Kansas City Chiefs History

The Kansas City Chiefs were founded as the Dallas Texans in 1959 by businessman, sports pioneer and American Football League founder Lamar Hunt. The team moved to Kansas City before the 1963 season and were renamed the Chiefs. The team found success early on, winning three AFL championships in the 1960s to become the team with the most championships in the AFL. In 1970, the club joined the NFL when it merged with the AFL. That year, the team won its first AFL-NFL championship in Super Bowl IV against the Minnesota Vikings, beating them 23-7.

The Chiefs have had 25 individuals inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and have produced five Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award winners — tied for the most of any team.

Head Coach Andy Reid joined the team in 2013, and under his leadership, the Chiefs have made the playoffs consistently. The club won the AFC West from 2016 to 2024 and clinched championship titles at Super Bowl LIV in 2020, Super Bowl LVII in 2023 and Super Bowl LVIII in 2024.

Kansas City Chiefs at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium

Opened in 1972, GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium has a capacity of 76,416. As one of the first stadiums developed after the AFL merged with the NFL, Arrowhead was a leader in stadium design. It introduced the use of arrows on the yard markers at the goal line (eventually becoming a requirement in the NFL), and was the first to be a part of the two-stadium Truman Sports Complex.

GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium is also known to be one of the loudest stadiums in the league. In 2014, fans set a Guinness World Record for stadium noise, registering a sound of 142.2 decibels during a game against the New England Patriots.

  • Game good - Parking bad.

by Parking Pass Transfer on 12/19/25GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium - Kansas CityRating: 3 out of 5

Purchase of game tickets worked fine and we had no problems. This was not the case for parking passes. When you're not allowed to transfer parking passes on the app it's a problem. I bought more than one pass and the second car was forced to follow right behind me since I couldn't transfer the 2nd pass to them. This makes navigating congested traffic even worse. Would have been helpful to know before purchase that I could not transfer the parking pass.

  • Stadium Tour

by Patty on 12/11/25GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium - Kansas CityRating: 3 out of 5

We paid (a large sum of money) for the 4 of us to experience the stadium tour before the game. Our parking pass was in the Gold lot, so when we got to the stadium we looked for signs to know where to go. We had to ask several employees, each time being given different directions, before we found the line, on the opposite side from where we started. At 5:00 we were admitted through security to a gathering space and were assigned a guide who took us into the stadium and we were told we had plenty of time to use the restrooms because it would be 20 minutes or so before we could begin the tour. He then lead us through the public spaces to see the trophies and other information while weaving through the crowds explaining some of the history of the beginnings of the Chiefs team. At each stop we lingered quite awhile until we were lead to the penthouse to see the field from that point of view. That was interesting, but I felt that for the price we paid for the tour we should have seen the offices and locker rooms/cheerleader rooms and most importantly been allowed to access the field ON THE CHIEFS SIDE, before the tour was over. It was understandable, being game day, that we were not allowed to see the locker rooms, however, for the price, I feel we should have been allowed on the field on the Chiefs side, rather than the opponents side, and at least a closer experience with the players. I expected for the price we paid to at least get a pic with one of the players. In my opinion, the tour we received was worth $100, no more, and I didn't leave our guide a tip at all...hope he's paid well!

  • Best time ever

by Mary C on 11/28/25GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

This was our first experience at Arrowhead Stadium and it was awesome! Everything was perfect! We had no issues with our electronic tickets from Ticketmaster, and I also bought the electronic parking pass, which came in very very handy! I bought the gold pass for parking and we got to park really close to the stadium.

  • Gold parking pass is not woerhit

Getting in and proximity was ok but getting out was horrendous. Red lot is better for a lot less. Our friends got home an hour earlier than we did and they had no trouble getting in.

We drove 15 hours to see the Chiefs play at Arrowhead stadium. The trip was well worth it. The fans were very courteous and the game was exciting to watch in person.

  • Great Arrowhead experience, despite the WFT loss

by BJ on 10/30/25GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

We had a great experience at Arrowhead, one of the best fan experience at an NFL stadium. Access to parking lots and stadium entrance was pretty smooth w/o delays. We purchased the Gold Parking Pass that got us close to the stadium gate entrances. Albeit an older stadium the seating, field view and fan experience throughout was great. It was Salute to Service so a lot of great tributes to those who served. Food and beverage was good quality and easily accessible
