Talk:Israel announces ceasefire in Gaza Strip; rocket fire into Israel continues
Add topicOR
[edit]I watched the news conference on Al Jazeera live. Awaiting other sources, though not required. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 21:13, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- Was it decided that "I watched it on TV" counts as OR? Anyway, the BBC are reporting it now (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/7835794.stm) so I'll add that. Adambro (talk) 21:15, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- I was told that it was the same as being at the news conference. We have done this on more than several occassions. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 21:16, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- Info on rocket fire was from live footage by Sonara agency: mms://media2.sonara.net/online2 (paste into browser...may take several tries to load as many people watching. Yes there is an ad at the beginning, but the feed is past it). DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 21:16, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- OR is pretty much redundant now sources are becoming available. Adambro (talk) 21:19, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- That is not the point really. The sources were not available when I wrote it. The whole point of having OR is to use it. God forbid we actually go to a press conference sometime and we HAVE to remove OR because there are sources? Since when? DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 21:40, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Who is Sarkozy? The name is mentioned only once with no introduction. 76.10.149.61 22:33, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Hamas issued a statement following the press conference saying the ceasefire is not enough and that their "resistance" will continue.

Verb tense
[edit]Currently, the first sentences of the article give an impression that the ceasefire hasn't started yet. Should they be edited so that the verb tense reflects today's situation, e.g. "Ehud Olmert announced yesterday that Israel would 'unilaterally' ceasefire in their offensive in the Gaza Strip on Sunday at 2:00 a.m.", or better yet, "Israel started a unilateral ceasefire today at 2 a.m. local time"? --PeeKoo (talk) 15:41, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Old news is old!
[edit]Time to remove it from lead or update article and title? international (talk) 17:47, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
Awkward sentence
[edit]To the sentence "Israel claims it began its offensive in order to stop rockets that Hamas was firing into Israel" I added "which Hamas does because Israel blocks transport into the Gaza Strip, which Israel does because those transports may include such rockets", which Soapy removed saying it's an awkward sentence. True, but that's a lousy reason to remove it. It's the problem in a nutshell. So if you don't like the form, change that instead of removing the info. DirkvdM (talk) 18:47, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
File:Mosquegaza.jpg replacement
[edit]{{editprotected}} Just cleaning up a duplicate file on commons so if someone could change the name of the image File:Mosquegaza.jpg in this article to the image File:Orphanschoolmosque.jpg. Thank you. --Captain-tucker (talk) 09:01, 19 March 2010 (UTC)
