she is sure that he would never notice someone like her. Then in the early hours of one morning, just as trouble starts brewing, Roxie and Griffin officially meet and from that point find their lives entwined throught no control of their own. Roxie fights hard to keep away from Griffin as she doesn't want him to uncover her secrets, but soon discovers Griffin has a past that isn't perfect either and could cause his future to come crashing down around him. Although this is a sports related novel, don't be thrown off if you are not a sports fan. Victoria Smith has provided insight into behind the scenes and the goings on at colleges rather than the on court action. This is a well read and edited book and will keep you turning the pages to find out what is coming next! A great read. This book was read as an ARC.
A truly heart tugging story, Victoria H. Smith is such a fluid and brilliant writer, she made me think I am Roxie. Such emphatic writing, delving into deep psyche of the protagonists. Two characters on different spectrum of social strata, yet similar in quest for finding a nurturing and accepting relationship. Upon unfolding of each other "shameful" secret, I like that Roxie in the defensive mode paraphrased " he who is without sin, cast the first stone" then unravel to deep-seated longing to be noticed. The vow of not hurting each other that forced the lovers to confront their problems together as a couple. Griffin is my new hero, going against the tide and his tenacious pursuit of Roxie will truly melt your insides and wish you have a lover like Griffin. I would love to see more of them, part 2 please!!!
I never, never write reviews, but I was graciously gifted an ARC of this book, so it's the least I could do for such an awesome read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and like a previous reviewer mentioned, the hero and heroin of the story are truly a breath of fresh air. Roxie and Griffin are college seniors who have more in common than meets the eye. I was totally caught up in the relationship between Roxie and Griffin. Their romance is real, sweet, and HOT. Achieving all 3 is a feat in itself. There is chemistry from the start, and in fact, as the story unfolds the bond between Roxie and Griffin only intensifies. The conflicts and drama that the characters endure had my stomach in knots, but I loved how the author resolved their issues. It's a great read, and has quickly become one of my favorites.
Found by You by Victoria H. Smith is one of those love stories that I really like--two flawed people whose initial spark is electrifying trying to deal with everything life (and other people) throw at them. I liked that Roxie was a derby girl--it's not often that we read about black women who like (let alone practice) roller derby. I also loved that she was not one of these toned-to-perfection women. Roxie was a normal young woman whose issues with feeling invisible led to her making choices that maybe others won't agree with. Her initial reserve with Griffin had more to do with others' preconceived notions of the sort of woman he should be dating rather than the color of her skin--which was nice a nice twist.
I loved following Roxie and Griffin's story and I am looking forward to delving into the next book in the Loved by You series.
Victoria has done it again! This book was amazing! I loved watching Roxie and Griffin explore their feelings for one another, overcoming personal hang-ups, and weathering their fair share of storms along the way. When skeletons from their pasts threaten to steal their chance to truly be happy together, the pair are forced to face their demons head on and hope that what they have is strong enough to withstand. You will not be disappointed. Griffin and Roxie's love story is one you WILL NOT want to miss!!!
This was honestly an amazing book I was hooked. 3am rolls in I'm still reading Whispering "sleep is for the weak" It let you Relate to Roxie because unlike other books where the main character was perfect and made the reader feel horrible about them self roxie was easy to relate to. I also loved how The Author Gave both points of views from the main characters. Twilight has nothing on this book.:)
Interracial Romance A to Z Challenge: F #PopsugarReadingChallenge 2019 Prompt - A book that makes you nostalgic
This was every edgy teen/new adult drama that I loved growing up. I'm talking Beverly Hills, 90210, Melrose Place, Savannah, My So-Called Life, and Swan's Crossing, so you know I'm well into my 30s. This was a fun trip, with an alpha hero that wasn't a complete tool and a heroine that was smart, funny and relatable; and a romance that, given how much I adore soap operas and their absurdity, that I could get lost in. I'm definitely checking out the rest of the series.
I’m gonna be generous and give this a very weak 3⭐️! And that’s me being super generous!!
It was oookkaaayy but the more the story went on the more ridiculous it felt!! Sometimes less is more, also I fell like this would have been better with possibly another round of edits as there were several spelling and grammar mistakes.
3.5 🌟 This was cute, I enjoyed this, it was just all positive vibes. I loved both Roxie and Griffin. 💟💟💟 It did wrap up quite quickly I thought and the resolution for the "plot" was very anticlimactic but I enjoyed it so didn't bother me that much.
It was an ok read, pretty fast pace which I like sometimes but also I don't at the same time. The spice was there but definitely not one of my favorites.
***I was gifted an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review***
I was first introduced to this author's work when I read her other NA Romance novel, The Space Between. I enjoyed it so much that I was excited for the chance to get an early look at her latest novel, Found by You.
I finished this book the other day but I had to sit down and think about what I wanted to say before I put up my review. If you're looking for a story that deals with issues that aren't really talked about in NA novels (at least, not that I'm aware of) and if you're tired seeing arrogant, alpha male love interests then this is definitely the book for you. Griffin was a breath of fresh air, literally. He wasn't arrogant or dominating or anything like that. And if I had to pick one word to describe him, I would choose sweet. He is genuinely a nice person and seeing the relationship between Roxie/Griffin unfold from both of their POVs made this book an enjoyable read.
I cared about these characters so much, that I was rooting for them up until the end. Also, the romance is steamy, the main characters are three dimensional, and the storyline in and of itself is addicting. I could not put it down once I started reading it and neither will you.
I only gave this novel four out of five stars because I really wished that some of the secondary characters were fleshed out a little bit more. Maybe it's just the writer in me but I like for all of the characters I read about to be just as real as the main characters, even if they are not present in every chapter. I also wanted to know more about the main characters and I wish that there were more scenes that delved deeper into the lives of Roxie/Griffin.
Overall, this was a great read and if you're ready to read something new in NA Romance, then add Found by You to your TBR lists. You won't regret it. :)
