Ruma (Bengali: রুমা) is an upazila of Bandarban District in the Division of Chittagong, Bangladesh.[3]

Geography

Ruma is located at 22°03′00″N 92°25′00″E / 22.0500°N 92.4167°E / 22.0500; 92.4167. It has 5,917 households and a total area of 492.09 km2.[citation needed]

Demographics

According to 2022 census, Ruma is the only Christian majority Upazila of Bangladesh. But, it had Buddhist majority in 2011.

As of the 2022 Bangladeshi census, Ruma upazila had a population of 32,533. The ethnic population was 28,298 (86.98%), of which Marma were 10,097, Mru 7,157, Bom 6,470, Tripura 2,913, Khumi 890, Chakma 305 and Tanchangya 241.[4]

Ruma Upazila is divided into four union parishads: Ghalangya, Paindu, Remakri Pransa, and Ruma. The union parishads are subdivided into 15 mauzas and 225 villages.
