Wikimedia Foundation’s Post

Postcards have sparked an unexpected connection between Bolivia and Mangaluru, India. After Wikimania 2024, Carla (User:Carlillasa) returned to Bolivia with more than memories – she brought postcards from a contest she had never heard of: Wiki Loves Mangaluru. Curious, she discovered its striking similarity to Wikimixtura, Bolivia’s own cultural photography contest. Both initiatives document underrepresented traditions, from Bolivian crafts and dances to Mangaluru’s festivals and cuisine. This shared passion led to a unique collaboration. Carla invited Santhosh Notagar, Wiki Loves Mangaluru’s coordinator, to help judge Wikimixtura’s latest edition on Bolivian crafts. The experience fostered cultural exchange beyond photos – revealing parallels in art, heritage, and community values. Now, the Bolivian and Mangaluru Wikimedia groups are planning future projects that bridge cultures through Wikimedia, celebrating the rich traditions that shape our world.
