No city does Fashion Week like Paris, the center of the luxury industry’s universe. But where do editors and buyers go between shows or after a long day of re-sees when they just want a comfort meal?
We asked Steff Yotka, the hardworking New York–based editor known for her sharp takes on fashion and her enviable collection of Chopova Lowena skirts. She’s covered the shows in Paris for seven years — first for Vogue, then Ssense, and now in her new role as the global editorial director of i-D magazine. This week in Paris, she celebrated the launch of i-D’s first issue under its new ownership (model Karlie Kloss) and new editorial team (led by Thom Bettridge) at a dinner hosted by designer Rick Owens and Michèle Lamy. As the week wrapped up, Yotka shared her best tips for shopping, eating, and running around Paris.
What is your go-to morning coffee?
I love The Coffee, which serves a giant cold brew. Very essential for PFW.
What is your go-to museum for a quick break?
Musée d’Orsay is my favorite museum in the world. I love the feeling of being transported to another time inside, imagining Paris as it was when the Impressionists were painting it.
What is your go-to lunch in a pinch?
A quick lunch is so hard in Paris, but I trust Le Mary Celeste’s deviled eggs every time. Or, if I have a little more time, the sushi lunch special at Ryo.
What is your go-to place to pop in for a beauty product?
I am addicted to Caudalie and end up with a giant haul after every trip. The Vinoperfect Serum has been a staple of my beauty regimen since my first trip to Paris as a teenager.
What is your go-to cobbler for a quick shoe fix?
Never needed one! I’ve been wearing the same giant Prada oxfords for five years — they are indestructible. They are the most worn shoes of my life. Nothing compares. Perfect for pounding the pavement.
What is your go-to Fashion Week tailor?
Pants ripped? Go to Dover Street Market Paris and buy a new outfit! I actually bought a white Comme des Garçons dress for my engagement party there. It also helps that Nick Tran, the head of merchandise, does such an amazing buy. There are some Edward Cuming leg warmers and Abra shoes on my wish list this spring.
What is your go-to for picking up a gift for a fashion friend’s dinner party?
Deyrolle, a mini natural history museum and taxidermy shop that sells everything from art books to stuffed cockatoos. A framed butterfly or beetle is a great gift for any occasion.
What is your go-to dinner restaurant?
Bistrot Mee or Yen. I love the kimchi rice at Bistrot Mee: It is absolutely restorative after a huge day of fashion shows. And as a bonus, my friend Ibtissame lives nearby, so it makes eating there even better because I can easily pressure her to come with me! At Yen, the menu changes often, so I recommend trying one of everything.
