1dMacKenzie Gore gave up three runs and nine hits in five innings Wednesday in a loss to the Blue Jays.

Gore failed to excel in the followup to his spectacular Opening Day start, but he wasn’t bad in striking out five and walking two. Only four of the nine hits he allowed came on hard-hit balls, and the 368-foot homer he gave up to George Springer would have stayed in play in 17 ballparks. Gore will get the Dodgers next, making him a less-than-ideal play in mixed leagues.

Michael Soroka

WSH Starting Pitcher #34

1dMichael Soroka (biceps) is expected to start Sunday’s game against the Diamondbacks.

Campbell left Monday’s start against the Blue Jays with cramps in his biceps, but for now, the Nationals are confident that the injury won’t be a long-term issue. If Soroka has any sort of setback, there’s a very good chance the Nationals will change their tune, but for now he’s on track to make his next start.

1dLuis Garcia Jr. is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

Garcia has taken a seat in both games that the Nationals have faced left-handed starters. He’ll take a break with Amed Rosario getting the start at second. Jacob Young is also getting a rest with Alex Call starting in right.

1dNationals 3B prospect Brady House went 2-for-5 with two RBI in Tuesday’s game for Triple-A Rochester.

The 21-year-old former first-round pick had a solid spring with the Nationals, going 7-for-21 in his 18 spring training games. He’s now 4-for-14 (.286) with a triple, three runs scored, and two RBI in his first three Triple-A games. A call-up isn’t imminent, but Paul DeJong is just a placeholder at third base in Washington, so a summer promotion for House would be likely if he continues to perform.

Shinnosuke Ogasawara

1dShinnosuke Ogasawara allowed one run on five hits in six innings while striking out six en route to winning his first game for Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old Japanese native failed to make the Nationals’ starting rotation out of spring training, but an early injury to DJ Herz means that he’s probably the next man up should the big league club need a starting pitcher. The injury scare to Michael Soroka on Monday night also highlights just how quickly Ogasawara might get a chance. The left-hander is not a hard-thrower and relies on precise command of a deep arsenal in order to get whiffs and soft contact. He probably would not be a recommended streamer outside of NL-only formats.

Trevor Williams

WSH Starting Pitcher #32

2dTrevor Wiliams surrendered three runs and 10 hits in five innings Tuesday against the Blue Jays.

This is the Williams we remember, not the guy who somehow never gave up more than six hits in any of his 13 starts last year. All of the knocks were singles, and he didn’t walk anyone, so he was able to keep the Nationals in the game. However, while the offense was able to tie the game at 3-3 in the seventh, the bullpen lost it from there.

CJ Abrams

WSH Shortstop #5

2dCJ Abrams went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a steal versus the Blue Jays on Tuesday.

Abrams also homered Monday off Bowden Francis. That was the hardest-hit ball of his career, checking in at 112.7 mph, and one of his hits tonight wasn’t too far behind at 111.1 mph. Abrams had 20 homers in 602 plate appearances last season, and it seems he might be a little stronger now; he’s probably a little underrated in fantasy leagues.

Robert Hassell III

WSH Center Fielder #57

2dNationals OF prospect Robert Hassell III went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base on Tuesday for Triple-A Rochester.

Hassell has picked up right where he left off after an impressive spring, hitting .357 (5-for-14) with one steal through three games. The 23-year-old former top prospect is putting himself back on fantasy manager’s radar screens with his recent performance, but it’ll be challenging for his patience and speed profile to succeed at the highest level.

Dylan Crews

WSH Right Fielder #3

2dDylan Crews is not in the lineup for Tuesday’s showdown against the Blue Jays.

It’ll be Alex Call in right field on Tuesday night. Crews has gotten off to an ice-cold start at the plate this season, going 0-for-15 with 10 strikeouts through four games. It’s an extremely small sample size, so fantasy managers shouldn’t panic. The 23-year-old top prospect is one of the most well-rounded young players in the game. His biggest strength is that he seems to have zero apparent weaknesses. The strikeouts are a bit concerning, but the hope is that a mental reset will enable him to get back on track. Patience.

Michael Soroka

WSH Starting Pitcher #34

3dMichael Soroka was removed from Monday’s start against the Blue Jays with bicep cramps.

Nationals manager Dave Martinez told reporters afterwards that Soroka will be re-evaluated on Tuesday, but the club is hopeful he’s not dealing with anything serious. It’s a positive update after the 27-year-old righty was lifted from his season debut after just 83 pitches. He’s tentatively scheduled to take the ball on Sunday against the Diamondbacks.
