Guy Pearce is already prepared to lose at the upcoming 2025 Oscars!

The 57-year-old actor is nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his work in The Brutalist, and is up against Anora‘s Yura Borisov, A Real Pain‘s Kieran Culkin, A Complete Unkown‘s Edward Norton and The Apprentice‘s Jeremy Strong.

In a new interview, Guy reveals he’s had an acceptance speech ready, but after the way the awards season has been going, he’s accepting that he’ll likely lose the Oscar to Kieran Culkin.

With just days to go before the 2025 Oscar ceremony, Anora is still Gold Derby's pick to win Best Picture, despite losing to Conclave at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday.

Sean Baker's risqué independent film, about a Brooklyn sex worker (Mikey Madison) who marries the son of a Russian oligarch, claimed three key precursors in recent weeks at the Producers Guild, Directors Guild, and Writers Guild. The only contender that historically won all three of those specific prizes and failed to take the Best Picture Oscar was Brokeback Mountain (2005). The Ang Lee film infamously lost to Crash, which won the SAG Award for Best Cast.

As for Edward Berger’s fictional tale chronicling the scandals within the Vatican following the pope's death, it's now in the runner-up position to win Best Picture. Conclave's back-to-back victories at the SAG Awards (Best Cast) and BAFTA (Best Film) are hard to ignore.

The SAG-afra Awards took place on Sunday night, February 23, hosted by Kristen Bell, and featuring many star-studded introducers, such as Quinta Brunson, Zooey Deschanel, Max Greenfield, Kerry Washington and many more.

Top nominees included Wicked, which entered the night with five nominations, A Complete Unknown with four nominations and Emilia Pérez close behind the other two with three nominations.

Mikey Madison’s Anora was surprisingly shut out of the award ceremony, despite dominating at the Spirit Awards on Saturday and Madison receiving a BAFTA Award for her performance.

As always, the awards have triggered a slew of upset fans protesting the night’s winners. A particularly scorned decision was Martin Short being awarded Male Actor in a Comedy Series, after beating out competition such as Jeremy Allen White from The Bear.

Exclusive: The Film Independent Spirit Awards are moving from the Santa Monica beach as soon as next year. We hear that it’s due to the buildout for the 2028 Summer Olympics and that the cycling events could be stationed at the beach.

The relocation is effective as soon as next year for the 41st ceremony. The Spirits are in discussions for other venues, but we hear that there is every intention to return to that Santa Monica Beach location as soon as the org is able. A rep for the Spirits did not return Deadline’s request for comment.

There was that time when the Spirits shifted the 25th ceremony in 2010 to downtown Los Angeles. Attendees missed the largely sunny beach vibes of the tented lunch-and-cocktail affair. In fact, in the past, such nominees such as 2000’s Best Actress winner Hilary Swank would bike to the awards show.

For the second straight year, Netflix live-streamed the Screen Actors Guild Awards. The experience went extremely well, proving once again that the streamer is getting ever-better at such events. Maybe the SAG Awards won't bring the same viewing numbers as an NFL game, but the ceremony is just as worthy of a watch.

Netflix also came away with two winners on Sunday. Anora continues to pick up speed heading into the Oscars, scoring Critics Choice Awards and DGA wins and snagging a Best Feature win at the Film Independent Spirit Awards. Anora also captured Best Director (Sean Baker) and Best Lead Performance (Mikey Madison) wins. The 2025 Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards turned the race for the Oscars upside down, with unexpected results that have left Hollywood buzzing. While the ballots for the Academy Awards were already submitted, the SAG outcomes, announced Sunday night, highlighted the unpredictability of this year’s race. There were tremendous moments in the Screen Actors Guild Awards broadcast — for instance, Jane Fonda’s lengthy and complex acceptance speech for her lifetime achievement award. But every such moment seemed oddly abbreviated or complicated. Fonda was interrupted, randomly, by an announcer’s voice ushering her off mid-sentence, before she went on to urge fellow attendees to act as if they were in a documentary about historical prejudice, because, as the Trump administration disassembles the federal government, she said, “this is our documentary moment.”

Especially in its early going, the ceremony felt glitchy and ad-hoc, a sad thing for one of the three major televised awards broadcasts — and the one that, this year, falls a week before the Oscars. Conclave took the marquee Ensemble in a Motion Picture prize at the 31st annual SAG Awards, which were handed out tonight at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. The papal drama from Focus Features, which won Best Film at the recent BAFTA Awards, is up for eight Academy Awards next weekend.

The category is SAG’s version of Best Picture and, as often as not, has produced some interesting upsets that sent movies such as Parasite, Coda and others on to Best Picture Oscar glory. All of SAG’s Ensemble nominees also are up for the top Academy Award.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards presented its coveted actor statuettes at the 31st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, honouring outstanding stunt, individual, cast and ensemble performances for the past year. The 31st Annual SAG Awards, produced by Silent House Productions in partnership with SAG-AFTRA, was held at the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles.

Actor and producer Kristen Bell returned to host the ceremony (she became the event’s inaugural host back in 2018) and opened with “Do You Want to be an Actor?” — a spoof of her Frozen song — which poked fun at the trials and tribulations of the profession while highlighting famous faces in early career roles and commercials. The winners for the 31st Screen Actors Guild Awards were unveiled on Sunday, February 23rd, with awards being handed out equally on the film front and Shōgun leading in the TV categories. Going into the ceremony, Wicked led the film nominations with five, while Shōgun had just as many for television.

The 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards celebrated the best performances of the year in both movies and television.

Celebs from all around the world gathered for the annual event on Sunday (February 23) at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

Wicked led the nominations this year with five nods and Shogun led the television categories, also with five nominations.

SAG Awards 2025: The 31st Screen Actors Guild Awards is one of the prestigious awards in Hollywood. The red carpet event of these award ceremonies is as important as the main ceremony. Actors share much information about their work or other stuff, but that depends on how they are interviewed; this year, Lilly Singh and Sasheer Zamata. However, Singh is criticized and called cringeworthy for her interview with Jane Fonda and Kieran Culkin.

For the unversed, Fonda was the 60th SAG Life Achievement Award recipient and was the first celeb Singh spoke to during the red carpet event. It started casually when the host asked Fonda about her custom Armani gown. But gradually, things went downhill with the veteran star’s unenthusiastic responses.

Lilly Singh asked Jane Fonda for advice on young actresses, but Jane Fonda’s response was low-energy.

Kieran Culkin won the award for best actor in a supporting role Sunday night at the 2025 SAG Awards.

Pamela Anderson presented Culkin with the statue, which he noted was an “incredibly heavy award” before poking fun at the length of Adrien Brody’s acceptance speeches. “I don’t think anyone could hold this for 45 seconds, which would be a lot of time, Adrien Brody,” he quipped. “There was no reason to take that shot. I love you, it’s a joke, you take your time.”

Culkin continued his comedic approach throughout his acceptance speech, joking that “Believe it or not, [winning] this actually means a lot to me” before giving thanks to Jesse Eisenberg and most importantly Eisenberg’s sister, Hallie, for entrusting him with the role of Benji Kaplan in A Real Pain.

FX’s Shōgun won for Best Ensemble in a Drama Series, as stars Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai grabbed gold for Best Drama Actor and Actress. Kieran Culkin is a winner!

The 42-year-old actor won the award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role for his role in A Real Pain at the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday (February 23) at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

While up on stage, Kieran spent almost his entire acceptance speech hilariously rambling about how “incredibly heavy” the SAG statue is.

Huge Oscar favorite Kieran Culkin won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Supporting Actor on Sunday for his performance as the spirited but tortured Benji Kaplan in Jesse Eisenberg's seriocomic buddy pic A Real Pain. Far less predictable was the fact Culkin showed up to accept the honor, unlike at BAFTA, Critics Choice, and the Independent Spirit Awards (which took place the day before the SAG Awards).

When he claimed his statuette in person recently, Culkin tended to be a bit on the free-associative side. For example, at the Golden Globes in January, his speech included the following: "My wife and I did this shot of tequila with Mario Lopez. ... Definitely feelin' that. Whole speech is gone. Rip it, Kieran" and "Couple quick thank-yous and then I'll piss off."

Kieran Culkin is no stranger to awards show acceptance speeches — so he isn’t afraid to poke fun at his fellow winners for taking too much time on the podium.

“Thank you for this incredibly heavy award,” Culkin (“A Real Pain”) said on Sunday night while accepting the SAG Award for male actor in a supporting role. “I don’t think there’s any way anyone can hold this for 45 seconds… which is the allotted time, Adrien Brody!”

He laughed before immediately clarifying that he was joking: “There was no reason to take that shot. I love you. Take your time.”

Brody, a frontrunner in this year’s lead actor category for A24’s historical epic “The Brutalist,” took the jest in stride, chuckling from his seat in the audience.

In “A Real Pain,” Culkin and Jesse Eisenberg play mismatched cousins who take a Holocaust tour in Poland to honor their late grandmother.

Kristen Bell returned as host of the Screen Actors Guild Awards for the first time since 2018 and opened by acknowledging the horrific wildfires that engulfed Los Angeles last month.

"This city and the people in it have been put through the wringer," she told the crowd of A-listers. "Our most attractive tables are right over there," she added while pointing to a group of Lafd firefighters seated among the celebrities. The fires broke out on Jan. 7, prompted the guild to cancel the live in-person nomination announcement scheduled for the following day, and replace it with a press release.

“Wicked” went into the show leading all films with five nominations, followed by “A Complete Unknown” with four and “Anora” and “Emilia Perez” with two.

In the television categories, “Shōgun” led with five nominations, followed by “The Bear” with four and “The Diplomat” and “The Penguin” with three.

Over the 30-year history of the SAG Awards, individual winners in the film categories have gone on to win Academy Awards for acting 75% of the time. All four SAG winners have repeated at the Oscars 10 times, with eight of those times coming in the last 15 years.

The winning film in the SAG Awards’ ensemble-cast category has won the Oscar for Best Picture about half the time, including the last three years in a row and four times in the last five years.

The 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards are underway Sunday night, one week before the Oscars crown its winners.

Universal’s Broadway adaptation “Wicked” and FX/Hulu’s Japanese drama “Shogun” led the film and TV categories with five nominations each at the SAG Awards. The Screen Actors Guild honors the outstanding motion picture and television performances of 2024 tonight at the 31st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, held at the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall.

Heading towards next month’s Academy Awards, Sean Baker’s Anora has been on a complete rebound, taking over awards season via the WGA, DGA and PGA. Now, it has added the Independent Spirit Awards to that list, taking home three at yesterday’s ceremony: Best Feature, Best Director for Baker and Best Lead Performance for Mikey Madison. The Independent Spirit Awards recognized Anora with three major wins, including Best Feature, Best Director for Sean Baker, and Best Lead Performance for Mikey Madison. The film, which follows a Brooklyn sex worker’s whirlwind relationship with the son of a Russian oligarch, has drawn increasing attention this awards season.

Jesse Eisenberg won Best Screenplay for A Real Pain, while Kieran Culkin was awarded Best Supporting Performance for the same film. Other major winners included No Other Land in the documentary category and Flow for Best International Film.
