  • PCC Simon Foster joined the West Midlands Association of Muslim Police for their Annual Community Iftar. The event was one of the busiest in the West Midlands Police calendar and it raised the largest amount of money the force has ever raised in one night. Over 300 people joined to open fast together at the Lord Knights Suite in Tally Ho! An annual event, this was the largest ever held and had the most diverse attendance. This included people from many different faiths and non, colleagues, community leaders, members and families, as well as a range of agencies represented. A number of awards were also given out recognising the contribution made throughout the year by people within West Midlands Police and our communities. All money raised on the night went to charity which totalled a record-breaking £12,437 (and counting). This is the largest amount ever raised at a force event. Proceeds from the event were donated to Islamic Help, a local charity working on building the lives of children suffering from poverty and the traumas related to this. You can still help raise money with The Ramadan Experience: An initiative being ran where we invite colleagues to fast for one or more days in Ramadan to understand this journey. The average amount of we would spend on lunch (£5) is donated to charity. • The Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Foster is calling on small businesses in Birmingham to help tackle domestic and sexual abuse. PCC Simon Foster is working with companies to make sure they know how to signpost potential victims to support services and how to respond if they suspect a member of their staff is being harmed at home. The PCC also wants businesses to ensure they provide the right physical or online spaces in which to have confidential conversations with staff they might be concerned are at risk of harm. The campaign called ‘Things we can do’ acknowledges that small businesses are often at very different stages in terms of being ready to offer support. The eight simple tips shared in the campaign draw on the West Midlands Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault and Abuse Standards and provide clear guidance on what businesses, regardless of size, should consider. This includes identifying roles and responsibilities, signposting support services, and providing the right physical/online spaces in which to have confidential conversations. • 🚨 The West Midlands Police & Crime Commissioner, Simon Foster, is pleased to announce that Smethwick police base has been saved from closure after new plans to retain the site are agreed 🤝 The adjoining buildings were due to be put up for sale. However, it has now been confirmed that the site – a former courthouse between Piddock Road and Crocketts Lane – will be retained as a police base for up to 80 local police officers 🚔 "This will ensure the Neighbourhood and Response teams remain within the community they serve, which is exactly where they need to be," he says. "The new police base will be fit for the 21st century, it will be a more effective and efficient use of police resources and ensure value for money for the taxpayer. “All of that will mean West Midlands Police will be better placed to prevent and tackle crime, keep people, families, businesses and the local community safe and secure and it delivers on my pledge to continue to re-build community policing." The retained base in Smethwick will be home to 24/7 emergency response officers and two neighbourhood Sandwell Police teams and PCSOs who will continue to oversee the town. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eDneJXUE
