1dLuis Matos went 2-for-3 with a solo homer in the Giants’ win over the Astros on Wednesday.

Matos also drew a walk, and his 2025 campaign has started — emphasis on started — with a slash of .400/.455/.800. He is a player that does offer some prospect pedigree and it’s worth nothing that Matos doesn’t turn 24 until next January, so while betting on a breakout campaign seems like a bad process, the result can’t be completely ruled out.

1dWilmer Flores hit a two-run homer Wednesday while helping the Giants to a 6-3 win over the Astros.

Flores has already matched his homer total of last year. That’s both compliment to his work over this first week of the season, and a bit of an insult to his work in 2024. This is obviously not sustainable, but a major win for those fantasy managers who took a chance on Flores to begin 2025.

1dCamilo Doval didn’t allow a hit over a scoreless inning while being credited for a save Wednesday against the Astros.

Doval already is up to two saves, which is probably two more saves than managers were anticipating in April since Ryan Walker is the presumed closer. Since Walker has been dealing with tightness in his back and worked during Tuesday’s game the Giants turned to Doval, and he had no issues converting the opportunity. Doval has the stuff to be an upper-echelon closer, but it’s hard to see enough opportunities to justify a roster spot just yet.

1dLanden Roupp didn’t factor into the decision after giving up four runs in four innings with eight strikeouts against the Astros on Wednesday.

Roupp’s punchouts were nice, but that along with four walks meant he needed 83 pitches to get through his four frames. He did generate 14 swings and misses, however, and he mostly avoided hard contact. If the walks can be kept to a low roar, Roupp has a chance to be a successful option. He’ll get a chance to do that Tuesday against the Reds.

2dHeliot Ramos slugged his third home run of the season on Tuesday night, powering the Giants to a 3-1 victory over the Astros in Houston.

Ramos did his damage in the fourth inning of this one, taking a 1-2 sweeper from Hayden Wesneski and pulling it for a 364-foot (108.3 mph EV) solo shot into the Crawford boxes in left field. The 25-year-old outfielder has been sizzling at the plate to open the 2025 campaign, hitting .286 (6-for-21) with three homers, five RBI and a stolen base in his first five contests.

2dWilly Adames smacked a go-ahead two-run double on Tuesday night, helping to lead the Giants to victory over the Astros.

Adames opened the scoring in the third inning with his two-run double off of Hayden Wesneski after Patrick Bailey and Christian Koss had walked. That would be the 29-year-old shortstop’s only hit in four at-bats on the evening. His Giants’ career has gotten off to a bit of a slow start, slashing just .158/.190/.211 with zero homers and three RBI.

2dRyan Walker slammed the door on the Astros on Tuesday night, working a scoreless ninth inning to protect a two-run advantage.

Walker didn’t show any ill effects of the back tightness that sidelined him over the weekend, needing just 13 pitches (nine strikes) to retire Isaac Paredes, Yordan Alvarez and Christian Walker in succession. The 29-year-old right-hander has now converted each of his first two save chances while compiling a 3.00 ERA, 0.67 WHIP and 2/1 K/BB ratio across his first three innings.

Logan Webb

SF Starting Pitcher #62

2dLogan Webb delivered a dominant performance in Tuesday’s victory over the Astros, allowing just one run on five hits over seven strong innings.

The right-hander racked up six strikeouts on the night and didn’t allow a single base on balls. The only blemish on his night came on a Crawford box solo shot that he surrendered to Jose Altuve in the fourth inning. Webb got 12 swings and misses on 100 pitches on the night — four on his sweeper — while posting a CSW of 30 percent. He’ll carry a 3.00 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and an 11/3 K/BB ratio (12 innings) into Monday’s matchup against the Reds.

3dMatt Chapman went 1-for-3 with two RBI in a win over the Astros on Monday.

Chapman gave the Giants a five-run cushion with a two-run single in the ninth. He also drew a pair of walks. Chapman was spectacular this spring, and so far it’s carried over into the games that actually count.

3dWilmer Flores hit a three-run homer and drove in four runs in a win over the Giants on Monday.

Flores essentially put the game away with a three-run blast in the sixth off Luis Contreras. That’s already the third homer of the season for Contreras, which puts him one behind his total of 2024 in 242 plate appearances. Don’t expect the power supply to continue throughout the campaign, but Flores is obviously picking up the baseball well right now.
