Some Sexy Songs 4 U (stylized as $ome $exy $ongs 4 U or $$$4U) is an upcoming collaborative studio album by Canadian musicians Drake and PartyNextDoor. It is expected to be released through OVO Sound and Sony Music on February 14, 2025.[1][2] The album will serve as a follow-up to their respective studio albums, For All the Dogs (2023) and PartyNextDoor 4 (2024).
Some Sexy Songs 4 U's release proceeded ongoing civil legal action by Drake against Universal Music Group (UMG), the parent company of Republic Records, with whom Drake has a recording contract.[3]
Background and promotion
[edit]On August 2, 2024, Drake made a guest appearance at PartyNextDoor's performance as part of the latter's Sorry I'm Outside Tour at the Budweiser Stage in their hometown of Toronto, Canada, in which announced that a collaborative album between them would be released soon, saying: "On behalf of me and Party, we've been working on something for y'all. So, you get the summer over with, you do what you need to do. I know all you girls are outside. When it gets a little chilly, PartyNextDoor and Drake album will be waiting right there for you".[4][5][6][7][8][9] Three days later, PartyNextDoor revealed in an interview with Vibe that his favorite collaboration with Drake is "the one we doing right now. All 15 of them", seemingly revealing that the album's tracklist will be 15 songs long.[10][11] On August 6, Drake released 100 gigabytes of data including behind-the-scenes clips, tour rehearsals, and studio footage, including three unheard unreleased tracks under an Instagram page by the name "@plottttwistttttt".[12][13] On August 7, video clips surfaced of nightclubs in Canada previewing some unreleased songs that might possibly be on the album.[14] Later that day, Drake reposted a screenshot of a tweet on "@plottttwistttttt" that blurred out the words "album rollout", regarding one of the unheard tracks.[15][16]
On October 5, Drake attended Canadian television broadcaster and entrepreneur Tyrone Edwards' Nostalgia Party in Toronto, in which he called out some "fake friends" in the music industry and cited PartyNextDoor as a "real" friend, also giving an update on the album's impending release: "shoutout to my brother PX, album dropping soon".[17][18] In an appearance on The Fry Yiy Show on SiriusXM that same month, OVO engineer Noel Cadastre said that he was adding the "finishing touches" on the album and called the following month "a jam-packed month for me [to finish engineering it]". On November 5, PartyNextDoor revealed through a livestream on Instagram that he and Drake would finish working on the album after the European leg of his tour ends.[19] On November 24, during a live stream with xQc on Kick, Drake stated the album was "75 percent done" and that he and PartyNextDoor were "cooking right now", adding that "the album sounds incredible... It's the sound people know and love us for".[20] On December 26, during a live stream with Adin Ross on Kick, he stated that the album is one of the records that he's "most proud of in [his] life" and that it was supposed to release in November but was delayed.[21]
On February 3, 2025, Drake and PartyNextDoor revealed the title of the album and its release date with a teaser video.[22][23][24] Six days later, they shared a snippet of a song from the album titled "Crying in Chanel".[25] On February 10, Drake shared a promotional skit for the album, starring Canadian content creators and brothers Jermaine and Trevaunn Richards.[26] He and PartyNextDoor shared the album's cover art the following day.[27]
Artwork
[edit]The artwork for Some Sexy Songs 4 U was revealed days before the album's release through an Instagram post from Drake.[27] It shows Drake and PartyNextDoor standing together in oversized fur coats during a snowstorm, in front of the Absolute World, otherwise known as the "Marilyn Monroe Towers". It is a residential skyscraper complex in Mississauga, PartyNextDoor‘s hometown which is west of Toronto, Drake's hometown.[27][28]
