Wikimedia Foundation’s Post

From Edmonton, Canada, to Assam, India, a small idea sparked big change 🌏🍁 When Joli Rumi, an Assamese Wikimedian thousands of miles from home, noticed a challenge – too few active contributors in that community – she had an idea to create a mentorship program. WikiSanjog is a program connecting experienced Assamese Wikimedians with newcomers eager to contribute. Over three months, 18 mentors guided 58 mentees, leading to almost 20,000 edits, 200+ new Wikipedia articles, and a thriving community passionate about preserving Assamese language and heritage. The journey culminated in the First Assamese WikiSanjog Conference, where mentors and mentees met to celebrate their impact. But this is just the beginning: WikiSanjog has inspired an ongoing mentorship model, ensuring that new editors always have guidance.
